    • RE: Attack land units or airfields

      Land units can not attack/damage an airfield.

      The concept is that the ships and bombers are putting holes in the airstrip to make it unusable by planes. This takes tons and tons and tons of bombs (I seem to think there was a thread about it.)

      If your land units had enough time and enough explosives and equipment to significantly damage an airfield you wouldn’t want to, you’d be using it yourself.

    • RE: Can air units fight in more than one battle on a turn?

      Yep. That is a good point and it happened to me with a different game. I remember in our group when we were playing the old Decipher Star Wars CCG. Someone said it worked like so and had convinced someone else and hence the rest of the group (five or so of us.) I argued that that made no sense for it to work like that. That they were wrong. Pointed it out in the rulebook (I always read the rulebook even if it isn’t my game,) explained why it working like that would be terrible game design, but was overruled.

      So we play for about a month like this until someone else comes in and points out that I was in fact correct. “Did I not sit in that chair and say exactly the same thing?” I think they didn’t really care which way was right so much as that I be wrong.

      I’m still waiting on my apologies but considering how when played correctly I started crushing everyone I’m not surprised they weren’t forthcoming.

      The OP is lucky with his newfound knowledge though. He got new A&A games this week.

      @Gargantua:

      George Lucas just phoned me, and asked if I’d want to play Jar Jar…

      Which one of you told him I was just as annoying?

      I SWEAR if I find out…

      No one told him. He’s an A&A player and a frequenter of these forums. He figured it out for himself.

      We play regularly. His custom built table is amazing. He got the model maker’s at ILM to do all the pieces. Talk about detail.

      :wink:

      My kids are excited about the older cast in a new role. I believe it will be either great or crash and burn.

      What else is left?

      With Abrams directing? A steaming pile of mediocrity is most likely.

      @Hepps01:

      lol.  I was thinking the exact same thing!  20 some odd years.

      I’m trying to imagine how I’d ever have played for that long given the huge impact the way you were playing would have had on each game.

      I’m just surprised that he didn’t run into anyone who set him straight. I wonder what his usual partners are going to have to say about this.

    • RE: Aircraft movement

      Air units on the base card may be moved in move phase 7 or 8 as appropriate.

      Reinforcing aircraft i.e. ‘new units’ may be rapidly deployed if they are purchased in conjunction with a carrier that is then rapidly deployed. Only sea units may rapidly deploy. New fighters without carriers and new bombers will deploy to the island to await movement phase 7 or 8 of the next turn.

      @Canuck12:

      P.S. Anybody Remember that Samuel L. Jackson movie, The Negotiator?

      I think of the scene with him standing in the window and a couple of dozen laser site dots on his chest every time the rhetoric gets started about rising up against the government. Also the similar scene in “Predators” where Brody’s character is covered in the equivalent.

    • RE: :STRATEGY GAMERS!: If you are Dorner… whats your next move?

      Well you have to strike again or you’ll just get lost in the media cycle. But the more attacks you carry out the more you increase the chance that you’ll be caught and again get lost in the media cycle. I’d want to dial up the violence without killing more and with a lot of destruction of police property. Too much killing and you’re just a malicious psycho who wants to hurt people. Terrorism is a delicate art.

      I’d want to get sentiment turning against the police. I haven’t been following closely. I just have a rough idea what this guy is on about. If you just slip away you fail in getting the outside microscope/spotlight looking at what’s going on. I’d be trying to make them look incompetent so again not getting caught. So you want to terrorize the police and get them doing things that inconvenience the regular folks. You want to do a cycle of getting them all hyped up and hyper-vigilant and then relaxing only to end up hyper-vigilant again.

    • RE: Teaching new players

      @BJCard:

      I am hosting two new players (so… the three of us) and I have the following games:

      Revised
      Europe
      Pacific
      DDay
      BOTB
      Guadalcanal
      1942 1st Edition
      AAE1940
      AAP1940

      Which would be the easiest game to use in teaching two new players in order to groom them to 1940 without discouraging them?  Obviously DDay, BOTB, and Gualalcanal are probably out, and I don’t want to throw them at Global right away.

      I was thinking either the original Europe or just doing Europe 1940.  Or do you guys think I should do 1942 1st Edition?

      It depends on their previous wargame and strategy game experience. I would not suggest BOTB or GCNL or either of the 1940 games. Since you have 1942 I’d say the rules out Revised (from a learning point of view they’re the same except 42 has the more current ruleset) if the goal is to work up to the 1940 versions.

      I’d say Europe 1st edition or the 1942. Europe would probably be easier for learning basic mechanics like how things move and how you buy and how to do combat and what roles the units play without too many complicated strategy decisions. Give the more advanced player Germany and the lesser one the Soviets and you play the US and mentor.

    • RE: Multiple questions about gameplay

      @Robert:

      Question 2: Lets say I have in one zone 7 infantries… can I move 4 of them to one zone and the other 4 to another zone? not at the zone zone I moved the first three.

      All units in a zone do not have to have the same destination.

      Question 3: Yes all unit attack and defend for one round, but my question is when for example soldiers attack. They attack a tank? or only soldiers?

      All land units attack or defend against all other land units. There isn’t a phase for infantry attacks tanks or whatever.

      Question 6: I understand that on 11 the allies attack and on 13 the Axis. What I don’t understand is the defense number that they have on pages 5 and 6 of the manual. And I guess I have not figured out how the battle is been done… (When I attack and hit one the other player roles a die too for defense? Does the defender only roles a die to defend the units are hit or all of the land units he has on the  zone?

      During combat all the land units in a zone go to the battleboard. During 11 the Allies units go on the attacker side and on 13 the Allies units go on the defender side. During Attack they cause a casualty on their attack value or less and on defense on their defense value or less. All units that end up on the battleboard get to roll even if they have been hit. Combat is considered simultaneous.

      Usually for simplicity’s sake the attacker’s dice are rolled first and the units hit are pulled down to the bottom of the board to keep track of what has been hit. Then the defenders dice are rolled (even the hit units get to roll.) The units that have been hit on each side are removed and everything that is left is returned from the battleboard to the zone.

    • RE: Multiple questions about gameplay

      @Robert:

      Hi there
      Thank you so much for yr help guys in advance  :mrgreen:

      1. On Order Card 5
        If I place a bomber on a zone containing 3 Axis land units do i through the die for each Axis, that means three times or just once?

      Roll one die for each bomber you place in the zone and for each hit remove your choice of unit.

      2)On order card 8
      Can I move from one zone some infantry to one adjacent zone and some others to another adjacent zone or I have to remove them all to the same adjacent zone that I pick?

      This is movement. All land units not locked in combat or in a beachhead box may be moved to an adjacent zone.

      1. On order cards 11 and 13
        Do infantry attack only infantry? Tanks only tanks etc… ?

      All units attack or defend for one round.

      )
      5)Do blockhouses fire in the the order cards 11 and 13 or they fire only when Order card 9 tells them to?

      Blockhouses are included in combat.

      6)On the Manual pages 5 and 6 all combat units have Attack, Defense and move… What is the number at defense used for?

      On Order 11 Allies units are the attackers. On order 13 Allies are defenders.

      1. On Order card 12
        Do Axis chooses to move or not and if they move they get attacked by the fighters? If yes do they fire back?
        Fighter fire only units which they move in or out form the zone they are placed?

      Any moving axis unit faces fire from all aircraft both in the zone it is leaving and in the zone it is trying to enter.

    • RE: Question about Battleship's Special Abilities

      @Sir_Cala:

      Heavy Armor: Ignore the first hit on a battleship each turn (a roll of 1 or 2).

      Resilience: Damaged instead of destroyed on a hit roll of 2.

      Say for example sub does it’s torpedoes attack rolls a 1.
      " a unit damaged or destroyed by this attack will be removed from the zone before it can attack."
      Because of its Heavy armor it ignores its attack.

      A second sub then attacks rolls a 2. The battleship is now destroyed because of the subs special attack correct?

      No, the Battleship is only damaged and placed in the damaged area of the base card before proceeding to the combat phases. Rolls of two only damage battleships, cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers. Battleships ignore the first hit on them no matter the value of the roll. The subs special ability causes the damage or sinkings they do to be enforced before the combat phase.

      You need at least two subs and each need to hit in order to remove the battleship during the sub attack phase. The second hit needs to be a 1 in order to destroy the battleship and collect the victory point. Any hit by a sub will carryover to the combat phase. Remember also that each sub moves and rolls separately.

      Second scenario

      A sub uses its torpedo attack hits and this attack is ignored.

      In the Naval combat a 2 is rolled. The Battleship is damaged it would take another hit to destroy it correct?

      Correct. Specifically another hit in the same combat.

      OMG Did any of you see the last Star Wars The Clone Wars? Best episode yet, awesome fight sceen.

      spoilers

      The new episode of Feb 2nd was pretty good. Didn’t see what’s his name getting involved. But it made perfect sense. And that was a pretty good fight scene. Was also very sad to see the Duchess’s misfortune. That was a dark episode.
