      Well it depends.

      Usually, I would say on Average, if you haven’t reached “stable” relative parity by round 7… you’re in trouble.

      You should be reaching for it around round 5, holding it by round 6, and trying to keep it round 7 and onwards.

      Then it’s all about a SLOW push into Russia with the Germans,  Keeping the DEI with Japan, blitzing off China, draining Russia, and survivng America,  and trying to split the Americ an Income into both theatres.

      You can make $20 LESS than the allies a turn, and it’s not a big deal, IF the allies have a sense of urgency, and are giving up transports, to take territories, and try and mess with you as quickly as possible.

      THE GREATEST THREAT to the Axis Economic parity game, is the loss of the mediterranean,  via Gibraltar, Morocco, etc, etc.  Make sure you have a plan in place, to cock block the yanks, and brits, and cause as many problems as possible.

      @Clyde85:

      @Cmdr:

      You’d have to be prepared for Italy to take Spain on the same round true.

      What is Italy going to be using to take Spain with? In this speculative scenario, isnt the ENTIRE Italian fleet, and perhapse a part of their airforce, destroyed?

      Clearly not if they stack a few troops in Sfr before attackin Spain…
      But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s probably a bad idea to allow US to land troops there every subsequent round.

      Guilt or innocence is a hard thing to quantify, so im not even going to touch that part of it, but on the waging a war of aggression, I can comment.

      I dont think it is a crime to wage a war of aggresion, atleast not one they should hang you for. It is said that when a country wages it is only justified in doing so in defense of itself. How do you quantify something like that though? Japan felt that the US was threating it, threating to cut it off from needed raw materials and strangle their country.
      Japan felt that they were acting in defense of themselves by attacking the US and the allies, were they wrong?

      Jodl was a career solider, raising in the ranks and working his way to the top. He was no different from the 1,000s of other men who did the same thing, spent their life in the military, and did what they were ordered to do. In a totalitarian state like Nazi Germany one man and his cloest cronied have total control on everything the state does. Jodl wasnt one of them, and he had very limited control over what the German armies did or where they went, that rested with Hitler and his thugs. Hitler told Jodl what he wanted done, and Jodl was left to figure out how to go about it. To have expected him to disobey Hitlers would have been expecting him to commit suicide.

      Sometimes with Anti-Air Guns its all about luck. 3 weeks ago I had just that I rolled 6 out of 6 ones and changed the course of the war and the look on Adolph’s face
        I think all of the opening moves are going to be available it will just be a matter of how well you can carry out your plan to make all of the next moves possible to reach your goal
        I think it will be a little more challenging

      I won’t go into too much detail; this thread is about saving G1 money

      Which in turn the short answer pretty much nothing; I don’t think it makes Germany react to Russia or UK as suggested by a lot of people during this thread; I think it just means you wait 1 more turn to see what Germany will do; nothing more nothing less.

      It can create risk on the small off-chance depending on what your G1 attacks are and how poorly they go but that’s the dice.

      Gargantua,

      This tactic does sound like it can hurt the Russians.  I have been able to sack Moscow as Germany in the games I played but it is very hard and I don’t always succeed.  There have been other games where I died in the Russian Winter.

      I don’t think I could use the Italian aircraft against the opponent I play because he is usually pretty adamnent about reducing Italy to next to nothing before he strikes anything else.  On UK1 he sinks half of my Italian fleet.  Which hurts a lot but the main problem is the US fleet he pulls out of the Pacific and sends into the Med along with some subs and transports to end Italy’s war efforts in Africa.  Meanwhile he flys fighters to Hawaii and transports Infantry there.  It would still be possible to take out Hawaii as Japan but would take a lot of resources for very little economic gain.

      I have countered by trying to win the game as Japan and I have killed India J3 with the purchase of the Hainan Naval base.  Yet even then by the time I set my sights on the last victory city Italy has been stomped to irrelevant and the US is back in the Pacific.

      I think the only time anything can retreat separately is with an amphibious invasion.

      If you only have attacking subs and planes, the subs could submerge (assuming no enemy destroyer) but the planes would have to wait one round before retreating.

      @Variable:

      Is this because the German transports are considered part of the attack (amphibious assault)?

      Yes.  Transports that unload for an amphibious assault do so in the Combat movement phase (ending their movement for that turn), and so they are considered part of the combat force.

      It depends on whether you’re talking about OOB or Alpha.  In OOB, kamikaze may be used if the ships end their combat movement in a kamikaze zone, whether or not there is a battle.  In Alpha, kamikaze are triggered by combat, not combat movement, so the ships must actually fight in a kamikaze zone (or launch an amphibious assault from it) in order to be targeted.

      A “game turn”  is a “round”

      a “player turn” is a countries “move” in a “round”

      Like when asking, what inning, period, or quarter is it?  A friend might ask you, what “round” or “turn/game turn” is it?

      Thank you for the clarifications gentleman.

      Turtledove’s World War could be a very good mod for G40, but it has the problem that one of the main alien landing groups starts at Poland (and holds the whole war as alien). That would totally mess any type of A&A mechanics, unless that you go ‘ahistorical’, give a token force for the Race at Poland and the focus at alien strongholds at southern hemisphere.

      The alien invasion of US would be challenging for a modder, because you would have to mod USA’s territories. A mod best suit for AABattlemap or TripleA, but not for real board

      Any case, it would need a VPs system to allow individual victories. And plenty of nukes. Also, different units and costs for Race and humans, with Race being uber-units but costly, and humans being crappy units but horribly cheap

      For alien invasions in WWII, not only Turtledove, but also Hearts of Iron series and mods include some alien cheats or scenarios

      @Gargantua:

      Imagine if, even just a handful of territories, were wormholes to other zones on the board,  Say, Sz112 connected to Sz64.  For example.

      Wormholes … Quark could appear and start doing trades with ferengi’s capitalist brothers at USA. But some ferengii with crappy translating could also appear and create various diplomatic mess (we suffered a lot from them here in Spain with Spanish-American  :? versions of DS9)  :lol:

      And put an eye on those brave bajoran freedom-fighters … they could help french or polish resistance :wink:

      I see not even you are willing to look into the quagmire of that thread, to extract an answer.

      You also need to understand completely, that the FAQ changes like underwear, one minute it’s this way, the next minute it’s alpha this, beta that.

      The latest inclination is that an UNPROVOKED attack on the U.K. / DEI brings the U.S>A. into the war.  Mantlefan is right.

      Before I believe it was just a declaration of war that would suffice.

      @Gargantua:

      SO what if I start in a zone, that someone just built a ship in?  My transport Cannot load?

      That’s correct, unless you declare war on that power in the same turn.

      @Gargantua:

      Also, can transports leave a zone where they started with a hostile ship, and then come back with loaded units from another zone? That would seem legal to me.

      Yes.
