But technically, most of the US was originally controlled by Native American tribes, so they shouldn’t be able to have Major IC’s there, correct? :wink:
Not to mention that Texas was originally controlled by Mexico :wink:

RE: Alpha+.2 Damaged Air Bases & Scrambling questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
They keep their full capacity until they have taken three or more hits.
thanks. One more question: since strategic bombing takes place before regular combat phase (Am I right about this?), I could bomb an Air Base up to 3 damage points and hence it will loos its scrambling capacity for the combat phase, meaning if I’m attacking a sea-zone covered by that Air-Base in the same turn enemy fighters from that air-base won’t be able to scramble in order to defend the sea zone. Am I correct?

Alpha+.2 Damaged Air Bases & Scrambling questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
@Alpha+2:
Airbases provide additional range and the ability to scramble. If an airbase has 3 damage markers it can no longer provide these services. An airbase can only receive up to 6 damage markers, after that they are no longer assigned damage markers. Note: Aircraft can still land in territory whose airbase is out of service.
@Alpha+2:
Scrambling: A quick reaction team of no more than 3 defending fighters and/or tactical bombers (strategic bombers can’t scramble) located on islands and coastal territories that have operative air bases can be scrambled to defend against attacks in the adjacent sea zones.
So my question is: Since Air bases can take a maximum of 3 hits to remain operational, and since (when operational) they can help scrambling up to 3 fighters/tactical bombers, does that means that when an Air Base has taken (say) 2 hits it can only scramble one fighter/tactical bomber (similar rule to Industrial Complex) or do they keep their full capacity until have taken 3 or more hits?

3. Collect 10 IPCs, once, for Soviet capture of Berlin (Germany). Theme: National prestige.
If Zhukov takes Berlin is game over. Why even bothering about collecting 10ipc for the USSR? Building up for the Cold War?
those 10 bucks may be really useful to assemble a nice Victory Parade at the Red Square :-D

Volgogradposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I find really annoying that Stalingrad is named Volgogrod in the game. Volgogrod was the pre-revolutionary name of the city, and the way is named again now, in the post-soviet era. But the game takes place during the WWII, the city was named Stalingrad back then. The famous battle may very well not even happened the way it did if the city didn’t carried Stalin’s name: as we all know the battle for Stalingrad degenerated into a big ego struggle between Hitler willing to take Stalin’s city and Stalin daring him to take it, and Zhukov taking advantage of all that.
Same goes for Novogrod/Leningrad

RE: Speeding up the gameposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I’m not sure I understand what you’re meaning.
You mean start playing a Global Game like two independent games, one in Europe and one in the Pacific and then at some point (like when USA enters the war) melting both games together? :?YES! that is exacly. I couldn’t have said it better! :-D
actually, I couldn’t :-o -
Speeding up the gameposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Cheers!
I’m looking for ways to speed up the game a little bit, and I’m wondering if anyone has tried this or if it is even possible:
It strikes me that one reason why games take long is going all around the players round. I think it would be faster if two players could play their turns at the same time, simultaneously.
I’m guessing the war in Europe and the war in the Pacific follow a parallel path until the US enters the war (and then the parallels intersect). So I’m wondering if is it possible to start playing in the two maps at the same time. By that I mean that German & Japanese player’s could be playing at the same time as if we were playing two different games (one in Europe’s map, and other in the Pacific map) until something happens that brings both maps together (I’m guessing US getting involved in the war, or Japan trying on going after the USSR).
any ideas?

Ships scale questionposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Cheers,
does anyone know what is the approximate scale of ships in AA50? (specially AC and BB)
Thanks -
RE: Triple aposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Pact of Steel (PoS) is really good.
much better than Revised (IMHO). It makes a ‘shorter’ AA50
I would love to see a PoS with AA50 subs, trannies, and tech rulesThey they have some other “monster” versions of the game that are too big, long, and complicated (if I want to walk the walk to a much longer game I would simply jump to War in Flames)

RE: What is the USSR sub useful for?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
@Cmdr:
England has 7 Cruisers, 1 Battleship, 4 Transports (and odds and ends.) They are repeatedly bombarding the crud out of Germany and taking minimal losses to themselves (…) England may bombard at their pleasure!
England has to land as many ground troops as ships bombardments she wants to shoot, hasn’t she?

RE: What is the USSR sub useful for?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
@Cmdr:
Russian submarine utility is not at the start of the game, it’s in the middle. Russia gets to go right after Germany and before England, this means their submarine can “pave the road” for the British navy!
clever girl!

RE: Most useless technology?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
- super-subs for USSR (now, if you’re USSR and you’re rolling for naval/air you should had been murdered during Stalin’s purges)

Thanks for the info Romulus; great stuff. Fully agree. good karma for you

RE: Subs questionposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
thanks about your answers guys
so basically that’s the rules: planes can not hit subs unless a destroyer is present, period.
got it
now about the rationality of the rule…
Honestly, I think it is a good rule. It is the attackers choice if they want to attack surface ships or not. If they only want to attack surface ships, then only bring planes (and only lose planes). If they want to sink subs, bring a destroyer. It should not be the defenders choice at all. I’m ordering my planes to attack ships, not subs.
like I could order my tanks to attack enemy tanks and not enemy infantry :wink:
I think it should be defenders’ choice
places sink subs during ww2 when they caught them on the surface – not sure how often, but just watch German film “Das Boot”I could be ordering my planes to attack enemy Battleships and Carriers and ignoring those annoying destroyers too
my point is: is there any rationality for not considering subs a ‘regular’ escort ship?
(note: I can understand that you have to take down the infantry before getting the tanks, because that was usually the case during battles – meaning tanks that were isolated from their infantry were easily killed. Same about bombers and fighters. Is it arguable that submarines role within fleets was different in terms that they were not escort ships? I guess you could argue that … but then why planes only can not take them down first?)
tnx

Subs questionposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
planes can’t attack subs unless there is a destroyer present …
… but: if someone attacks my fleet with planes … can I take enemy fighter and bomber’s hits with my subs if I want so? (even if the attacking force doesn’t has a destroyer?)

Can chinese fighter attack sz?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Situation:
Chinese fighter survives J1 at Yunnan (yes, I know :roll:)
Japs leaves 2 un escorted transports at sz61 (hey! who would think that Flying Tigers were going to survive!)Question: can Chinese Fighter attack those transports at sz 61 and land back at Yunnan?
movement total is 4; fighter will land at Chinese owned territory… but it’s attacking outside China’s borders … on the sea though…so? :?

RE: Beginner looking for feedback on his G1posted in 1941 Scenario
To me, Germany is all about the potential to destroy Russia and not actually doing it.
so who does actually destroy Russia? Japan?
or nobody does it and the Axis win either by economic victory or by “honorable surrender” option?
