    • RE: Can artillery sink a sub ?

Not Sure about Subs getting sunk by Artillery… But I remember in Vietnam, at the Battle of Khe Sanh,  There were major problems with getting in any kind of air support.

The American Base at Khe Sanh was being so heavily shelled by Artillery,  that incoming aircraft were almost garunteed to be struck down by regular artillery shells.

Let’s not forget that Artillery is very versatile, and that a common combat theme in WWII (which still applies today) was to be creative.  Sometimes you just use what you gotta use to get the job done.

    • RE: Malmedy Massacre Memorial

An interesting fact about the Malemdy Massacre, is that it back fired on the Germans.

Survivors were able to relay messages that the Germans were executing prisoners,  This changed the American demeanour and spirit from one of “defeat/surrender/retreat” to one of “if you’re going to die, die standing up”.

In any war, you don’t want to put your opponents back to the wall, his life at risk.  You want him to surrender, and take the “easy” path, where he can go on being worriless and cared for in a POW camp, that has far better luxuries then he is currently accomodated with.

I mean, why do you think Saddam could never really get his troops to fight Americans on a large scale in Iraq? In either Gulf War?  Because American POW treatment is the BEST!

    • RE: UK Basics

Just going to throw this out there,

Good positioning I like on B1,  is to send a fgt after the Transport,  Land it in Buritya if it survives, and as long as the Russians have committed there.  Put your Bomber in Novisibirsk or Yakut, and Hopefully your Sub survives 1 round against the japs.  Depending on what you do with that DST Carrier and transport, (which you could just keep alive) you have a bit of a surprise attack against the weak parts of the Japanese navy, and anything they build in Tokyo.  In the least you’ve brought your bomber into play against undefended complex’s if they’ve built any.

This can keep Japan down for an extra round, and force their navy to play conservatively.  Most often they are atleast going to have a peel a destroyer to defend a transport build, that’s even if they notice.  And you can still strafe with an American fighter as well.

In a KJF this force can be used to destroy a minor Japanese fleet.

    • RE: German Basics

I would never, ever, use this strategy again.  But in this game, against competent opponents, it did work.

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=10548.0

A german battleship on G1 with a transport.

I’m not so sure it was superior german tactics or anything, as much as it was the Allies not quite thinking through exactly what the best options would be.

Near the end of the game I explain my lapse in judgement with good reason, and I have used the same theories for Japan to defeat KJF and so far it has worked 100% of the time.

I like the theory of German navy, Probably the best build for buck is 2 trannies in the baltic, and then use your BB and tranny to invade gibraltar.  4 Transports, 4 or 5 Fighters, and a bomber, can then hit England.

However the Best german naval strategy lies in the possibility of finding a way to afford a Complex in WE on G1.  That way any future naval maneuvers are not restricted by your inability to move your navy then build into it.

I have a few more games and theories I can post as examples if anyone cares?
