I am interested in 2v2 tournament with BM3 or PtV - it’s been too long since last time. I won’t be too picky about who my partner is, either, I just want to have fun

RE: League General Discussion Threadposted in League
It’s good you asked, Amon, others are probably wondering too.
There’s one league.
Four standings sheets - OOB 2nd edition, BM, P2V, and overall/composite.8 games needed in BM to play in BM playoff
?? games needed in OOB to play in OOB playoff
?? games needed in P2V to play in P2V playoffNumber of games required for OOB and P2V will be determined around mid-year (like July) because then we will all know how much activity/interest there is in each of those. That leaves plenty of time for players to get the # of games they need to qualify if they want to play in those playoffs (about half a year)
Composite/overall standings is for everyone’s information, to help you size up your opponents and see where you stand overall. Standings within each version of 1940 A&A govern playoffs by version. Does that answer all questions? If not, please ask follow-up questions. I will update the official league rules someday, but this is the most hectic time of year for me.

@gamerman01 Sure, Italian tanks/bombers are nothing new, but they can still advance max 2 territories. Aussies can attack over 5 sea zones! A bit difficult to follow - they can start in Australia and kill Japanese transports near Korea in the same turn.
I enjoy the discussion, nikola!
You make a great point. To your point that Italian can-openers are nothing new, I say the same about ANZAC planes on US carriers - nothing new there either.
To your point that ANZAC planes can start in Australia and kill Japanese transports near Korea in the same turn, I say that the ANZAC planes had to land on the American carriers the previous turn. Then Japan goes. Then America goes, moving the carriers up to 3 spaces. Then ANZAC goes.On Japan’s turn, therefore, the ANZAC planes are on the carriers. If leaving defenseless transports, the Japan player needs to consider where the American carriers can move, and where the ANZAC planes can move after that.
Nasty, but totally legal.Watch out with Triple A, though, where the ANZAC color is close to the same as the USA color!

I haven’t heard from anyone who I think could do it, no. But I’m gradually getting better and have been able to keep up with duties so far.
The position is always open though - I’m willing to hand it off to someone who has enough experience and good reputation

@nikola1975 said in ANZAC planes on US carriers:
This combo is strong, not only due to colours, but because you really need to watch the whole Pacific - there is no safe place anymore for Japanese.
But, we could create a thread with “nasty but legal tactics”, as you called it, @gamerman01.
One that really made me angry was the fighter attack “over” the wall of ships. Let me explain. Germans were essentially locked in the Mediteranean, with my strong US fleet at Gibraltar. They had fighter on the carrier just inside Pillars of Heracles, launched the attack of a single sub to the whole US fleet of 20 ships, and on basis of that, were able to launch the fighter to sink 10 US transports, 3 sea zones away, at West Indies :)
The explanation was that the sub had tried to break through and if it would have succeeded (?!), the carrier could go through and take the fighter. I was seeing it as sending to a suicide mission - I was wrong obviously. :face_with_head_bandage:
BRILLIANT post nikola. Your opponent has a lot of experience and strong grasp of the rules. Looks like you learned a couple of them the hard way. Very hard. But now you won’t be caught by this many times in the future, and you can use the A&A rules, though quirky, to your advantage!

I will start recording 2022 results in new spreadsheets one of these days - so far I have been busy keeping up with the signups and tournament designs. Thank you for understanding and waiting.

RE: Seeking a better understanding of the bid numbersposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
With the Yunnan bid, some would also put a couple artillery on the Siberian stacks. As exciting as that seems at first, after playing a number of 2nd edition games since then it seems almost rare that the artillery tips scales for the Russians, like in some big attack.
@zlefin said in Seeking a better understanding of the bid numbers:
I wonder why the Yunnan stack proved stronger against Japan than any of the other ways one could spend part of the bid to disrupt Japan.
With rules of only one bid unit per territory, you can’t possibly stack a defense against a G1. But with Russian aircraft + a Chinese man on Yunnan, that is EXACTLY what you can do to Japan. You need the Russian air anyway, and they can fly back home soon. The stuffing stopping power at Yunnan on J1 is the most prohibitive bid placement I can imagine.
Admittedly some of the alternatives are dicey, so they create high variance.
Yeah. No attack, no dice, no chance of failure. That’s the Yunnan bid
At any rate, I look forward to exploring this a bit more, try out some things, at least if I find someone who wants to.
Not telling you what to do, but there are players here who will play Yunnan bid games with you.
The Yunnan bid is extremely powerful. I won’t play against it because I consider it game breaking - it flat out goes against the obvious design of the game for round 1. I have my opponent name his bid placement during bidding so that I know what I’m bidding against. With really high bids, this makes sense to me, but I think I’m the pioneer there.
Securing the Burma road, probably permanently, messes Japan up BIG TIME. Not to mention the sexy artillery China could buy C1, but doesn’t even need to, because she can buy them later. +6 NO every turn, right in the heart of the SE Asia theater, just suffocating.

A&A is just such a freaking awesome game for these reasons. Plus it has army men, tanks, ships and planes. What’s not to like. You just can’t stun an adversary the same way as in A&A. The right combination of cunning, oversight, and pure luck can just… destroy.
Or as Karl7 always used to say - KILL KILL KILL!!!

I will go ahead and play out the game for the integrity of the playoffs if that’s okay. I don’t think forfeiting mid-match or mid-series during a playoff would be an acceptable action in any other competitive field so I apologize for even mentioning it and I also apologize for the delay though as mentioned it was not as long as yours so I think the right thing would be for us just to finish the game. Without any bumps or messages I guess I was just focused on other things and lost track of the time. But I will go ahead and continue now if you agree.
OK, I have now looked at the game thread and this is the situation.
Started on June 20 and went at a torrid pace the whole way, through 7/26, when it was G16. That is nearly a whole round every 2 days.
Then 9/9 trulpen made his R16, though he had waited 45 days. jkeller responded with J16 on 9/25, 16 days later.I found they have a BM4 game going also, where jkeller did J7 on July 27. Trulpen made UK7 on 9/2.
Looks like jkeller could have called both games, unless ther e was some PM understanding between the two. Why can trulpen call the game after 16 days after keller didn’t call it after 36 days? I’m just asking.
keller said above in my quote that he’d like to play out the game. I think given what I’ve seen here, keller should be able to continue the game if he wants, or forfeit if he wants.

RE: Post League Game Results Hereposted in League
So I suppose we don’t know how many great ones we’ve lost to life, and really nothing to do with how great G40 A&A or this website are.
And who knows who will come back - blighter is playing here again, and I played only 2 games between Nov 15, 2017 and Nov 11, 2021, so 2 games in 4 years.
Guess who I played (beat in 4 rounds <cough>) on November 15, 2017?
Of course, I was hanging around enjoying the standings and running things and answering questions and breaking up fights, but still. People can leave and come back years later!

RE: League General Discussion Threadposted in League
First call for playoff signups
If you want to play in the playoff(s) STARTING SOON AFTER 12/31/22 and if you have completed 6 games of balanced mod, 3 games of PTV, and/or 3 games of OOB G40 private message me (preferably) or post to league discussion thread. Then you are signed up and will be in the playoffs. There will be a signup sheet in the rankings spreadsheet where you can confirm you are signed up, and you can see who else has signed up.
If you want to be sure you’re in, post or private message your signup before 1/1/23.
Each game version does have more than 8 qualifying players for the playoffs, and if we have at least 8 signups for each game version, there will be a full bracket of 8 for the championship from the 2022 regular season. If you don’t end up in the top 8, you will still get gripping playoff action!
Players may enter the playoff for more than one version if qualifying with minimum games in each (you have a ranking number in the first column, or 2nd column for BM which requires 6 games done). The overall ranking sheet is so that players playing different versions may be compared (and also to count total number of games for purposes of determining how many games you can play against another individual) and so have no bearing on the playoffs. Your seeding and qualifications are determined from your results IN THAT version’s ranking sheet.
Playoffs are primarily for the enjoyment of players and are single elimination - you lose, you go home and cry. Oh wait, you’re already home. You just cry. Of course it was the dice’s fault.
If you have any questions about how the playoffs work, just send me a PM.

Crockett is in!!
That’s only 1 bye, for the #1 seed if we don’t get another.
Not bad at all.
With 7 players from almost the top to the bottom, the #1 might as well get a bye anyway, and the #2 can have the #7.Great!
