    • Fortune and Tactic cards: how do they work?

      I’m slightly confused as to how the other sets of cards should work.  Do I have to actually roll a “1” for the good things to happen and then keep going in the card order?  How are the cards’ events activated is what I want to know I guess.  Thank you.

      @Jennifer:

      Most I’ve ever had going at once was 17.  But some of those were near completion, some just starting.

      You’re the man Jennifer, you are the man!  :wink:

    • RE: You have HOW many games going on?

      WG, I actually thought of this thread not because I was playing you and you had X number of games going on, but because I was browsing the “Games in Progress” forum and saw a few names pop up again and again and again.  For example, Jennifer, WG, Sankt, Randmacts, Rmorel, and Mateooo (just to name a few) all have more than 2 games going on, and some are probably still going on but are on pause because of the tourney.  Seeing all those, I wondered, a) how do they do it? b) do they actually succeed in playing so many games; and c) don’t they have a life?  :-P :-P :lol: :wink:  j/j

      Granted WG, your numerous concurrent games being played while playing against me slowed things down somewhat  :-P :lol:  but it’s not reasonable of me to think that someone can actually focus on one game at a time and get more than one round in a night.  :-D  :wink:  Anyway, if you - and anyone for that matter - can play a couple games at the same time and still play well, more power to you.  I, for one though, prefer something physical in terms of the board and things like that.  I also like reading an actual newspaper and not just its online brother.  I guess I’m a hands on kind of guy.

      And who’s to say I plan out the next five turns.  I usually just look at my next country coming up and think about where I can go and what I can do.  Granted, the Axis are surrounded by the Allies in terms of turns and who goes when, which is why plans are always tentative and might have to be changed afterward…or, like the almighty green one said, “always in motion is the (future).”

      And NoMercy, get wireless or something for you comp.  Or get a small table and put your board near the table.  Just a thought…

      Loaf, I think you’re being slightly paranoid.  If you want really unbiased, I’m-no-ones-friend dice, use either the in-house dicey or Frood’s…just don’t use it when playing against him! I kid, I kid.  :lol: :-P You should give either two a chance.  You might be surprised.

      And to answer my own poll, I only do 1 game at a time.  I use the board like others, which, for me, I can see all of what’s going on without having to scroll up, down, left, right.  Just preference really.

      So I see a lot of games being played by one person in the forums at one time and I’m curious to know how many you actually play and how you handle it.

    • RE: I wanna redo

      I don’t think there should be any re-do’s or mulligans.  That’s the beauty of the game, if you get kicked in the butt, you get kicked hard and have to make up for it somehow.  That’s how the good players survive and thrive, but turning defeat into victory and using an unfortunate occurence to go about something a different way.  For me, it has seemed the last few games where the RAF has hit the Baltic and been annhiliated, sometimes with one unit remaining, sometimes not, all while my dest and trans still live! MUahahahaha.

      So forget the redo.  Just suck it up princess, and push on.

    • RE: How much does artillery help?

      Anyone?  I’m just curious as to what you do when faced with the fact you could potentially take Russia - or any other capital/land for that matter.  How much arty do you build up for your assault in comparison with/the ratio to your inf?

    • RE: I'm new, I'm addicted to this game, and I have questions!

      You can only carry one tank in your transport.  An infantryman ALWAYS has to be in your boat along with something else.

    • RE: How much does artillery help?

      So how much art should you have if you want to assault Russia, for example.  Let’s say you have 20 inf.  Should you have 10 art and leave the other 10 as meat shields?  Or should you have slightly more or less?  Because if Russia is just stacked with US and UK men and fighters, you have to do some major hacking and slashing!  :|

      So for Japan, if they are going to assault Moscow, would it be better to have some art along with the stack of inf and arm?  Or should I just have enough inf to screen my large stack of tanks?

      Glad someone knows their directions!  I’d be getting worried if someone referred to the Eastern Front as the Western Front…although if you did do that, you shouldn’t be playing the game!  :evil:  Although I guess as Japan, that “is” their Western Front.

      @squirecam:

      @Imperious:

      Ok here my long winded take on the Channel Dash “gambit” I use gambit in place of another word just to be nice to people who play it.

      Switch is correct. The threat is a failure as well as the channel dash idea is a total unmittigated failure.

      Channel Dash is a total waste.

      That’s funny, since c-sub people have used a fleet build to win FTF tournaments. I would suggest you play with the c-sub build a few times before proclaiming it a total waste.

      And, this goes back to my earlier point. You are trying to create a comprehensive paper for people, when you proclaim strategies are “total failures” and you have never tried it or seen it FTF.

      I do mean this Respectfully IL. I dont think you should be doing this paper without getting some more experience with the strategies which you say wont ever work.

      If we all listened to the naysayers about not being able to do this or that or not being successful, we’d all still be stuck in the damn Industrial Age…or the Dark Ages! Just let the man write the paper.  Even if it is flawed, it would still be an good analysis/dissertation/examination/discussion on this topic.  Yeah, we’ve hashed it out already, but something else might come about from IL’s writings that might provide some useful morsel.  Besides, even if you’re experienced up the quazoo, you don’t need to take it into consideration.  It could help the new people who start playing.  Just like the CSub papers which are very helpful for those starting off and getting going, so too can this possibly be in the same league/category.

    • RE: German buys turn one

      This is a really entertaining thread.  And I’d pay money to see JSP and Squire get it on.  Even if they either did or did not prove their theories, it would still be a decent game of top competitors who are skilled.  So boys, even if you don’t prove your posts, you’d entertain the community with some excellent game play.

    • RE: POLL:favorite player

      It seems everyone likes to play the “bad boys” on the board.  Not that I disagree with that; even when I lose hard I still like playing Germany.  It might just be a small plastic little tank, but honestly, who doesn’t want to control a Panther?  :-D

      Well excuuuuuuse me mister perfect owly owl.  I think your bong’s calling, better go answer it.  And don’t trust me then.  Not like that matters in something like this.  Honestly this thread jumped off the rails from the second and third posts.  So much for actually attempting to figure out a solution for an encounter such as this.

    • RE: A "Sink"ing feeling with an IC in place

      Trust me, you don’t need an IC in India along with a Sink IC to hold Japan.  The one - that’s 1 - IC in Sink held up Japan for the entire game.  Don’t be fooled into believing you need an IIC as well.  Go read our thread in the tourney section.  You’ll see what went down.

    • RE: A "Sink"ing feeling with an IC in place

      Russia wasn’t stacking in the Caucasus, he was slightly stacking in WR, with UK forces slowly coming in from the north through Kar and Arch.  That took a few rounds to build up and then he traded a territory or two before combining his forces and putting the UK stack in WR with the few Russian inf.  I set the UK back by wiping out his entire Royal Navy without losing a single fighter in the process! :mrgreen:        :-D  And he had a BB, dest, and 4 trannies.  I was quite surprised when I didn’t take any hits.  I was more surprised that his BB didn’t get anything either.  :-P So that set him back a round or two, and he even went and strafed my entire stack that took the Caucasus and from there, used his US army coming from the south to strafe more of me and then Russia finished the rest.  My 17th Army Group under General C. U. Later was obliterated!!!  And that was my entire armoured core too, so, that took what little bite I had out of the game.

      And Cobert, if you can get the strat to work, all the more power to you.

      I think he meant he used the UK troops as the fodder to keep Russia out of harm’s way while he shored up the US in Sink.  And I’m not saying trannies rule, I’m saying … well I guess I’m saying they cost almost half as much as an IC and you can use the rest to buy troops and keep getting more and more men into Asia.  And honestly, people on these boards like to take things out of context.  A lot.  You people should go work for the Enquirer or something.  :roll:

      @Cobert:

      I thought about quoting you as saying ‘trannies rule’ and just LOL for a while.

      Oh well, now you know what to do in this situation.

      Sorry about that ‘compliment’.  I thought the Fresh Prince reference would make it slightly more goofy and not scolding.

      Actually, I thought you were being sarcastic when you said honourable mentions go to Japan for not going around.  That’s what I was referring to.  I did start to go around, but kept getting pushed back sometimes.  And yeah, I was laughing when I started reading your Fresh Prince reference.  I knew what you were referring to both in-game and by using the ref.

      @Cobert:

      I agree with evertyhing newpaintbrush said.

      If anything, the loss should be attributed to Germany doing a bad job against russia.  with the amount of infantry going into sinkiang, Hitler should have been chilin out max and relaxin all cool and shootin some b-ball outside of the Kremlin after a few turns. Honorable mention goes to Japan for not going through india or yakut.

      :oops: :roll:Yeah gee thanks for the compliment.  The only thing I will admit is that TC handled Russia quite well against my…somewhat lack of experience against good players.  Yeah, I probably should have planted the German flag in the Caucasus mountains sooner, but I guess I just wasn’t able to “see” a clear path to do so.  Didn’t keep the end in mind, I suppose.

      And NPB, for a pot-smoking owl, you might as well be Yoda in disguise sometimes.  Those were definitely some good points you made.  Yeah, I regretted some of those IC buys when I saw how little men I had on the board that weren’t stuck in China.  Some guys were going north and a few south, but not enough I suppose.  As Japan, I’ve just had bad experiences against others of getting strafed hardcore while in Sink and/or China and losing tons of material while the other guy somehow loses very little.

      Obviously I didn’t read or take into consideration hard enough CSub’s paper on trannies versus ICs.  Guess I now know why trannies can rule.
