    • RE: For anyone curious…

      @ncscswitch:

      The good news is that the only licensed TSDF in the region is now MY COMPANY :-)

      Of course the bad news is that for MONTHS we are going to not have 2 visits per month from DEHNR and EPA to inspect us, but probably 2 per WEEK (or more).

      I guess even clouds of noxious gas have a silver lining. Sorta.  :-)

    • RE: List of standard acronyms…noob confused by IPC, IC, FIG, KJF, etc...

      I’ll take a shot.

      IPC is Industrial Production Certificate. That’s the monopoly money in the set you use to purchase units. Units are built in territories with an
      IC Industrial Complex
      KJF is Kill Japan First a strategy where the Allies attempt to take Japan out of the game before taking out Germany
      KGF is Kill Germany First
      SBR is Strategic Bombing Run

      Most of the others are just short hand for units or territories.
      INF– Infantry
      ART or RTL– Artillery
      ARM– Tanks  or Armor (as called in classic)
      SS or SUB– Submarines
      TRN–Transport
      FIG or FTR –Fighter
      DD or DES – Destroyer
      BB – Battleship
      BOM or BMR- Bomber
      AA – Anti-Aircraft
      WUS–Western United States, KAR-- Karelia, CAU-- Caucauses and so on.

      As you play some games and get familiar with the rules it will be second nature to you before you know it. Especially if you start playing by forum.

      ANYBODY GOT SOME GOOD STRATEGIES
      OTHER THAN A FOUR MOVE CHECKMATE

      Nothing I didn’t read out of the copious books on the game at the local library. My chess game is pretty rusty.

      By the by, please don’t SHOUT.  :-) 8-)

      @The:

      @ncscswitch:

      Just another false clue for the unbeliever :-P

      Or, perhaps THIS spin…

      All those scientists aid taht soft tissue could NEVER survive tens of millions of years.  The fact taht tey found Dinosaur soft tissue is PROOF that the scientists were wrong, and that dinosaurs are from only thousands of eyars ago  not tens of millions.

      (how is that for Devil’s Advocate?   :evil:

                          Ah but the _rocks_  that the fossils are found _in_  are millions of years old,so we are still safe from the creation myth

      It seems likely the unbelievers will only lock on to the fact that scientists make mistakes. They will miss that the new information wil garner new questions and re-examination of other evidence. I imagine that there are lots and lots of fossils getting new MRIs or Catscans or whatever to see if they should break em open. And who knows what might be found then?

    • RE: Newbie Experiences!

      @trihero:

      First game, we allowed armor(edit- all units for that matter) to attack ships off shore.

      You win.

      I concur, that is up there.

      I never had problems like any of those. I had actually played a counters and hexes war game (an intro one) prior to my first game of A&A. A&A seemed comparitively simple. Between the battle board and the cards it almost explains itself. But then I read the rule book. They gave me US and the rules and said “Read this and pay attention. You should be okay when we get to you.”

      Now it took some time to gain competency with all the rules and playing well. Could still use some more competency at playing well.

    • RE: Cool new picture of mars landscape

      A postcard from another planet. Why does that make me give a little shudder of “It’s Christmas Eve” type excitement?

      And it isn’t magic. We (Okay NASA and co) just decided to do it and did it. Just did the work. I hope I’m around the day a Human walks on Mars.

    • RE: Yet Another Debate Thread! The Designated Hitter…

      Against.

      Everyone should hit. You take away from the pitchers who learn bunting. You lose the strategy of dealing with the weak part of the lineup if the game is close i.e. a pitcher is throwing good do you yank him for a hitter or give up the out and look for the runs from somewhere else?

      Also for what they get paid some hitting should be part of your job. No one has problems adding duties I’m not that great at to my job and I make a lot less. No reason a pitcher shouldn’t have time to work on his bunting at least.

      Well they are at least getting closer to telling us about the game. I look forward to the next installment in that series. It is always good to hear it from the designer’s mouth/pen/keyboard.

    • RE: Spanish

      @Jermofoot:

      But languages are VERY interesting.  Thinking about learning Japanese.

      I think it would be to anyones benefit to be multilingual. We had some problems recently with engineering drawings from Japan where I work. The planning department was only half joking when they complained that it was engineering’s (my dept.) job to learn Japanese and to read Japanese characters. They were only half joking when they said the same thing about some German, French, Spanish and Italian drawings. I wasn’t joking when I asked if it would pay more.

      I have often read things like language is the key to understanding people, the one thing you can’t hide is your use of language. If we found an answer to why nouns have gender I’m sure we would have a new insight into those whose native language is Spanish or French or…

      I want the game. I suppose too much information might make me not want it. That being said, more information might make me more excited and motivate me to encourage others who might be on the fence to want it.

    • RE: Strategic Bombing With Germany

      I don’t very often. I like that bomber in on whatever battle I feel a desire to put some overkill on. Mine also seems to get shot down by AA a lot (okay seems like a lot) and you need aircraft on the Eastern Front.

    • RE: Please help with english problem

      Yes, in this context it is meant in regard to emotions. I venture that the singer is feeling “dead inside.” Dead in a sense of feeling no joy, or happiness or anger.

      It isn’t meant in any sense of bleeding.

    • RE: Please help with english problem

      I’m not familiar with the tune but I would take “bid my blood to run” as hope for recovery from something shocking, or painful, or frightening. Those sorts of things are sometimes refered to as “chill the blood,” “make the blood run cold” “stopping the heart.” Also perhaps as a request for emotions to return. Passion is sometimes spoke of as “his blood runs hot.”

      With more context I could venture a more precise guess. My answer is along the same lines of Jermofoot’s. I would concur with the possibility of meaning it as bleeding. Perhaps attempting suicide or intentionally injuring yourself?
