    • Is anyone alive at Avalon Hill?

The company’s website has still not acknowledged the new game is currently on the market.  It’s still “Upcoming!”

    • RE: Concise list of Changed Rules?

If you have a destroyer on the battle board, your planes can hit enemy subs.  As soon as the destroyer is destroyed, the subs will submerge.

The new sub rules make for more fluid motion across the oceans, which make sense.  Even an armada is just a blip in the vast Pacific.

The ‘hidden movement’ special rule in Guadalcanal demonstrates this well.

Do defending submarines fire a “surprise strike” if enemy warships (surface and/or subs) enter the seazone and choose not to ignore them?  (of course, destroyers negate this special ability).

For instand, a battleship and cruiser enter a seazone that contains an enemy sub.  The battleship and cruiser wish to attack the sub instead of ignoring it.  Does the defending sub fire first?

You can move as many Allied units into China as you’d like.

You may not purchase American units and place them anywhere in China during Mobilization.  You may fly bombers and fighters over the Pacific and land them in China. But remember, American combat units move and conduct combat independently of Chinese infantry.

Also, America may not place an industrial complex in China because those territories are controlled by China, not America.

Chinese units are prohibited from leaving China.  The rules on China make clear which territories Chinese units can enter and control.

    • RE: Anniversary Edition already Obsolete/Superceded?

Obsolete?  I got Anniversary Edition yesterday and it looks like the best edition yet.  And Guadalcanal and Bulge were also excellent.  The game has enough complexity without being burdened by too many rules.

There is no way to make a boardgame reflect “real war.”  In WWII, nations didn’t take turns attacking or roll dice to decide how many infantry are killed before any tanks could be touched before any planes could be destroyed (a reason why the random hit scoring systems from the previous editions were so nice).

      It’s a game, enjoy it!

The rule book states tanks cannot blitz through a territory with an AA gun or IC, doesn’t it? Top of page 16.

      A second clarification, please.

May unescorted transports enter a seazone that contains only enemy submarines and ignore them in order to perform an amphibious assault?

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      Clarification needed.

When a destroyer is present, a submarine loses its unique capabilities regarding movement, submerging, and “surprise strike.”  If all enemy destroyers are destroyed during the course of a combat, do submarines regain their capabilities during that combat?  It would appear that they do, in the area of submerging against aircraft.

Secondly, do submarines perform “surprise strike” at the start of every round of combat or just the first round of combat?  (Again, if enemy destroyers are present, there is no “suprise strike.”)

You have to understand, newbie, that most of the vapid individuals who post messages on this board don’t have real lives.  So they sit around and dream up house rules, paint their little plastic men, type wholly indecipherable posts replete with spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, post a-historical and factually bankrupt nonsense, and boast that they bought not one, not two, not three, not four, but five copies of the game!

    • RE: Atomic Bomb

      Helllo???

Take your research and put it in the toilet.  Then read a history of what those bombs did to the cities they fell on, and tell me that you would throw just 21 dice at medium range.

      Research.  I laugh at you.

And the “A-Bomb” unit wasn’t meant to be anything more than a joke.

    • RE: German Sniper

      From Avalon Hill FAQ

      Wehrmacht Expert Sniper says,
“Crack Shot — This unit gets +1 on each attack die.
Superior Camouflage — While this unit has cover, enemy units can’t attack this unit at medium or long range.
Headshot — Once per game, instead of attacking a Vehicle, you may roll six attack dice. If you roll three or more successes, put a face-up Disrupted counter on that Vehicle. This counter isn’t removed at the beginning of the next casualty phase.”

Q: Does the Crack Shot ability apply to Headshot?
A: Yes. The Crack Shot ability modifies attack dice, so the Wehrmacht Expert Sniper rolls successes on a 3 or higher.

Q: Does “have cover” mean that the Sniper has to succeed at a cover roll to get the Superior Camouflage ability?
A: No. A unit “has cover” just by being in hex filled with defensive terrain. This means that a Sniper with Superior Camouflage can’t be attacked directly at medium or long range while it’s in a forest, hill, marsh, or town hex.

The Avalon Hill website has the answer in the FAQ.

    • RE: Damage question

      Damage is permament.

During the casualty phase, you flip up all new counters.  Vehicles with two damage counters are then removed.  One damage counter was from a previous turn, the second from the current turn.

    • RE: Initial Placement Question - Jeep

You can place the unit on the Jeep or under the Jeep.  If you place it under the Jeep, roll one die.  If you roll a 6, the unit is “Run Over” and removed from play.  Just kidding.

    • RE: German Sniper

If Wizards clarified it that way to you, then it is settled.  But check out this from the Avalon Hill Homepage re: not removing face up disrupted counters on the T-26 tank.  It can be found under the FAQ for miniatures.

      T-26 Series 1933 says,
“Unreliable — Face-up Disrupted counters aren’t removed from this unit at the beginning of the casualty phase.”

Q: When can you remove Disrupted counters from a T-26?
A: Unless you control another unit with an ability that can remove Disrupted counters, you won’t be able to remove Disrupted counters from a disrupted T-26.

My question is… Why one and not the other?

    • Sherman "Easy Eight" Tank

The Easy Eight’s stat card has the special ability of armor piercing rounds.

The player must announce before he throws the attack dice if he will use these rounds.  I assume that means after your opponent rolls for cover.

If not, what if your opponent makes cover, limiting attack to disruption.  Then you roll attack dice and score enough hits to destroy the unit, using armor piercing rounds?

Any one deal with this conflict yet?
