    • RE: Strategic bombing your way to a win

      I just feel that bombers are too expensive for what they do. The game might be more interesting if they were a better value and people would buy more of them. Well, it’d be different anyway.

      Or you could add a new unit, a fighter/bomber. Same range as a fighter, same attack/defence as a bomber, (or  4/2 or something like that).

      Not that the game needs to be changed, but what if you just got rid of SBR and made Bombers a little cheaper (or attack on a 5)?

      I think I fixed it - one little line was still operating on the assumption that OOL entries should be separated by spaces. Which makes me wonder why it worked at all in Firefox…

      Well both Jap and Ger have lots of Ftrs so I’ve been sending 2 - otherwise they’re doing nothing, and it reduces the chance of not hitting at all and giving the def another shot.

      Yeah, but good techies should test their web pages in IE6 too…  :-P

      What I’m noticing Darth doing is tank blitzing the empty territory to get the income and then blitzing the Tank back to his main force. This would be another way of trading - it would just be better for the player who is less able to afford the Inf. bleed every turn.

      I’ve sometimes been attacking 1 Inf garrisons with 2 Inf 2 Ftr - because 1/3 times the defender kills an Inf, I can ensure I’ll have something left to hold it with. Of course, that also means losing one more Inf, but if both live, he has to attack 2 Inf. It’s a pain in the neck, no matter how you go about it (garrisoning/trading).

      I think I see the problem - IE6 seems to substitute the dashes in the OOL with spaces or underscores. Now that I’ve narrowed it down to an IE6 issue it should be an easy fix. Thanks Rob.

      I haven’t seen problems myself, but obviously there is some issue that people are experiencing.
      It would help if people would post here as code (next to the quote button) the full contents of the OOL box and also post the URL of the page as they’ve submitted it.

    • RE: Sub v. sub combat clarification

      The reason I posted here is that the issue came up in a game with CC. Our interpretations on reading the rules differed (we settled amicably) so I wanted to get some outside opinions.

      I read the rules too, it just seemed ambiguous. After reading again though that in ordinary combat the attacker also rolls first, that makes it clear that the order of rolling is just for the sake of who selects casualties first.

      Some updates:

      Fixed bug where AA guns stayed selected in the form after running battle for a single round of combat once.

      Added “D. units to be left alive” to simulate strafing attacks.

      Added average battle duration to averaging mode.

      I did not say that he didn’t kick ass.

      I only said that I do not know that he does.

      Therefore, you are incorrect when you state that "Everyone knows … "

      As a parallel example, I would be incorrect if I said “Everyone knows humanity is causing global warming.” Switch does not believe (or know) this, so I would be wrong to claim that everyone did.

    • RE: Sub v. sub combat clarification

      I just tried TripleA, jap sub v. UK sub. After both missing for three rounds, the attacking UK sub hit. TripleA then allowed the Jap sub still to roll (it actually does the rolls sequentially, not simultaneously), which also hit, and the SZ was left empty, both subs dead. Mutual kill.

      It seems to me the evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of simultaneous opening fire. I consider this issue resolved unless someone has other evidence.

      @M36:

      W? Everybody knows W kicks a**, and its the dumbasses in Congress who have screwed things up.

      Logically incorrect, sir. I do not know this (true or not). ergo, not everybody knows this.

      Now I’m confused - you’re saying that DAAK allows both to fire. Jennifer said that DAAK backed her up though. How does TripleA do it?

      @Jennifer:

      I’ve always played it, and Flames of Europe and DAAK support me on this, that if the defending sub is hit by the attacking submarine, and no destroyer is present, it dies without firing a shot.

      Well frood.net/aacalc/ supports me  :-D

      So we have some disagreement it seems. I’m with RJ, because Jennifer’s way has the effect of creating three stages of combat. If they fire simultaneously, I would think that both torpedoes are in the water and whether one hits has no effect on whether the other gets launched.

      Not for Russia, where an Inf in Evenki will be replaced by one from Russia…

      Also, odds are 1/3 that your inf will kill one of theirs, while odds are close to certain they will kill yours. As Switch pointed out, a single Inf is only good as a blitz blocker.

      OT: And re: lose: it doesn’t help to also have the words choose / choosing! I have heard that English is the hardest language in the world to learn to spell because the rules are so inconsistent.
