She certainly has the court-martial-be-damned moxie of Captain Janeway, who bent the Prime Directive new knots in the Delta Quadrant.

As Harry Plinkett asked during his review of Star Trek Nemesis (seems to age better given the Trek we have now) after an appearance from Admiral Janeway; “shouldn’t she be in a prison?”

I’m probably reading too much into the writers’ intent but Michael’s conflicting personality battle could be reflective of identity politics of today. There are expectations for what people of color should believe in and in some cases how to behave (and how to be perceived) and the same can apply to women. In this case you have a woman of color, who has two layers of identity to navigate through.

I can sort of see where the writers are going with Michael’s dual identities as a parable for today’s society, but we’ve basically spent 50 years with a Vulcan confronting his humanity. Now we have a human who’s too Vulcan?

4/10 seems about right. My buddy hit the nail on the head with a Game of Thrones comparison to the Klingons; in addition to that it just felt like this series already lacks originality.

That said we already caved in and split a subscription to watch the second episode.

Fun read, did anyone ever encounter this monster at a hobby shop or a friend’s collection? If only Berg could have made a Barbarossa game!

Saw is also paired with Cassian on a very useful recruitment action card (you can peek at the top four probe cards and save one for base relocation) and Motti is with Jabba (another useful card ‘Ambitions of Power’ that allows the the Empire to exceed the new hard limit of 8 leaders).

I’ve never encountered the Saw starting card that sacrifices a reputation. I’d try it out but I’m still leery of it. Motti’s card that pairs him with Tarkin significantly slows the first turn down (which can be important for production) but can pay itself off (especially if you get the Ambitions of Power card).

The new tactics cards are a welcome change, and the special abilities for each unit add a lot to theme and strategy. I need more time with the new mission deck but I like the possibility of picking a deck to match a player’s style. My one issue with the new leaders on the Rebel side is they reduce the likelihood of recruiting the classic heroes which takes something away from theme. In the old format you were almost always assured to recruit Luke, Han or Chewie.

Nebulon-B Frigates give Rebel fleets some much needed punch and durability while Golan Turrets make for rugged base defenses.

Unfortunately Interdictors haven’t hit the table yet.

I know what you mean, my box has only been opened once in the last several months, and that was a relatively quick team game introducing it to a new player.

The most welcome addition from the expansion are the new objectives, which should spice up gameplay for both sides (new strategies and opportunities for the Rebels, and less “card counting” from the Empire in predicting the original set of objectives).

Has anyone given the expansion a spin yet? I hope to get a game in this weekend.

      @Gargantua:

      FEAR is no excuse!

Table top simulator can also be used; and games can be played live.

As for crushing dice over the internet, let me expand upon that concept - BEHOLD!

Roger’s glance up after seeing the pulverized dice is fantastic.

Why are are talking about fair responses? What is this, a Congressional hearing? Will my post be stricken from the record? Lighten up! Regardless of vagabond status the Raiders will be a playoff contender this year.

Besides, I agree with all the points you’ve mentioned about Las Vegas, hence why I still believe there’s a chance this move could become an enormous flop.

I’m sure there is an onerous exit clause in their agreement with Las Vegas but I just don’t see professional football succeeding in that market.

Besides, didn’t St. Louis build the Rams a shiny new dome as part of enticing them to leave LA? If you build it, they will come. But they will not necessarily stay. Amend my post to 20 years, since that’s roughly how long the Rams played in St. Louis.

    • RE: How do you get juiced up for an A&A game?

I voted Natty Ice since Miller Lite is my preferred beer for board game sessions. All about the cheap, extended buzz, and it beats its main rivals Bud Light and Coors Light (despite the fact Miller and Coors are now under one roof).

Now if I’m just shooting the breeze with friends then I will opt for more credible beer.

One last thing I’ll add to the Dunkirk discussion is yet another fantastic score from Hans Zimmer. What’s great about the Nolan-Zimmer partnership is Nolan will give Zimmer a few concepts (abstract or specific) as a springboard and Zimmer will run from there using his mastery of synth and sounds. In this case, Nolan’s directive of using Lord Elgar’s “Nimrod” was executed perfectly building up to the climax , and the amplification of a pocket watch was the perfect source of tension throughout. Definitely deserving of a Best Score nomination among others. Cinematography should be a slam dunk,

Not spoiling anything but I liked Kenneth Branagh telling James D’Arcy “it’s a good thing for the Army the Navy is here.”

No Sean Connery but I’m glad Christopher Nolan found a role for usual contributor Michael Caine, even if it wasn’t on-screen.
