We need another great WW2 movie! Anyone doing anything to celebrate/commemorate our victory 80 years ago May or September?

I have been watching several World at War documentary sections with my 24 y/o son. We just watched 50 minute on Stalingrad last night. Several of the things on the maps really made me think of G40 A&A, the turning down by Rostov to the oil fields of the Caucasus, for example. Luftwaffe support pounding Stalingrad. What an absolute nightmare, the documentaries have made me quit playing A&A for awhile in past years.

The World at War series done by the UK in the early 70’s is particularly good. They interviewed a lot of different officials, generals, and normal people and use only authentic footage as they make a montage. HIGHLY recommended by me.

I am really liking my new, very unconventional, G1. But I am doing it in 3 games and in this one and the GovZ I just started, I have yet to see it play out. Trying something new in multiple games can make you regret multiple times because you haven’t learned the downside yet. Of course, if the Paris AA all misses me it looks great.

I have 4 G40 games going for the first time in many years. And I’ve been waiting for someone to go. Wasn’t liking my chances tonight because of European opponents

You can start over with your NCM and since you didn’t think you were doing it for real, go ahead and do the convenient thing and let it roll again. The first roll with 3 damage doesn’t count, that is perfectly fine and you do not owe me for that.

@VictoryFirst Definitely. I stand behind that statement. We just had a playoff game last month where the Axis player had bottom 4% on Paris, poor J1 dice, and then won the 97 battle pretty big. Although he is one of our 2 best players and was playing the 8 seed, our 8 seed resigned right there.

It is definitely great to take out 2 Italian planes and a German one that helps Russia so much, but that is assuming it goes OK. It is an extremely volatile battle that can win it either way. If the Axis survive with a transport and a plane or two, that is devastating especially if they turn it into a pretty quick Egypt capture. And of course, if the Allies win the battle with almost all ships left over after killing 3 planes, the Axis have trouble cleaning it up, and if the Germans lose a lot of planes doing it…

You probably now get the picture

Many players, it seems will never scramble because they want to have control over what happens on their turn, not at the mercy of defensive dice.
I, on the other hand, have always been more of a scrambler on G1 to 110 to take out 2 or more German planes, and often on UK1 or else have a big UK fleet sitting in 97. But in our situation where I skipped 110 (unthinkable to most players) I have the airforce intact so I can clean it up without much risk

@simon33 can you do anything about the triple a programming for casualty choices? It would be a big improvement if the engine would, when enemy destroyers are present, roll the subs separately but NOT require a casualty choice before rolling all else.
Then let player choose the appropriate casualties, that is, a ship hit or sunk for each sub hit

It seems like, with the other capabilities of tripleA, it’s probably not even difficult

I am a bit unusual in getting ANZAC planes to India ASAP, then destroy Italian can openers.

Yours is even a bit more unusual (which is often a good thing) in going straight to Europe and getting to the Med faster, though time to the Eastern front might actually be a turn slower and requiring a Gibraltar airbase. But with the Italian fleet being stupid healthy, the ANZ planes to Mexico make sense - nice!
