      @Veqryn:

      I will happily play as the Axis against anyone without a bid, 1941 or 1942 With NOs.  (see me on tripleA)  :evil:

      I’m on for a PBEM using TripleA
      drop me a PM and we can set a game  :-)

    • Simple question: is the game balanced?

      I haven’t played much
      but I guess some people around here did
      so, is the game balanced?

      does playing with NOs affect the game balance?
      yes? no? to what side?
      is playing with NOs necessary for the Axis to have a chance?
      can I play with out NOs and have a balanced game?

      thanks in advance!

    • RE: Summer 1941

      @WOPR:

      I suppose you’re right, but I still want a German BB. I just think it would make the N. Atlantic much more interesting. The allies would still dominate that theater but it would at least give the Germans a few more gameplay options.

      Two ideas I’m implementing with a friend:
      Transform German Cruisers into “Pocket Battleships” (Graff Spee class): attack and defend on a 3, but take 2 hits to sunk (they still cost the same than a Cruiser)
      Apply modified revised national characteristic to German subs: 3 Germans subs are a ‘wolf-pack’… if there are enemy destroyers, 1 Destroyer cancels 2 Subs especial abilities (but 3rd sub on the ‘pack’ still has her sneak first shoot attack)

      note: we’re combining those German advantages with some other house rules:

      • Italians and Japanese can only produce light-armor: light armor cost 5, move 2, attack and defend on a 2

      • US and UK tanks attack on a 3, but defend on a 2 (still cost 5)

      • Only German and Soviets tanks attack and defend on a 3

      • Soviet Infantry, when defending a City, is artillery supported: all infantry matched with an artillery defends on a 3 (artillery still rolls on a 2)

      • Japanese fighters moves 5 instead of 4 (they’re zeros, they were long range from the beginning)

      • Japanese troops defending a Japanese island defends on 3

      • US Cruisers move 3… alternatively, US Carriers may move 3

    • RE: Color of the Pieces: what are the paint equivalents/codes/names??

      if you think that pieces color are similar, try on playing with a friend who is color-blind, as I did… when he tried a multiple attack against my Russian units in China using both Japanese and Chinese units I know that there was something wrong with him…

    • RE: The UK in the Pacific

      non of the above

      Try to retake an island with Australian fleet
      Try to join US Navy (if there is a US Navy in the Pacific)
      Try to push on the middle east would be great… but, can England do that?

      @Craig:

      If that is what you wish for, then this is the game for you:

      http://www.ww2wargame.com

      “The Struggle for Europe and Asia complete with all of the miniatures, pieces, charts, counters map and rules for $1,195 plus shipping and handling.”  :-o

      anyway… I don’t know if that’s the game for me… but pics shown really nice plastic chips: Japanese carriers that looks like the Akagi, and specially, Italian naval units!

      Any idea about where can I buy the chips?

    • RE: First Impressions

      @TG:

      PRO: The Eastern front.  Great idea splitting up the territories from Berlin to Moscow, making for a more fluid front.  In my game the Germans were able to drive Mongoloid Russians back to the Urals.  This never happened in the original.

      It is really good that Germany alone can beat USSR in 1941, as it almost happened in real war
      I would also like to see an AA game where the Red Army can take Berlin almost alone as they did in 1945

    • RE: Allied Strategy

      @Alair:

      Japan on the other hand, they didn’t do squat in the game I played but maybe it was due to a weak player…. when they did pearl harbour they devoted some land units and fighters to trying to take the island, then had to retreat in the naval battle.  Then USA got long range aircraft and wiped out most of the Japanese navy (they had unescortered transports that would have been out of range).

      you were definitively playing a very poor Japan player.
      the IJN can sunk US battleship at Hawaii, and US destroyer and tranny in front of US West Coast, and retreat to a safe place in J1

      I played an average-to-poor Japanese player and he was collecting 60 ipc by J4 … and then he was spending those IPC in buying Battleships instead of IC to go after Moscow (go figure!). v

    • RE: G1 naval build?

      @Alair:

      in G1 you should be trying to wipe all the english navy out of the seas (except for the annoying battleship off Iceland) .

      can’t you take that one with a bomber, a fighter (land in Norway), and a couple of subs? (not sure about the fighter)

    • RE: G1 naval build?

      Building German fleet on G1… it depends what do you want it for?
      I wouldn’t do it… British will toast it sooner or later (they have to toast it, while Germans have to attack Russia, hence, they have too build land units)

      side note: you know what naval unit does Germany needs?
      pocket-battleships! (like the Graff Spee class)

      attacks and defends like a cruiser but can take two hits… cost like Cruisers with improved ship-yards

    • RE: Do you think Italy has been succesfully modeled in the Game?

      Italy is fine, and having three nations per side is really good too.
      my only complain about Italy is that they could have given her own Navy and Air-force instead of just Germans one with different color.

      (… but they screwed up Japan in 1941  :roll: )

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      I wish they came with more…  I would like to see a variation of AAE with ITALY included as an extra player also.

      that would be great

    • Where can I buy the game cheap (on-line)

      I bought my copy at Amazon.
      but I want to give it as Christmas give to a friend of mine
      So I’m looking for a cheap on-line seller. If they ship internationally, it would be better, otherwise I’ll buy and then mail it to my friend
      any ideas?
      thanks in advance!

    • Japan and IC

      we’re all agree that Japan becomes a monster in 1941 scenario. right? after J3 it would be cashing about 50 ipc per turn… after J4, about 60 ipc…
      it unbalance the game

      now there is an idea:

      why not making Industrial Complex really expensive?
      Let’s say that a new one would cost 40 IPC now.
      side note: did you ever think how weird is that building a whole new factory is cheaper than building a single Battleship?

      so, now Japan can cash a lot … but can’t produce more than 8 units (unless making big investment on a new IC)

      I’m not even sure that would prevent Japan to unbalance the game… but it may help.

      ok… it was just a thought … it may be very flawed  :-(

    • RE: Am I the only one pissed that this has turned into a KGF?

      @Woodstock:

      Random thoguht: Why is everyone always worried that A&A is, and always will be, about KGF?
      I mean…I have never seen any other objective for the Axis to go for a KRF. Talking about repetitive…

      Wouldn’t it be interesting if you would at least have a chance to go for UK?

      yes, it would
      I hate the fact that it’s always KRF for the Axis
      but few people cares about that – maybe because there aren’t many Russians playing the game?  :roll:

      but I guess that KGF should be easier to fix than KRF
      At least there should be a way to balance the game in a way where you have to fight in the entire world
      If the Japanese have to fight the Americans, they can’t go after Moscow… real war was like that (although Japanese Army couldn’t have taken Moscow ever in real life).

    • RE: Am I the only one pissed that this has turned into a KGF?

      The dilemma seems to be this one:

      Japan can’t be ignored because it gets too strong…
      … but since it gets too strong, it’s impossible to deal with…  :roll:

      bottom line: seems Japan to get too strong, no matter what

      Now… there would be a way of making this game balanced and forget about the KGF strategy: i_ndividual winners for real_. I mean: each country should need certain victory cities to be declared the winner. Allied nations can’t fight each other, but their objectives in the war are not the same.
      It would be a different Game – and you should still make Japan weaker for 1941, or Japan will win every game.
      But you won’t have a KGF anymore…

    • RE: I have chosen 2 good tanks from each of the countries in A&A anniversary!

      @tin_snips:

      http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panzerkampfwagen-viii-maus-porsche-typ-205-tiger-iip.htm

      this site has a lot of information on the maus, but only mentioned that the v2 may have seen combat around the testing grounds before it was destroyed. i also read elsewhere that a canadian group claims to have fought against/seen a maus. but no proof about it. that’s why i said ‘apparently saw combat’  :wink:

      there were only two ‘operational’ prototypes: v1 and v2. Both of them were captured by the Soviets (one of them is at a Museum in Russia)… hardly the Canadians could have fought against a Mauss.
