    • RE: Field Marshal Games combat units

      @afrothunder12:

      Oh wow tats quite a while to wait for the units, well hopfully FMG ships them out soon and makes more cuz I was interested in ordering some

      There has been delay after delay with the factory (Sculpts incorrect, the mould was completed but damaged and had to be remade/reshipped to the factory) but they’re on their way very soon!

      And after the learning curve and delays of the Italian set I’m quite sure things have been smoothed over and the rest of the sets will be much easier and quicker to hit production.

      @Razor:

      @special:

      Would’ve been useful if the Global Forum have had a subforum for alpha 2 (not all threads mention this so it often gets confusing). It’s gonna get more messy soon…

      Maybe an idea for all Alpha+3 threads?

      You must be joking, no member at A&A.org play by OOB rules. We always use the latest rules.

      Generalizations are bad (and quite often wrong).

      @kcdzim:

      @gamegeek:

      Considering the German molds are either in production/completed, and the US sculpts are half (or more) done, I don’t think we’re looking at a period of a year myself.  But it may be, because as we all know, delays are inevitable (sadly).

      So then there are still British, USSR, Japan, molds which we have no reason to suspect are at any significant milestone, then the special set with aa guns, bases, etc.  Plus there’s China & France (and anzac, if it has any unique pieces).  Everytime a sculpt needs to be revised, it seems to me that that’s at least a month to sort any changes, then the molds need to be made (and hopefully not remade as in Italy’s case) and then trial pieces for approval….  and THEN production of the units.

      Yeah, I’m all for this project, but I think it’s naive to think it will be done in a year from now (or even a year from Italy release) and I would rather be conservative and continue to guess “well over a year” than suggest “soon soon, hardly any time at all”, and see people take that as gospel and get frustrated with the timetable.

      Excellent points.  I did not think about the sheer number of sets to go still (I’m still stuck on AA50 with just 6 sets, so 1/2 way there!).

      And, as FMG is saying, no more dates.  They come when the come.  Too many people get upset and on the warpath if you give them a possible timeline.

      @Zallomallo:

      Sorry I didn’t read 184 pages, but are all the nations being released at once?

      No, one at a time.  And probably well over a period of a year after release of the Italian set - molds take time, let alone production snafus.

      Considering the German molds are either in production/completed, and the US sculpts are half (or more) done, I don’t think we’re looking at a period of a year myself.  But it may be, because as we all know, delays are inevitable (sadly).

      @12doze12:

      OK, I think that would do it, Thanks gamegeek.

      You’re welcome.  I just looked at the rules for oil tokens you had there and it boggled my mind.  Nobody in their right mind would bother!  lol.
      At least with what I have proposed there MAY be some interest, but even then I personally wouldn’t buy them as I’d rather put those IPC’s towards combat units.

    • RE: Oil production

      No testing required.  As you have them stated they are absolutely worthless because you are spending 9x what you are getting in return (at best).

      More reasonable would be :

      Limit one per territory
      Cost 10
      Built in AA gun
      Targetable for bombing raids (just as factories, shipyards and airfields are)
      Produce +1 IPC per turn, every turn, reduce convoy raiding effect in adjacent sea-zones by 1 IPC.

      Even then, you’d have to hope the game goes to approximately 7-8 rounds (assuming you buy one first round) just get see a break even point from it.

      For the Major/Minor issue: I ordered at Hasbro the replacement set for the Cities of Risk. Totally works as Major IC!

      These are amazing to use as Major’s … and cheap!

    • RE: Oil production

      @12doze12:

      Here are the rules I’m going to use to my oil refineries:

      –--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Cost: 10

      Oil refineries give the nation that possesses it an extra 0.5 IPC income,
      but they only last one turn,

      –--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      This makes them completely useless.  Why would I SPEND 10 IPC’s to GAIN 0.5 IPC’s for one turn?  I would be throwing away 9.5 IPC’s for nothing?

      Several very light coats of Krylon Fusion spray paint in a much lighter brown (for the italians) or a much redder red (for the USSR) fixes the problem entirely.

      (Or just hand painting all of your pieces to look like little models … but only those of us who are insane do that)!

      HAHA!  I was thinking the same thing!
      Nice to see things are coming “soon”!

      @kcdzim:

      @Fishmoto37:

      Those units look red on my computer. Are they red or brown?

      you can see the italian dice in the back, and it’s more or less a color match.  if you have the dice, you can check for yourself.

      If not, looking at my dice, it’s a sort of milk chocolate brown.

      The photos look as though the white balance is off and they were taken under a typical incandescent light which always has a amber hue if you don’t account for it.

      They definately look like they match the combat dice, and yes, Kcdzim is pretty accurate in the color description of those (Milk Chocolate, or MAYBE a bit darker).

      It’s got to be the lighting, but also keep in mind that monitor/video card settings/quality can make a difference too so it’s hard to figure out what color something is online (without reference).

      @DrLarsen:

      I’m a little surprised by the Hellcat, too!  I mean, it was a great fighter and all, but it IS what we have oob and wasn’t made in nearly the numbers of the P-47 or P-51… From a utility angle, though, I suppose it’s all good, since we could use the oob P-38’s as long-range fighters.

      Wasn’t the Hellcat only available in the Anniversary Edition OOB?  I’m not positive but my copy of 1942 and my older copy of revised came with the P38 lightning, and I swear the copy of 1940 I saw was also the P38.

      @ghr2:

      @gamegeek:

      @Krieghund:

      Per the Official Rules Clarifications, the rule is the same in OOB as it is in Alpha.

      The Soviet Union, due to its separate treaties with Germany and Japan, was in a unique position in its relationship with the Axis powers.  As a result, if the Soviet Union is at war with Axis powers on only one map, it is still under the restrictions of being a neutral power (see Powers That Begin the Game Neutral, pg. 15) on the other map.  In other words, a state of war with Japan lifts those restrictions from the USSR on the Pacific map only, and a state of war with Germany and/or Italy lifts those restrictions on the Europe map only.

      So if I read that correctly;

      Russian can NOT enter any neutral territories on the EUROPE map until it is at war with either Germany or Italy (or of course, both) but it CAN enter neutral territories on the PACIFIC map (which are very few and completely pointless anyway).

      Only when its at war with Japan

      I knew I was missing something!

    • RE: What other editions do you play?

      For the easiest transition from Revised, I would suggest Spring 1942.  It is the most similar to Revised, but with some extra territories and seazones, more refined rules and more balanced overall.

      For the BEST official version (to date) I would suggest picking up Europe and Pacific 1940 (E40 + P40 = G40).  It is massive, and it can easily take more than 12 hours to play a game to the point where you know who’s going to win.  And if you just don’t have that kind of time you can play just one of the theaters instead of combining them.

      For the BEST un-official version (in my opinion) I would look at getting the DeathsHead map or Coachofmany’s incredible (and huuuuuuuuge) map.  Of course, you’d likely have to pick up some extra pieces to play either of them!  Those maps are enormous.  And they both have a great rule-set to go along with them.  FMG has also posted a ruleset in the variants section for use with Coach’s map that works incredibly well also.
