    • RE: Question about Western US Convoy Raid

      @democratic:

I REALLY HATE THIS RULE OF THE US BEEN WORTH NOTHING TO ANYONE BECAUE OF IT BEEN A NO.

I know you don’t want to hear it… but think about it logically…

      1.  In 1940 the US agriculturally and industrially was largely self sufficient.  It wasn’t like Japan or German or Britain in needing large amounts of raw materials imported.  Convoy blockades would not cripple our economy.  Therefore it makes no sense for that to be possible in the game.

      2.  You’re complaining that “12” is “nothing”?  That’s exactly equal to the value of the Eastern US in the original A&A and it’s completely in scope with the rest of the territory IPC values on the board.

      3.  The Additional “40” essentially accounts for production from roughly 5 US territories not represented on the map.  Those 5 being, Midwestern US, Eastern US, Mexico, Cuba, and Brazil.  Conquering the Western US should not net you additional IPCs for territory you did not and cannot take in the game.

      4.  Conquering the US is always a b****.  In every other A&A I’ve played - Original, revised, A&A50 and A&A1942.  Taking it wasn’t really ever a “game winner” because it was usually not worth the focus and effort required when you could knock out other, easier to get to targets.  The US always plays the long distance support role.  So I don’t see why there is surprise or frustration that the formula wasn’t changed for PAC 1940?

      5.  If you hate that rule, that’s what house rules are for.  I severely doubt that should you deviate from the standard game ruleset, there’s a secret tracking beacon located in the board that activates and causes Larry and a crack squad of ninjas, or the midget clown commando squad to show up at your house and try to take you out.

    • RE: My Piece Compartments Solution

      @Brain:

      How about some pictures?

      Why certainly!

A picture of -from left to right- my Axis AA Gun, Allied AA Gun, Major IC, and Minor IC.  You’ll see that the Minor IC has had the 2nd smokestack lopped off at an angle to match the contour of the roof, and then been painted to match the rest of the building and roof.  Came out quite well I think.

Major IC has fire engine red sides, a black roof, and silver stacks.  Minor IC has dark red “wine” colored sides, brown roof, and black stack.

Another picture of my currently painted pieces.

This is my standard box.  The only compartments that were modified in each were the infantry, battleships, and carriers which were doubled in size by removing 1 adjacent compartment partition.

This is my China & General Box, which you can see is modified slightly differently to accommodate my Major and Minor ICs.  I’ll also have room for the custom Naval Base and Airfield tokens arriving from LITKO soon.

Here’s all my boxes filled and stacked.  Boy I have a lot of painting to do!

This is the brand and only packaging (other than clear plastic) for the boxes I bought so you can find the exact ones I got.  Again, I got them from Michaels, they were $2.99 apiece.

    • RE: My Piece Compartments Solution

      That’s a nice job.

In the end though, since I’m stripping my A&A 1942 Ed. for extra pieces anyways and I need more room, I went with 5 plastic “bead sorting boxes” from Michaels (craft store) at $2.99 apiece.  The only modification they required was that 3 of the 25 compartments have walls removed via exacto knife so that they fit my infantry, carriers, and battleships.

I figure I’ll pick up four more when they have a sale and we’re close to the Europe A&A 1940 release and I can get between 25% and 40% off.

    • RE: Hate the cardboard factory/airfield/naval base counters? ANSWER INSIDE!

Well folks, glad they’re such a hit.

Now that we know they can do custom colors maybe I’ll order some custom ones too so that axis and allied bases use separate tokens.

      Q:  How big is 19mms?

A:  Take 2 Industrial Complexes from any ealier edition of A&A.  Put them next to each other to make a square.  Voila! - not exact but very close.

      Q:  Is that too big?

A:  Well it’s totally your call, but imho….for an OLD style board, definitely!  Especially something as small as A&A 1942.  But I think because this new board for A&A 40 PAC is so much bigger that it’s ok, and remember these markers are flat so you could stack them under an AA Gun or an Industrial Complex (or both) to save space and still see the color of the edge to know what they are!

Just my 2 cents on the size issue.

Well shoot - if they can do alternate colors…

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I already ordered!   :x

^ Figured I’d better get the order in before you guys came along and bought them out :P

Despite the possibility of missing out on cooler colored markers, If I can figure out how to give you a +1 for giving that extra effort I’l do that…
Nope I have no clue how to give you karma.

    • Hate the cardboard factory/airfield/naval base counters? ANSWER INSIDE!

Since I like to paint my A&A set, I decided that the cardboard naval base and airbase counters had to go. -  Fortunately I have enough extra factories from earier sets to modify some into new “Minor” complexes, and the AA gun model hasn’t changed since forever…

Anyway - found this place for some upgrades!  And figured some of you might be interested :)

Note: you have to scroll down the page a little bit

Not only could you use the specific Naval Base counter, you could just use the black anchors they sell too.
