      I can’t argue that other than “Sith” the prequels are “good” movies but they are by no means travesties of cinema. They each have some pretty neat stuff in them despite maybe not overall “working.” I think at this point the pile on is just habit and not wanting to seem “uncool.” Like you’d be one of “those” fans instead of one of the cool nerds.

      The example I use is “Temple of Doom.” It has some problems but the chief problem is it isn’t “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and this causes its problems to be unfairly magnified.

      JJ is good at hype but he isn’t a good filmmaker and I think folks turn a blind eye to the mediocrity he churns out to justify buying into the hype. I think JJ is among those responsible for movies not needing to be good anymore as long as you can create enough hype. He’s a much better marketer than film-maker. (Marketer= makes an eskimo want to pay for snow.)

      JJ stole one of the worst sequences from the Star Wars prequels for Trek (09) but I keep coming across those who vehemently hate the prequels but love the lens flared mess of JJ Trek.

      Everyone will be so excited to see Han shoot first (mark it down, at some point Han will shoot before the other guy gets a chance) they’ll be willing to overlook the other mediocrity he’ll shovel at us.

      The Old, new Star Wars crew.
      What you think??

      There’s some good actors there but JJ is directing it and writing it. No enthusiasm whatsoever. Too much riding on this for it to be anything but barely watchable “product cinema” overly influenced by focus group derived fan service “moments” at best with shaky cam and lens flare.

      My hope is everyone will finally see Abrams for the hack he is.

    • RE: Question about new ac's and existing fighters

      @pfc_pander:

      Is there anyway you are allowed to land an existing fighter onto a newly purchased aircraft carrier before you turn is over or do you have to wait until your next turn to fly the fighter to the carrier?  I though you might be able to move your fighter during non-com to the sea zone that the carrier will be built in but wasn’t sure if that’s allowed.  Thanks.

      Which game are you playing? The rule varies. Some versions allow fly to the zone where the new AC will be placed and you can land on it. Some do not.

    • RE: ILs larger map

      The OOB Hexes are 1.5" per side.

      Total size of OOB board is 20.25" x 30" the playing area inside the margins is 18.5" x 28.5"

      @Rammstein:

      frimmel,

      You are right, but the thing about Bulge is using those hex pieces that make the front line. Otherwise size would not be an issue.

      Sadly, I sold my copy of BOB years ago, and I don’t have access to a board atm. I will buy my friend’s copy once I have this map. But I need to print this out soon! I’m in a different city.

      If you could literally physically measure out the board, that would be awesome. Exact hex size would be helpful too. I have tried googling this to no avail.

      Time is a bit of a factor for me.

      Thanks!

      Forgot about the front line markers.

      @Imperious:

      he’s not talking about OOB map, he’s talking about my larger map file.

      Ummm…

      @Rammstein:

      Can anyone tell me what the map dimensions are for IL’s BOB variant map are?

      Also, what are the OOB map dimensions? I can’t for the life of me find it anywhere. I also don’t own Bulge anymore, I will buy a friend’s copy, but I want to print IL’s variant map and I need to know how large to do it.

      Thanks!

    • RE: ILs larger map

      @Rammstein:

      I don’t need a file. I need to know the exact size of the board in real life so I can print it out correctly.

      Can’t you just print out at your prefered size? Isn’t that kind of the point of a custom map in a computer file?

      If I remember, I’ll measure the OOB board for you and post it this evening but it is aprox. the same size as the “Revised” board or the “D-Day” board.

      BGG is saying the size which I assume to be the box is 15.5 x 10.5. It is four of those sized sections so aprox. 31"x21" referencing this photo: http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1231898/axis-allies-battle-of-the-bulge

    • RE: MOVIE'S 2014

      Megan Fox is one of the few actors whose off screen opinions/actions have soured me to her work. She has to be one of the least attractive beautiful women in the movies.

      Cap: Winter Soldier was pretty good. The ending is a bit of a mess and there’s too much shaky cam that almost ruins some great fights (making the shaky cam even more frustrating) plus some why the frell is there shaky cam here crap. First movie in a while that has been so drug down for me from a technical aspect instead of a bad writing one. But the writers and Evans seem to get Cap and I really liked the story.

      Easily a top 5 movie of the 9 “Avengers” films (a personal top 3 favorite of that group) arguably a top ten comic movie ever and probably an inarguable top ten since “Blade” in 1998 despite my problems with the tech. Some of the action is fist pumping spectacular even with the shaky cam.

      If Winter Soldier was something you thought looked cool it will be worth the ticket.

    • RE: Older Television Series on Netflix

      @wittmann:

      @Flashman:

      Personally, I prefer to have the physical box sets. I like to have them sitting on my shelf to watch whenever I want.

      Just finished Game of Thrones series 3, next will probably be Vikings - anyone seen this online?

      We have 1 episode of the 3rd series to go.
      Not seen Vikings.

      I caught the first season of “Vikings” as it aired. The second season is clogging up the DVR. I can’t say “don’t watch it” but neither can I give a blanket check it out. It certainly had some moments but over a month in and I haven’t watched an episode of the new season.

      Now, “The Americans” that I can say watch.

    • RE: Where is Flight 370?

      @ABWorsham:

      How much longer will this mysterious disappeared plane remain lost?
      Weeks? Months? Years?

      It took almost seventy-five years to find the Titanic and there were three guesstimates for the location from the lost ship and other vessels in the area.

      They’re still not certain they’ve found Amelia Earhart.

      If that aircraft went down over the ocean it could be decades quite easily.

      I’m not really sure what you mean by “blonde” UK units but it is not unheard of for the color of pieces to change from initial production to going out of print.

      “Seinfeld” always goes like this for me: Berated for not watching “Seinfeld.” Watch an episode. Find it funny. Why don’t I watch more of this? Watch another episode. Hate everything about all the people in it and find nothing funny about it. I guess that’s why I don’t watch more of 'em.

      Luckily it only took me three times before I quit.

      Napolean’s army was starving before they even made it to Russia. Moscow is essentially in the middle of the desert for an army that must forage.

      @Young:

      What I find really interesting is when Leonard asks “are we playing individual or teams?” which suggests that these actors don’t know the game at all, or they have some kind of interesting house rule.

      It suggests neither the writers, nor the actors know the game. My guess is props gets sent a lot of geek stuff to use to decorate the set and the script called for playing a game that was either individual or team and A&A was close enough.

      I’d certainly accept that theory, but could it possibly be for comedic effect?  An in-joke perhaps?

      The joke would be “going to war” since that is what ends up happening, metaphorically, to Sheldon and Howard. Or representative of being at war.

      Maybe the set had been on the shelves in the comic shop set for a couple of seasons now but was just unnoticed because it is background/off camera? Some props gopher/intern/lackey went to the game shop the day before and said, “I need a wargame?”

      An A&A cameo… is it a first?

      No. D-Day  had a cameo on NCIS (the original with Harmon.) Ducky and Palmer had the set in the morgue as part of profiling a suspect.

      I’m out to sea right now, so I’m only going off what my wife told me, but I guess they were playing A&A on the latest episode of Big Bang Theory….can’t wait to see it when I get back!

      This is correct. On the episode new airing March 06, 2014 they had A&A laid out on the coffee table central to the set. I think this is the '42?
