I played a ten VC game that went about 7 hours. 8 VCs is too quick. I read on the Smorey Swamp website where they do 9 VCs but that is for the tournies they run which are 4 hour time limits. I personally would like a ten VC game to be done in about 4 hours by some other rules than play faster.
But my games have been going min 6 hours on 10 VCs.

RE: Can the US have naval superiority?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I don’t know, all out to me against Japan means you can threaten a landing on the home island or in FIC that has a chance to succeed and stay there and be reinforced before the Japanese have moved enough stuff to attempt an attack on Moscow. How many TRNs and INF and FTRs and ARM and RTL is that? You need a lot of navy, :-o to KJF.

RE: Worth it?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I like going after the Jap sub with the UK sub. If you get it and survive yourself you might do some harrassing of TRNs or maybe divert a FTR from a land battle or other Naval battle. Also if you sink it there is one less unit going after the US “fleet” at Hawii. “Every little bit helps” said the old man who peed into the sea. Those ships usually go down but you want to give them a chance to fire back.

RE: Can the US have naval superiority?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
My personal philosophy as the US is to stay out of the Pacific. Garrison the West Coast but you can’t buy enough Navy fast enough to compete with what Japan has on the board. Especially if the Japan player is willing to trade it or make you fight on his terms. I don’t feel that you can get enough Warships and troops and troop ships to appreciable affect the war with a Pacific fleet. I have been having more succes concentrating on Germany. We’ll see how my current game turns out as I exercise this philosophy again.

RE: Game Forum Discussionposted in Find Online Players
I was wondering if maybe an FAQ on the site home page might be in order? One place where you can go for answers to questions such as:
Do people play online?
How do I start a game?
What do I need to play a game online? Where do I get that stuff? How do I install it?
What ruleset is used?
How do you roll dice?
How do you find an opponent?I’m not saying the information isn’t on the boards but you do have to sort it out a bit. The sticky threads on this board are very helpful but maybe not as concise and effiecient as they could be. A more focused and thought out set of the conventions that should be used and followed would probably benefit everyone.
Perhaps the “Active Player” list could have a “available for game column.” If you are looking for a game you check the list and private message someone who is available and ask for a game.

RE: Is 6 ipc's enough?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Well I was already leaning to this but the site champion saying he doesn’t put his bid troops in Libya has pretty much locked it for me
I hate to ask this, since I don’t have much experience in revised, but what’s the point in Attacking Egypt?
There isn’t one.
Africa is a distraction. Get to Moscow.
I am starting to think it is mostly that the troops are there and I can claim all this UK territroy and “I hate to leave FTRs just sit when I can kill 'em” and this TRN isn’t doing anything, afterall it is only a ARM and an INF to get a WHOLE CONTINENT. And stuff like that. Or maybe a “How can you win if you don’t capture all the enemy territories?” attitude?
Axiom 5 “Stay on target. Pick a goal and stick to it.” The Axis goal Moscow.

RE: Is 6 ipc's enough?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I have never played Axis with a bid but I was wondering where on the Eastern front troops should go. Moscow is where you have to get no matter how great your desire for Africa cash.
Why Belo and not UKR or EEU? I know West Russia is out cause Russia can hit it hard.
I need to take some time and move out a few of your games.

And while Germany’s generous donation to the limey cause helped :-) the Brits were never really strapped for cash.

RE: Is 6 ipc's enough?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I’m still not convinved any bid is needed. The toss up nature of the EGY battle is pretty much the tipping point. I need to review more of the forum games but it seems to me it is uphill for whoever loses that one. Especially since it seems any bid troops end up in Libya. How often do bid troops go somewhere other than Libya?

RE: How would you deal with this Russian Navy?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I will concede that it is not “always” a bad idea for Russia to build a Navy. It is very rare that it isn’t.
-
RE: How would you deal with this Russian Navy?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
The other way I would deal with it in a friendly game is to ask if the Russian player was sure he really wanted to do that. I would ask again in my best “do you understand how very bad an idea that is” tone. This thing falls under the 6th and 7th Axioms “Be more concerned with the certain paths to defeat than the uncertain paths to victory.” and “Don’t do anything stupid.” Navy for Russia stupid and a certain path to defeat. Frankly I’d trade the sub in setup for two INF.

The IC belongs to whoever controls the territory doesn’t it?

I’ve always read a Western Mexico and Eastern Mexico\Panama split though it is only called Panama.

Whoever controls the territory controls the gun. I think. :?

RE: How would you deal with this Russian Navy?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Do a little dance because an AC and a sub :-o are much easier to kill in the march on Moscow than eight INF!!!

RE: 2nd turn attack on U.K. - How do you counter this?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
What jsp said.
I like the Navy myself or 6 INF and 1 FTR for UK. US build should be TRNs and troops for possible liberation of UK. If Russia is working the West Russia stack maybe a push in the south and prep for Germany to try and land in Karelia instead of going for UK.
The Navy is prefarable to me because it will be 2 ARM, 2 INF, 1 RTL and 1 BMR for UK and 2 INF 1 RTL and 1 ARM 1 BMR and 1 FTR from US against the 4 INF and 4 ARM and whatever FTRs he doesn’t send against your fleet. With the fleet he will have to divert some airpower to win the sea battle weakening the landing force to almost even. In the case he does beat your Navy and gets to land give up the US and UK BMRs as the first hits. The Bombers are cheaper than a turn of the UK not buying units. You also want to make sure you kill as much as possible to ease the US liberation if necessary.
If you are playing a KGF strat this only hiccups you with the 12 spent on the DES. It may even speed things up by bringing the Luftwafe to a quick end. With the fleet and build up in UK Germany should be detered.

RE: Rules Clarificationposted in Player Help
If the UK player does not move his BB during combat movement he is forced into combat with the sub. He is free to move it and avoid combat with the sub. He may move it to another enemy occupied sea zone to begin combat, a freindly sea zone or an empty sea zone.
You described the only situation where you can have opposing units in the same space at the end of turn.
If the UK BB stays and combats the sub and misses and the sub submerges then on the sub’s owner’s turn the sub is in the same situation as the BB ship was. It must move away or stay and fight the BB. Hope that helps.

jsp4563 that is an excellent set and I will be adopting number one as one of my own axioms. Perhaps this should have its own thread?
