      Interesting story, thanks for sharing it. It’s remarkable that this apparently happened after the war was over, but the overall idea would be pretty much in line with Japanese politics in countries they occupied. Japan tried to portray itself as a liberator, driving the Western colonial powers out of Asia, and promoting nationalism as far as it suited their needs. However, the indigenous population of those countries soon discovered that they were definitely not better off being ruled by Japan.

      There’s a parallel with what happened in Indonesia, where Japan supported nationalistic movements to some degree, although that happened during the occupation years. Indonesian nationalism had been firmly established by the time Japan was defeated, and the four years that followed saw a very bloody decolonization war when the Dutch tried to re-establish their authority by sending a large army.

      One went off at auction today for like $250 shipped.  The copy looked decent for being used.  Thats the lowest I’ve seen a used copy go for at auction this year.

      Each power with a capital gets to place 1 piece of Infrastruture on the board each turn FOR FREE.

      Whether that is railroads/centers, sea mines, land mines, fortifications, or otherwise, it’s at each power’s discretion. (Maybe nothing more than 8IPC value?)

      For every 20 IPC’s made after that (Not capture), Said power gets an additional piece to place each turn for FREE.

      The reason it’s for free, is quite simply, that alot of these infrastructure pieces might not see regular integration, unless you’re just going to get them anyways. It represents some of the more civilian input into the war effort.

      If you couple this, with a map overlay, of where infrastructure should already be historically,  and with the Scars of War/Battle Damage package.  This could make things incredibly interesting.

      Perhaps you could also choose to REPAIR damaged infrastructe (Not factories) during the purchase phase, instead of placing one of your new ones.

      Well one time when I was 18 I had broken my leg so I had a cast from my ankle to half way up my thigh.  My buddy was riding me double on his bicycle downhill on Niagara St.  We past a cruiser who pulled a U-turn.  My bud was nimble on the bike and by the time the cruiser had down his 180, my friend road us between Time Square and the canal in the rear parking lot.  We squeezed between two buildings, left the bike in tall grass and the cruiser slowly drove past us, missed us hiding in debris and left us alone.  Not bad on one leg if I do say so myself!  Riding double on a bicycle with a broken leg…not sure why we were so scared of the heat!  Oh yeah, no headlight on the bicycle…

      @Vance:

      Hitler’s party number was 555.  The number of the BEAST!  :evil:

      The number of the beast is 666. Or 616, according to some.

      From the Book of Revelation:

      I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke like a dragon. 13:12 He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence. He makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. 13:13 He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of the sky to the earth in the sight of people. 13:14 He deceives my own people who dwell on the earth because of the signs he was granted to do in front of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who had the sword wound and lived. 13:15 It was given to him to give breath to it, to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as wouldn’t worship the image of the beast to be killed. 13:16 He causes all, the small and the great, the rich and the poor, and the free and the slave, to be given marks on their right hands, or on their foreheads; 13:17 and that no one would be able to buy or to sell, unless he has that mark, the name of the beast or the number of his name. 13:18 Here is wisdom. He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is six hundred sixty-six.

      While I guess they fall in the Classical genre (because Williams actually gets entered into the top 100 with the March of the Empire), I don’t know if this was the initial intent….

      But if you had to add people to the list of current composers (besides the correctly mentioned three of Williams, Horner, and Goldsmith), I think Bear McCreary, Hans Zimmer, and Clint Mansell are worthy canidates to be looked at…I guess the first 3 would be one generation and then the second three would be the next generation of worthy composers.

      Besides, if you want to dork it out, would you be referring to just the classical era, cause (while there was an overlap), Beethoven and Tchichovsky are in the Romantic era, and would then be ineligible.

      Is this still happening? Right now I’m only deleting accounts that never login and ones that have never posted within the past 90 days.

      All they have to do is post once to introduce themselves and all is good.

      @Veqryn:

      I’ve heard that lots of people try to create new accounts, and that they are deleted for being suspected of “spam” or “bots”.

      I’ve noticed lots of people complaining that they can’t seem to make accounts here.  And that is only the ones who able to find a way to complain.  I would think that 99% of people who’s first account is deleted, just don’t come back at all.

      Perhaps using better captchas and giving players the benefit of the doubt by allowing all new accounts, would help increase the user base?

      (i also agree about signatures, I don’t like them most of the time)

      @LHoffman:

      Now that you mention it… there is a striking resemblence that I have never noticed before.

      It’s no coincidence.  Lucas used all kinds of sources for his designs.  If for example you watch the scenes in the movie The Enemy Below in which the crew of the American destroyer have gone to action stations, you’ll note some of them wearing historically accurate oversized helmets that look exactly like the ones worn by some of the Death Star technicians in Star Wars.

      @WILD:

      Wow this thread was cool to revive. Haven’t heard from many of those guys much as of late, but they have some great insight for the allies.

      Garg’s point was for the allies to win, they first must not loose. Keeping in mind that Cow was part of the conversation, and is one of the best Japanese players (that thrives on early Japanese attacks). Garg’s point of stacking Anz early and def Hawaii so the Japanese can’t steal a win on the Pac side is directly linked to very good Japanese play. It is also noted that the Anz needs to build some navy and air to help the US, but their main goal is to not loose Sidney.

      There is also some good advice about how to use Egypt to supply air to Moscow to prop it up (building an IC & AB as early as plausible), while also building up Egypt to be a last resort defensive stand if Moscow falls. I also like that Q mentioned evacuating India as an option to turtlng and losing all your units. I have evacuated India in the past and traded it to stall the Japanese (they can’t land air on it, so it could be a good chance to kill Japanese ground units). This is a little painful because of the stupid capture capital/plunder rule that should be a one time only IMO (house rule). Those India units can really help in Egypt or Russia if they are alive, and is doable if the Anz and Hawaii aren’t weak, or are shielded. Plus once the Japanese take India they need to decide if they immediately head to the 6th VC for the win (Sidney or Hawaii), or possibly make a move on the Mid East, Egypt, Africa, or north to Russia (maybe linking up with more Japanese units pounding through China).

      I agree with all this, generally speaking. Japan can take any one power at the time. The only way to slow down Japan is for all nations to cause Japan to enter attritive battles. E.g., put Japan in a position where they have juicy targets to hit (with something to compensate you for it, like time, loss of position or gain on another front), but too many of them to address.
