      @Young:

      Will the next 300 be worth a theater ticket?

      I doubt it as well. Just another trip to the well. Sparta/Greece was already an “empire” at the time of the original movie that’s why Xerxes wanted it.

      Although if the token tough feminist in a male dominated world gets disembowled/decapitated or otherwise illustrates why wars are fought by men it might but I’m pretty sure the feminist pandering will grate on everybody interested in the film. She is already grating on me and I’ve only seen previews. I won’t be buying a ticket. Rental/Netflix/Bargain bin if the reviews say it “didn’t suck.”

      @Uncrustable:

      So you already have an opinion on a movie that youve never watched ? :P
      Seems legit…

      That’s the point of all the marketing. So we get an opinion of the movie. “It’s going to be awesome I want to spend money to see that!” is the preferred opinion. I don’t see any reason why, “That doesn’t look very good” is somehow an illegitimate one.

      Looks like MALCOMS Dad is dealing with Godzilla this time and not Matthew Broderick, (pfeuww)
      I think we got a chance to see something decent here then… :-)

      At least they seem to know what the hell Godzilla is supposed to look like. They aren’t giving us that stupid igaunazilla/velociraptor/we’ve no idea who Godzilla is thing, so, we’re already getting something miles better than that movie.

      I really liked the idea that the A-bomb tests weren’t tests but attempts to kill Godzilla. It looks far superior to Pacific Rim. Actually looks like a whole feature of what I wanted the first half hour of Pacific Rim to be.

      @frimmel:

      I hope to get to this as well. “Ocean’s 11” meets “Kelley’s Heroes?”

      It wasn’t this but it was an enjoyable film. It was a rather nice change of pace to the CGI-fest, shaky cam, jump cut, whip pan style usually the norm these days. There wasn’t an edit every second and a half. Much more a bio-pic sort of thing than a caper or war movie. Probably a “girlfriend friendly” WWII story.

      I caught “The Monuments Men” on Saturday and for anybody going thinking they’ll be seeing “Kelley’s Heroes” meets “Ocean’s Eleven” is not going to the correct movie. It was still enjoyable but it is a much quieter more bio-pic style movie. But it isn’t an action movie.

      “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” coming in 2014… Can’t wait!

      That and the new Captain America are my big must sees so far for the year. Will probably try to catch “The Monuments Men” this weekend.

      Aren’t there already laws for this? Isn’t criminal negligence versus an accident determined on a case by case basis? Under different guidelines depending on where you are of course but guidelines used by a jury presented evidence one way or the other.

      @wheatbeer:

      Does anyone here view either faith or atheism as a choice? (this is a serious question and not merely rhetorical)

      I certainly view it has a choice. The greatest predictor of what religion a child will follow when it grows up is which one its parents followed. Even amongst the believers everyone has a different vision of what or who God is. That suggests to me it is most certainly a choice.

      Most adherents of islam never got a choice.
      It is the only faith they ever knew until adulthood, at which time fear keeps them from leaving.
      Most who choose outside that faith are quickly and violently killed, reinforcing such fear.

      Sure they can choose another faith. They can’t choose to tell anyone about it or openly show it. As I pointed out earlier what people believe and what they say they believe aren’t always the same. If you are a theist of some sort wouldn’t the existence of free will suggest gods want you to choose having faith?

      @ABWorsham:

      Can’t go wrong with Joe Cool. I love his last years at Kansas City.

      I always think of that Monday night game between the Cheifs and Broncos where Montana and Elway seemed to keep one upping each other. Back and forth, back and forth. Frelling clinic by both of 'em.

      You own a NFL team. The team is down by 5 points with 90 yards between you and a championship. There is two minutes on the clock.

      If you could have any NFL QB past or present who do you pick?

      As much as it pains me to say it, Joe Montana.

      I haven’t thought about it that much, but a cursory thought on it makes me think a lot of that was having the greatest wide receiver to play the game.  I’m sure Montana was good, but it’s kind of clouded because of that.

      Sure but Rice is also going to have benefited from Montana.

      I’d be willing to give the ball to any guy on this list: http://espn.go.com/nfl/history/leaders/_/stat/tdpasses

      @General:

      I’d go with an in-his-prime Elway, his scrambling ability would be important. Second choice would be Montana.

      For current players I’d go with Rodgers for the same reason. Great arm and escapability.

      Can’t really argue against Elway. Or any QB on this list: http://espn.go.com/nfl/superbowl/history/mvps

      But if we go with guys showing up more than once, Montana is the clear choice with Starr, Bradshaw, and Brady following closest behind. The only guys I think you could consider who don’t show up on this list would be Unitas, Tarkenton, Marino.

      How will the world react to the hundredth anniversary of WWI?

      Indifferently aside from the crowd that ends up here. There will be a burst of new books on the war and lead up published and maybe a newspaper article or two but few will notice.

      Honestly George Lucas made Star Wars childish long ago (Clones vs Robots, The Clone Wars animated series in general, Asoka)
      If anything Disney might inject some more mature themes into Star Wars (Lets just hope so  :-P)

      Well the Clone Wars series is in fact for children but for the most part it is not childish.

      Abrams is a hack. That he is working at all let alone been given the helm of “Star Wars” says very bad things about the movie going public.

      @Mallery29:

      Give me Captain Kirk as Jack Ryan! (in the Shadow Recruit).  It can’t be as bad as the Sum of All Fears….

      Pine is no Kirk.
