RE: Greatest Star Wars Movieposted in General Discussion
All the EU written before the sale to Disney is now considered “Legends” and has been replaced by officially sanctioned material. This timeline sums up all the novels written to date:

The gist is after signing an armistice with the Empire (not surrender accords), the New Republic for some reason demilitarizes while the Imperial remnants are re-branded as the First Order mysteriously finds the resources (with a severely reduced tax base, to be sure) to build Starkiller Base as well as to buy tons of new Star Destroyers and TIEs from those dastardly defense contractors who love to gamble (perhaps the New Republic should’ve played ball with them, too). Leia forms the Resistance as a paramilitary organization to counter this threat, but it’s apparent the most she could scrounge were a few Mon Calamari cruisers and some support ships.

If Teddy Roosevelt’s wimpy son weren’t hospitalized after a Harvard game then he may have never started the commission to make rugby safer.

RE: Greatest Star Wars Movieposted in General Discussion
There were SOME decent elements to it like the vast improvements to the characters of Kylo Ren and Rey but the many subplots that went nowhere were terrible, as well as odd tonal shifts. This was the first SW movie that felt tedious to me.

RE: Greatest Star Wars Movieposted in General Discussion
Pretty easy:
1. Empire Strikes Back - can’t add anything that hasn’t been said ad nauseam: one example is that it has the best score.
2. A New Hope - the greatest “tentpole” film of all time.
3. Return of the Jedi - I’m in the minority on this but I love the first act on Tatooine. I just wish Lucas stuck to the original plan of having Luke look for his actual sister and build up to a final confrontation with the Emperor later on. Maybe three more movies would’ve been too much but I feel too much was crammed into the end. Bringing back the Death Star also set a precedent that’s been abused in subsequent films. -

A 31-team league is weird, they have to go 32 to balance it out so it seems like it will be an expansion team that will benefit from a pretty sympathetic expansion draft process. I’m surprised Paul Allen (Microsoft big) doesn’t have his hands on this since he owns the Seahawks and Sounders (MLS).
Just too bad Quebec is shut out, the Puddy Tats in Sunrise, FL need to be put out of their misery and just move north.

The poor snakebit Sharks don’t even get a mention!

I’m not saying you should be bound to geographic proximity but it should be a factor.

RE: Possible NHL Expansionsposted in General Discussion
Ugh, expansion? The league needs to shrink, not grow!
Before we talk about the likes of Quebec and Seattle (both worthy markets) we need to axe Florida, Carolina and of course, the ultimate basket case, the woebegone
Phoenix, er Arizona franchise. -

You get a good feel for all the colonial names: Ceylon, Formosa, Rhodesia and of course Siam:

RE: Russian Fighter Sculpts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
That’s another thing, how much fun can it be playing as two countries that get squashed and cornered/squashed by Germany? I would pair France with UK since the latter goes last among the Big Three Allies.

RE: Russian Fighter Sculpts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
A unique destroyer and fighter sculpt for France would be nice since those are typically the only two units that survive after the first turn besides infantry. What I don’t get is why they used USSR sculpts as a base. In the event France is liberated and becomes relevant late-game, it’s perfectly logical they’d use UK and US equipment.

If I could only make one change to the game I’d add artillery. It’s easy enough to implement and is still simple enough for new players to grasp combined arms. Plus it gives German and Russian player some options when they have 7 IPC or more.

I hated the dialogue and tone from the Discovery crew, while I’m sure we are meant not to like them at first not every characterization has to be so heavy-handed. Only way I can watch this show is to root for the Klingons so there are no loose ends:
“Prayer, Mr. Saavik, the Klingons don’t take prisoners.”
