    • RE: A Bid For Allies

      The game is totally balanced.

      Only play style/strategies are unbalanced.

I would only allow bids in AA50 for newer/unfamiliar disadvantaged players, to make them more formiddable opponents. And to keep things fun and exciting, so they feel the desire to play again.

Lol, Wild Bill, using your kid as target practice and then seemingly mocking his fruitless efforts on the AA boards, is something even I wouldn’t stoop as low as to do!!!

      Lolololol

My last game, 1941 Tech Tourny, my opponent resigned after first two battles.  losing to the bat in sz2 and losing egy.

I never even got to move a piece! :(

    • RE: Axis vs. Allies Records (League and Tournament - 137 games) - updated 7/12

The point is that randomness is assumed here… I am just as often allies as I am axis and it makes no difference.

that being said I think the game sides are equal. The stats show that.

Any decent A&A player wont care what side he plays.

If you ate truelly concerned about the skill issue, just review the tournies from R3 to the finish.  every player from that point knows how to play the game.

    • RE: Open letter to Larry Harris: Feedback on your excellent creation

Ya pulling 15 and then 9+ ipcs away a turn from UK, and russian units off the eastern front to India to be exposed to the entirity of the Japanese Juggernaut is a BAD plan of action.

that Sz35 fleet should NEVER survive, barring extreme luck, beating 2 fgt’s.  and YUN should also NEVER survive any good J1 strategy.  Other locations on J1 are negotiable to the success of those battles, barring the bat in Sz 53 that must also be destroyed.

The only time and India complex is viable is if, J1 is Horribly botched, or you are playing against a Japanese opponenf, who is VERY new, or VERY inept.

    • RE: How long does a game of AA50 take?

Beginners take TWICE as long as Experts.

NO’s makes the game FASTER because these IPC’s usually allow whoever is winning to continue winning, and get the job done faster.

If you want to improve your game time, make people BUY before thier turn, so Purchases are ready, and time thier moves,  3 min Combat Moves, 3 min Non combat, or 5 min, or whatever.

Allow dice rolling to go as per needed.  Cut distracting chatter down.

If you can 6 turns in within an hour, you’re doing good,  that will get you in 4 or 5 hours, quite close to a game completion.

Also keep in mind that the Opening moves are often much longer then subsequent turns.  So it should speed up as it goes along.

Load the art in AUS, go to NZE or SOL, or sz41, find holes in jap defense to take CAR or whatever. to get NO, and force japan to take one of thier own islands back,  cover this island off with American air power.  so even if they take it back, you attavk thier ships the following turn

    • Did Anyone else notice Yet?

I dload’d the PDF of the map

Finland Nwy, although Seperate, now is adjacted to Eastern Europe?!?!?  Take a look at the pics :S

Where the Baltic States from AA50 Should be, is this unassigned bulk of land, one can only be led to assume in Finland Norway??!?!

WTF is that all about?  And I wonder how well that will Pan out… I can blitz Tanks from Germany to Fin/Nwy every turn, with no navy required?  And WTF, Eastern Europe isn’t even Adjacent to Karelia!  I better stop here, or I’ll be Posting stuff all night!

All my years of Scheming Naval plans to do everything to defend that 2-5 IPC’s in Finland Norway has all been for not in this game!

Yes, it’s alright, but I find it drags the game out a bit needlessly.

Not many people build IND’s  or can afford to.  And then to watch them burn… sucks :S

Infantry, Artillery, and AA Guns just take 1 movement point to do the same!  Where does that Other Movement point just VANISH to!?!?!

    • RE: A completely different kind of strategy

The Game of Axis and Allies is about making a mathematical machine of probabilities that beats someone elses.  That includes the territories you take, the positions your units are in, the options they have, and the IPC’s you are making.

This game IS about the Economics.

Excellent post Umrmeche, combine this type of play, with a General focus of making sure you are constantly giving oppurtunites to take advantage of your opponents and the mistakes they make, and you’ve got a winning strategy 80% of the time :P

You have to remember, lots of People give up before their capital ever falls, and the logisitics of making that happen anyways, are mostly bent on the Economics of the Situation.

Consider this thinking when you are buying your units too.

    • RE: Brazilian IC

BRZ complex only has one purpose.  To control Africa.

If G1 and I1 are REALLY good. Britian is hammered and there are tanks free to blitz Africa, a BRZ complex is a good idea.

Outside of that… shucking units though ECA with a fleet in Sz12 to ALG is a superior option (As long as you have control of the rest of the continent)

“Of note”: A BRZ complex in AA-Revised is the golden nie/unbeatable Allied strategy. Combined with close monitoring of aircraft placement and maximization of units on the board.  Because Control of Africa, means Control of enough IPC’s to constantly have more per turn than the Axis.

    • RE: Gibraltar

IF you are determined not to take EGY on G1, atleast land troops in LIB on G2.

This forces Britain to have to retreat, because you have six units, + whatever else you can pick up with your survivng transport, which is protected by the Italian Fleet.

      You might aswell skip GIB.

However, if you are determined to take GIB, spread out your Sz5 fleet.  So that your 2 trn’s and 1 crs are all in different zones.  This makes it harder for britian to kill the cruiser.

      Hope that helps.

(PS if you are going to use your bmb to kill things, send 1 sub to Sz9 against the destroyer, it’s 50/50 and if you win that and Sz2, UK has no transports to land units with, this is a VERY big advantage for the Axis turn 1.)
