      RUSSIA IS IN EVEN WORSE STRAITS AGAINST GERMANY IN THE 1942 SETUP THAN IN 1941!!!  How in HELL do you expect Russia to survive an all sub R1 buy if there’s no more land units forthcoming?  You have Ger units in range of the capital from two nearby zones and they are also an ace away from grabbing not 1 but BOTH of their 3rd NO territories!

      The fundamental flaw in your strategy is that the med fleet is OPTIONAL for Italy… It can be simply a DISTRACTION for the Allies to waste IPCs on, and gain little to no income in North Africa while the Axis finish off Russia between Italy and Germany.

      German units in range are not a problem at all, actually.  Russia can easily pound Belorussia and East Ukraine with starting units and would not need to purchase any land units to protect itself in G1.
      That said, I’d rather spend 20-25 IPC’s on tech than plunge it into the Black Sea, of all places.  It’s really irrelevant to me anyway, because I always play with the Dardanelles closed.  I guess that carrier in the Black Sea could help with future amphibious invasions on Bulgaria  :lol:

      Trying to get my positives up!  A few people were spamming me with -'s a week ago.

      You got it for asking these Karma questions when you’re only 12 posts away from finding out anyway.  Plus, it’s never good to be squeaky clean (-0), so you’re welcome.  :lol:

      You can give +1 unlimited as long as you are giving to different people.  You can’t repeat a karma action on the same person within 8 hours.

      Cannon, I thought the same thing going into my first game.  For me, I soon found out I didn’t need the board on the side.  I guess it’s a matter of getting used to something.
      Also, my reply was intended more for swiss than u  :wink:

      @cannon:

      There’s a ton of people playing Axis and Allies Anniversary edition online, I see like 10-20 games going on now.  I don’t know how they do it but people are doing it.

      @idk_iam_swiss:

      Guys I was talking about the guy in the forum who doesnt play A&A at ALL! Of course you play the games face to face. Especially A&A 50, can you imagine trying THAT online? I wouldnt touch it. It would take out all the fun.

      I really don’t think you know what you’re saying.  I’ve played several games of AA50 online, seamlessly.  What’s different about AA50?  Online playing rocks!  Playing face to face, I have to get a friend over here (not easy) and play 5 hour marathons at a time, separated by weeks.  Online, you can make a 10-20 minute move for a country at your leisure.  There’s plenty of trash-talking if that’s what you like.  And no arguing about dice landing in the wrong place and stuff.  Don’t knock it 'til you’ve tried it, dudes.

      Jermofoot-

      I’ve seen you on the Political and General boards for several years, but not on any of the game boards.  Do you play A&A? Care to engage in a friendly game?  AA50-41 is the soup de jur these days.

      Thanks, axis.  Omega told me he’s observed that they play that way in tournament play (heavy bombers can score 2 hits)
      Sure is funny they had it crystal clear in my 2nd edition rulebook from 17 years ago, and now the waters have been muddied  :lol:

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      OK, in my 2nd edition rules, on page 10 it says for Heavy Bombers -
      “In a regular combat situation with military units as targets, roll 3 dice for each attacking heavy bomber - thus each bomber could score up to three hits”
      This phrase is “extremely absent” from the AA50 rulebook.  However, nowhere in the AA50 rulebook have I found that clearly states that this rule has changed.  In other words, there’s nothing to say heavies DON’T hit 2 conventional units apiece.  I would think if this rule was intentionally changed, it would be addressed at least in the FAQ.  That’s why I find it necessary to ask here - I can’t find a definitive answer in any rulebook or FAQ or errata.  Help!

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      @Krieghund:

      Given the context, what is the most reasonable interpretation of “roll two dice for each bomber”?

      Krieg, thanks for the timely reply!!
      Given the context, it sounds like the rulebook itself is implying that each unit can only hit once, including heavy bombers.
      I was asking because I wasn’t sure if there was something in the rulebook I was not considering, or if there was an interpretation of these rules from someone who knows how they were intended.
      I just attacked a Japanese fleet with 3 Heavies and all 6 dice were 4 or less, so right now I wish they could each hit twice.  However, if the actual rule is supposed to be each HB each hits once, that ……  well… that would be interesting.
      In my opinion, long range aircraft would become the most powerful and most devastating surprise chart 2 tech to get…  Which is fine…  Wow, this would really change the game.  Players with heavy bombers would choose to use them to SBR a lot more often.  Unless of course interceptors are in play…  Anyway, I’m just thinking “out loud”.  Please clarify for me again - is there a rule I’m missing?
      In Classic and Revised, the OOB rules were for Heavy bombers to hit two units, right?  Now I’m going to have to go downstairs and read those Classic rules again.

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      I was using a new odds calculator this afternoon, and for heavy bombers, it appears to incorporate the “best of the two dice” rule, so each bomber can only score one hit, and there is a 1/9 chance that a heavy bomber will miss.
      I went back to the rulebook to make sure, and on page 12 for technology it says:
      6. Heavy Bombers.  Your bombers are now heavy bombers.  You roll two dice for each bomber when you attack or make a SBR.  On defense, your bombers still roll only a single die.
      On page 19 under “attacking units fire” it says “Roll one die for each attacking unit with an attack value.  … An attacking unit scores a hit if you roll its attack value or less.”
      :-o
      Now I’m wondering if we’ve all been playing wrong on PBF!  I checked the FAQ and errata and didn’t find this addressed.  I’ve seen people talk about this rule online, saying they use the best of 2 dice method (Commander Jen) or the 100% always hit method for conventional attacks.
      However, it appears to me (at this time, anyway) that once again the rulebook is ambiguous!  Can one heavy bomber get two hits?  It is unambiguous in the rulebook  (page 17) that the total of two dice is added together for each heavy on SBR.  But the rulebook does not make it clear whether each heavy can get two hits, or if it just rolls two dice and if one of those is 4 or less it scores a hit.

    • RE: New odds calc for AAAE

      Rip, this a very nice tool.
      However, I’ve noticed that it’s not computing heavy bombers using 2 dice per bomber.  If I put in one heavy bomber attacking 2 units, there is a zero percent chance of both units being hit.  Do you guys use the house rule that you take the best of the 2 dice?  The default OOB rule is each heavy can get two hits because they roll 2 dice, and that’s the way most people play.  Any chance the tool can be updated for that?
      I know you haven’t posted anything here for 6 months, but thought if I posted on your thread you might see it.
      Thanks

      Thanks, Pin, but have you looked at the one Panther pointed us to?  I think it’s a lot better because it shows the results after a specified number of rounds and gives the probabilities of different results, also keeping track of IPC values.
      Unless I’m missing something, the dskelly one only gives overall probability of winning the battle.  Many times, that’s not what I want to know.  I want to know how much I’m likely to have left after I win or retreat.

      @gtg21:

      Sometimes its nice to know the odds when planning ahead.  Though in this particular instance, I just finished a game where I lost a particular battle that the victor claims was a statistical lock for him to win.   I sincerely doubt it and just wanted to do my own due diligence.

      Its always comforting to know it was just a fluke that caused a certain outcome, and not necessarily a strategic flaw.

      Exactly!!!  Here’s your first +1, gtg!
      This is a nice calculator.  Not perfect, but nice.  Thanks again Panther!!
