Is the request customizable for different servers in TripleA? I would want my dice server to indicate in the e-mail which dice hit and missed, and to do that you’d need to know the kinds of units attacking.

RE: Can Germany win without Africa?
Yeh - I’m still getting a feel for the actual game. I agree with Switch, I hope the extra few units from Africa, and the fact that I won’t be diverting any production to Africa, offset the loss.
Anglo- I definitely should have attacked with greater strength. Oh well, now I don’t have to worry about spending money in Africa.
The Med fleet - I used less strength than NPB suggested but came out unscathed (except losing the BB on UK1 - but on the other hand my TRN shot down his bomber and lived. The BB is of limited use now anyway.)
Karelia - yes, overkill, but the figs weren’t missed anywhere else (except maybe Anglo E)
Ukraine - that was a total blunder, but I lucked out on defence - he only killed my Inf, leaving my Arm + Art untouched, and losing more units himself in the attack. So I lost some Inf, but not as many as Darth, and all my expensive offensive units have been withdrawn to a more sensible location.
I agree, the combat move was off, but I’ve been saved somewhat by lady luck, so IMHO it’s not so dicey now :)
I think with Ger I’ll be able to keep Europe intact, and wait for Japan, which is going to cut through Asia like a hot knife through butter.
As for Japan, I don’t see how the build was defective. I’ll be landing 9 units on J2, and 11 units on J3.

RE: J1 Two IC Build
In the game DarthMaximus and I just started, I thought long and hard about this. The situation was that the UK (Darth) pretty much moved all his asian units west, leaving 1 Inf to welcome me into India. The SZ59 TRN survived.
So I had 2 TRN and lots of land to start. I thought about 2 ICs but just bought 1 - 2 seemed like an over-commitment. I was really tempted to put the IC in Fic, with no allied units nearby, but chose Man as the safer option. Of course I don’t want to speculate about strategy too much, but this thread is very interesting to me… My only other build was 1 TRN, which on J2 will be enough to shuttle all remaining original Jap units to the mainland.
I also captured China and Bury, so Jap income is at 36, plus 7 saved from the first round. On J2, it’ll be nice to spend 43 IPCs with 1 IC on the mainland and 3 TRN in the water.

RE: Can Germany win without Africa?
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. We’ll see how R2 goes.
I have little experience with actual play - 4 games against other newbies, basically, so I’m just wondering how screwed I am.

RE: Can Germany win without Africa?
I re-took Ukraine with 6 Inf 1 Art 5 Arm in G1 (which I think now was a mistake, depending what Darth does). He could take these out in a fairly even battle (or he could lose). What may save me is that Japan had a phenomenal first round (not a single loss) and an IC in Manchuria and 5 Fighters in Frindo and 5 inf in China, so Russia may have to save some strength for the Japanese onslaught.

RE: Flat Earth Society
This is proof that the Bible is scientifically accurate?
Last time I looked, tents were made of canvas and could be folded up and moved. Also liable to burn if you have open flames in them. Can anyone think of other ways in which the solar system / sky / galaxy is different from a tent? Maybe we should get Stephen Hawking in on this one.

RE: Can Germany win without Africa?
@froodster:
The question is, how tough will it be for Germany without ANY african income after UK2?
Very tough. :-D
Thanks for the unbiased opinion Darth :-P

Can Germany win without Africa?
Just playing my first real game in a while (PBEM with DarthMaximus, in the Play by Forum).
Anyhow, my assault on Anglo-Egypt was a total flop (lost everything but my fighter) and UK has now unloaded 2 Arm 2 Inf in Algeria, with the US about to send 2 more boatloads. So the odds of maintaining any german presence in africa is slim. The question is, how tough will it be for Germany without ANY african income after UK2? Is it just a matter of hoping Japan is fast enough now, or can Germany put up a good fight without Africa?

RE: A good. stable Dicey is hard to find…
I’m willing to do something, but I have no idea how to make a Java app talk to a php script. PHP/HTML is all I know. If you can give me some pointers though I can build something. If tripleA sends HTTP requests we’re in the money - just request eg:
http://frood.net/aacalc/diceserver.php?roll=5@2&3@3&1@4
and I can make a script to generate/send the dice - that would be way easier than the sim itself. Actually you’d have to separate out sub dice because they can’t hit planes.
I also have a page that just rolls dice - http://frood.net/dice/ - it doesn’t send e-mail though.

RE: Turn Summary context for Play By Forum
You mean the one that’s already there - sure, it would work too I guess, once TripleA is able to receive input on the # of hits
-
RE: Does Germany ever build ICs?
Once the IC is present though, it does give you the option to deliver units instantly, which might be critical in some circumstances.
I don’t know, I just hate those Inf. taking so long to get to the front. I guess TRNs are another option.

RE: Flat Earth Society
I don’t think having a God provides anymore certainty, given the considerable disagreement about what God says. Gandhi, Osama and Jennifer all have pretty different takes on what God says.

RE: Turn Summary context for Play By Forum
TripleA does have dice servers that send out the dice for verification. See the other thread for the new features, I think it will work.

RE: TripleA Changes for PBEM
And what’s this business with renegotiating bad dice? Do people seriously do that? It’s a game. with dice. The dice don’t work out, you live with it. And maybe play Low Luck instead next time. So anyhow I don’t think that’s a scenario that you should have to worry about accommodating, esp. as one of the features of TripleA as a game engine is to prevent illegal moves (such as re-rolling the dice.)

RE: 8000 posts?!?!
Just did the math - you have to post 22 times a day in a year to reach 8000 posts. That’s tough to keep up!

RE: TripleA Changes for PBEM
So when you say “fix the battle outcome” I imagine a screen similar to the “purchase units” or “move units” dialogs where you can simply adjust the units of each side, maybe with one master button for each side that would set all units to 0 for that side.
Actually, it could be accomplished simply by skipping the dice, and then removing the limitation in the casualty screen that you have to match the number of casualties (or by allowing the player to specify the total number of casualties) and then you just take as many casualties from each side as necessary to reach the final outcome indicated by the dicey. Then you end the battle as normal.

Without God, anything is possible!
What does that mean?

RE: PBEM - Hints, tips, and tools
To bring it back on topic - the dicey.net links in the first post are out of commission.
Also, for new users here I think a comparison between the different maps and map software available would be helpful. I’m still not sure whether ABattleMap or MapView is better, and neither is mentioned in the first post.
-
RE: TripleA Changes for PBEM
I agree, a map edit is a really good idea for all kinds of scenarios. I just thought that in the interim the ability to enter a # of hits generated by a dice server would be easier to implement and would solve the immediate need of PBEM games with non-TripleA players.
-
RE: PBEM - Hints, tips, and tools
If the opponent is not using TripleA, how do the results of their moves get put in? I guess that’s where the “Map edit” feature would come in.
Why does that need to be auditable? When people update their board or ABattlemap, nothing is auditing them in that.
Rather than a map edit, why not just add a feature to enter number of hits manually instead of rolling dice? Then you can take the number of hits rolled by DAAK by the other player and just move the game along that way.
