    • RE: Mobiliaztion of Units at ICs

The biggest challenge my primary opponent faced when we moved to Revised was that everything wasn’t quite where he thought it was. I had to tell him many times for about the first three games, “that doesn’t reach.” He also seemed to have big problems with the fact that there is an “inside” and “outside” sea zone at Japan instead of only one. It threw his logistics off for awhile.

Essentially though it isn’t that different, buy enough infantry and stick to your plan. I don’t have that many games of Classic under my belt but I find the revised game to be much more satisfying.

    • RE: Why I hate SBR!!!

I see everyone’s bombers get shot down more often than seems “fair.” It is likely right in line with the stats but it sure seems to be bent against it. I think it is just because you remember losing them more than you remember them getting through. Remember dice are fickle little daughters of Lady Luck.

The only sure thing about luck is it will change.

It helps me to think of the total destruction wreaked by my bombers. I try to keep aa running total of all hits it scores or IPCs “destroyed” anything over twelve IPC worth and I feel well less unokay when it gets shot down in SBR.

    • RE: Mobiliaztion of Units at ICs

Any IC can only produce the a number of units equal to the value of the territory it is in. So you can only build 8 INF in Moscow a turn even with boatloads of Russian cash.

Creates a more diverse force so far in my experience. “Makes you” throw in a few higher priced pieces instead of only building INF.

    • RE: IC builds for G?

Does it get you to Moscow faster than anything else you can build with 15 IPCs? Anything that Germany buys that can’t shoot and take a hit is a bad idea.

    • RE: Africa

But when all attacks against Germany come at once? Sync up a southern attack with a push from Russia and the Brits in Western? Can you throw them all back? Any troops diverted from the march on Moscow is a victory for the Allies. And Germany can’t afford to Garrison both Southern and Western and they can’t afford to just hand them over. Ships in the Atlantic are a better deal for the US than their Pacific counterparts. Japan has a lot of Navy. Often Germany doesn’t have one. And the G1 AC purchase is just four INF and an ART that aren’t going to Moscow. Every turn Moscow stays in Allied hands is another nail in the Axis coffin. Africa is a distraction. Get to Moscow.

I have 14 hours and 40 minutes and I’ve been registered less than a month. As we say around the local game shop “It keeps me off the tower.”

    • RE: What to do with my German Navy?

I usually operate under the theory that any Navy for Germany except for the Baltic AC and a few Baltic transports is money out the window. As the Allies my second axiom is “Sink the German Navy as soon as practical.”

    • RE: Africa

Africa money is good but don’t forget that Africa isn’t where the war will be won. I do like the middle east route to the Caucuses though as much as the Africa cash.

    • RE: Making UK more exciting

I think UK is exciting too. I don’t understand why anyone thinks a country is “boring.” I mean if you have better things to do find a different game.  :-) It improves your play as any one country to take a stab at playing one of the others.

    • RE: Researching

I can’t speak to higher level games but we don’t usually do reasearching in our games. Now our pool of players is very limited (mostly the 2 of us.) That isn’t to say we don’t do it, I needed to take out Germany and as I had been buying some bombers and could afford the dice I rolled for heavy bombers. Tripling my bombers for a savings. I was also growing impatient. Usually we feel the IPCs are better spent on units.

What INF tokens do you mean? The units on the board are always the units on the board. Your INF can’t become ships. Tech can give units additional abilities or modify exsisting ones but an INF figure or gray chip under an INF figure is always INF. You can’t “trade in” a FTR for 3 INF and one IPC. 3 INF and one IPC can’t be “traded in” for a FTR. Is that what you are asking?

    • RE: Japan taking moscow

I have personlly never seen Japan in Moscow. I have seen them on the Eastern Gate, in the Caucaus, pulling down ridiculous IPCs. Most of those games involved the US putting lots of boats in the Pacific. Germany is taking Western Russia cash, Japan taking the Eastern, Russia trying desperately to hold on. I have become a fan of KGF. You need to much navy for the US to go after Japan first. I think that you have to funnel troops to Europe to ease German pressure on Russia and allow Russia to build defense or counter attack in the east.

Not sure where if this shouldn’t be a reply here it should go.

Anyway Imperious Leader’s post brings up something we were discussing the other day, and something I get a little confused about. Is there a good resource for finding wargames based on their scope I guess. The A&A minis game while intresting often seems a bit “small” and A&A can seem a bit “big.” Any recommendations for something in the middle? A little more detailed than A&A D-day or Battle of the Bulge will likely be but not Memoir 44. Where you have to have good tactics as well as a broader strategic concept and must manage and plan for future resources.

And any elaboration on the tactical, operational level aspects of wargaming would be appreciated. Is there a good guide to this sort of thing somewhere?

    • RE: Competition

You might want to try the “finding players” forum. Where are you located? And the play by forum section looks intresting, I’m hoping to try that soon.
You might want to send the people you keep beating here for some strategy tips. These guys are knowledgable. I’ve learned much from reading the forums here and am glad to be participating in them.

    • RE: About Caucasus

That is a good point Mr. Saywer, about quality and quantity. I am always looking for the balance of having enough and having quality. I guess it is a left over from all of my time playing Panzer General. I like options and all INF builds while quantity superior don’t leave as many options to my thinking.

    • RE: Curious Strategy was my downfall…..

I just make my stand at St. Lo. I head my Axis forces there as soon as I can. I try to keep a full stack in St. Lo and keep reinforcements ready to replace the casualties. Hopefully from zones without Allied FTRs.

    • RE: Are fighters as mean as they seem?

Your 88’s are not going to be as deadly as planes. The planes get to shoot at each piece that comes into a reinforcement zone or any zone they are patrolling. They also get to shoot at each piece that tries to move out of any zone they are patrolling. So your planes get a swing at the 88’s before they are even on the board. And each plane gets a swing at each piece. You only get one swing per 88 no matter how many planes are in its zone.

The FTRs and BMBs do not get to retreat back to the Airfields before the Axix gets a chance to roll Antiair. I don’t have the cards in front of me either but I’m pretty sure the Axis gets AA for Bombers and fighters.

The only games that I have played that have even been close to Allied victory the FTRs seemed to never miss. You have to get 88’s into your reinforcement zones to have a chance at the FTRs but not going after those zones with the FTRs is a huge mistake even with 88’s in them. With some players the 88’s will keep them from putting FTRs in those zones but they get over that pretty quick.

    • RE: Strategic Withdrawal for Germany

You would be fundamentally changing the set up of the game. Also all of those German forces in my limited experience can’t be attacked effectively at once. Two out of the first three games I played as Allies I didn’t hit West Russia hard enough and had all kinds of problems because of it. I played a game once where someone left that fleet at Pearl untouched. I did a dance. Same as the time the dice were nice and the China FTR lived thru J1.
I’m with ncscswitch, as Germany please please save them, as Allies I to want them DRT!

I would agree it is kinda of a pain in Pacific to set up all those Allied forces only to put them right back in their tray.

    • RE: Alcohol in the Military?

A person’s permission to drink alcohol should be based on their ability to behave in a civil and responsible manner after having drank alcohol. The trouble is that is not a practical way to decide matters for a populace. I recently watched Mrs. Henderson Presents, “If we are to ask these young men to sacrifice their lives it is wrong to ask them to sacrifice joy as well.”

So yes active duty Military personal under 21 should be allowed alcohol subject to the same restrictions and rules as those over 21.
