    • RE: New Rules Deputy

      @Krieghund:

      If you do end up giving out badges, don’t forget to include Frimmel, as he is the official deputy for the “battle” games (D-Day, Guadalcanal, and Battle of the Bulge).

      “Badges? Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges.”  :mrgreen:

      A bit late to the party. I guess I need to look in this forum a bit more often.  :lol:

    • RE: Cruiser minis misproduced?

      This is common. It was in all of the first run (only run?) of the game. You were able to go through the customer service department and get a corrected set of pieces with the US ships in green and the Japanese ships in burnt orange (and got to keep the incorrect units) but I’m not sure if you’re still able to do so.

      Here’s the thread I made on it: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=10827.0

      Please note it is seven years old.

    • RE: D-Day 2nd edition underway?

      @Imperious:

      I hate to say it but i think we have seen the last AA game unless they do a retro reprint with painted pieces. The only other thing would be an AA game in a totally different period

      I certainly think we’ve seen the last of the “single battle” style games. I hold no hope of seeing anything new on the lines of D-Day, Guadalcanal, or Battle of the Bulge.

      I don’t think something more in the lines of Anniversary Edition is out of the question (bigger map and more countries than 41/42 sets but not up to the global size or complexity) or as you say a “totally different period” or on some sort of fictional planet.

      Maybe something “between” the miniatures game and Memoir '44 but that doesn’t seem likely either.

      Pretty sure we’re not going to get a 2nd edition of this too. Given how we’ve only got new versions of the global games since Guadalcanal the demand for it or at least the perceived demand for it just isn’t there.

    • RE: Star Wars Lives!

      Haven’t really got to see any of “Rebels” but I’ve been enjoying the “Lost Episodes” of the Clone Wars series now that I’ve got them on blu-ray.

      My thing with Rebels is that it seems so very much “by the numbers” from the announcement stuff I followed. Not so much that it would be “bad” but that there wouldn’t be a lot of “there” there. I came across it in the guide but I didn’t get that station in my cable package and never went back to look for it.

    • RE: MOVIE'S 2014

      My problem is they tried to tell to much story and also tell a bunch of story that was just created for the movies so they wouldn’t get yelled at for being sexist and some story that is just meant to tie it into the Rings films because the story of how Bilbo got the Ring of Power isn’t tie in enough. The whole thing was product cinema by focus group at its almost worst.

    • RE: MOVIE'S 2014

      The Hobbit movie needed a whole lot more Hobbit.

      Between those three movies there is probably a half way decent three to three and a half hour movie.

      The love triangle/forbidden love nonsense would be among the first things to get cut, along with the coward/weasel and the whole Sauron side plot.

      The third Hobbit installment fall squarely on the “doesn’t suck, can’t say it is good” tile. This last installment is by far the weakest of a series of films that already had issues. The whole thing is just bloated and over-produced.

      @LHoffman:

      @frimmel:

      We have also seen that lightsabers tend to be “sticky” in that the blades don’t slide along one another hence the lack of cross guards in the previous films: they aren’t needed on these weapons.

      While I understand people describing lightsaber dynamics as “sticky”, I have never personally viewed them as such. There certainly has never appeared to me to be any stickiness to the fight sequences. If anything the saber contact usually lasts a fraction of a second or they simply are being pushed together by the users.

      There is definitely some saber on saber movement here at 1:52 and 2:13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRd9PGmAQUE#t=110

      There is some movement but neither blade is sliding up to the cross guard. Either way I don’t like that longsword lightsaber.

      @frimmel:

      This lightsaber epitomizes the style over substance I’ve come to expect from JJ.

      The rather ridiculous shot in the teaser that follows the Millennium Falcon through an upside down loop sealed the JJ-ness for me. Well that and the crazy little soccer ball droid. The first was very obviously a non-traditional Star Wars shot. Jarringly so.

      I thought that was horrible. It would have been okay if it were a cockpit view but otherwise what are they trying to show? Especially with more or less a tight zoom. That Falcon shot was awful. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

    • RE: Star Wars Lives!

      This saber is strictly because that hack JJ thought it looked cool. They put zero thought into it before deciding to do it. They then left it to the fight coordinator to make it work no doubt.

      I point out that the Jedi have typically been shown to use samuraii styled swordsmanship. The Tsuba similar to a cross guard is not frequently used in that style of fighting. I’d also point out that the cross guard typically keeps the opposing blade from sliding all the way down your blade to your hands.

      The blade shown in the underwhelming preview has points near the blade where the light saber cross guard is projected. It has been shown that lightsabers hilts may be sliced by lightsabers. A lightsaber sliding down the claymore lightsaber blade would cut the protrusion projecting the cross guard defeating the main purpose of the guard. This flaw in the weapon design combined with the other difficulties inherent in wielding a weapon as dangerous to the user as these cross guards would be suggests it is not a practical choice.

      We have also seen that lightsabers tend to be “sticky” in that the blades don’t slide along one another hence the lack of cross guards in the previous films: they aren’t needed on these weapons.

      I lost one of my cats in September. I’m still crushed. I’m sorry to hear this.

      I don’t have a long, “to do list” for facing the end. Seems to me it’s time to have just one item on it, “Enjoy the day.”

      As soon as I saw the cop uniform I knew Beth was in trouble. Rick gave his up after a week or so?

      That Dawn cop chick is more psycho than Gareth.

      No not a “Rah, rah, Go Team” war film. It happens to be about US soldiers. It is respectfully gritty. Not by any means a “Pearl Harbor” type of deal. “Unromantic” seems a good word.

      It isn’t pedestrian because it is commercialized. It just doesn’t really cover any new ground or have a new idea.

      Kids who haven’t seen a lot of war pictures will probably take more out of it than those of us with a shelf of them in our DVD collections.

      Caught this yesterday. Not a bad flick but is probably best described as “pedestrian.” I thought Pitt was really good and the thing is “Saving Private Ryan” level graphic. I wouldn’t call it “must see.” I don’t think any one interested will find it a waste of time though.
