In August, I topped up my $15 bronze with another $45, hoping to upgrade to gold. I have emailed and subsequently sent a DM to Dave, I assume he has been busy.

    • RE: Favorite Attack Spots for Allies?

@tincanofthesea Like you say, it is highly situational.

However, my preference is for Normandy, if I can make it stick (no point if Germany can counter attack successfully). It can be continually reinforced through the Channel and draws Germany into a big second front so helping Russia whcih is the main goal.

If I’m short on reinforcements but long on time then Norway is a nice option, hard for Germany to counter attack and the US can drop an mIC on there and maybe Finland too for building up forces directly in Europe.

S.Italy is good if a VC is needed quickly and Italy hasn’t been able to build up too many trooops there, but I find I get get bottled up there by the Germans easily or at least struggle to breakout (with N.Italy becoming a deadzone).

Obviously a snekay UK taking Germany after the US opens up the Danish strait is always something to look out for and threatening it does keep the Germans honest with having to defend Denamrk or Germany.

For the Pacific, the Caroline Islands are nice if you can get them as from there you can threaten landing everywhere from FIC up to Japan. It can also be attacked from a lot of places to so have to watch out it isn’t an ambush…

    • RE: Where is the Search Button

@barnee The width of your browser window is too narrow. Try increasing the width and se if they return.

Once you get below a certain width the arrangement of the web page changes. The buttons on the left of the header get rolled into a menu icon in the top left. The buttons on the top right (as far as I can tell) just disappear.

You could check out the league we have on this website - https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/category/29/league

A wide range of players, from the elite to the cannon fodder. As simply as posting a request for a game here to get started - https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/30809/find-league-opponents-thread/1154

There are three TripleA maps played in the league:

      • World War II Global 1940 2nd Edition (standard, out of the box rules)
      • World War II Global 1940 Balanced Mod3 (https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/27451/g40-balance-mod-rules-and-download)
      • WW2 Path to Victory (https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/35323/ww2-path-to-victory-rules-discussion)

The games are competitive but friendly and full of advice and dicussions on tactics, as well as regularly updated standings and end-of-year playoffs. If you fancy playing any of those games then it is the place to do it. Send me a chat message if you want help getting involved, I’m not a high ranked player but happy to give you a game to get you started.

F__K YOU MARTI !!! (and no, I’m not crying, my eyes are just sweaty…)

Pro Tip: Have a towel handy when playing A&A, use it to muffle the screams so the neighbours don’t call the police.

    • RE: Current Allied bid for Global 1940

      @ogre1969
I think about 40 seems common, depends on the skill of the Axis player. When I started I was struggling against bids of 20 or less as I didn’t know how to take advantage of the Axis position. There was a game recently between to high quality players where the Allies had +58 and the Axis still won (https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/37850/l22-andrewaagamer-x-vs-karl7-l-58-oob/124).

You could check out the league we have on this website (https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/category/29/league) It has a wide range of players, from the elite to the cannon fodder like myself. It’s as simple as posting a request for a game here to get started (https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/30809/find-league-opponents-thread/1154) you’ll definately find an opponent.

For anyone who is interested, league games played per year are:
      2013 - 581
      2014 - 520
      2015 - 462
      2016 - 648
      2017 - 404
      2018 - 451
      2019 - 367
      2020 - 365
      2021 - 339
      2022 - 218+

So collectively we have two days to complete 121 games…

Seems like when Balanced Mod came out in 2016 there was a big rush. I can’t really explain why the games played dropped off so much this year. Some big players have left the league, had enough of A&A?

I did some rough work and using some regular expressions, a torch and two squirrels I churned this out https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eGoPApelFeR90te572XhDGt2Gd9BftgKD5m8z-f3TEw/edit?usp=sharing.

At a glance it looks like there were around 75 games lost from players who played last year but not this year, and for those of us playing this year we are down about 50 games from last year.

I personally got a bit grumpy about the Paris liberation disincentive, and worse (IMO) the incentive to leave Normandy French. Although I am not sure if others got so irritated by this other than Gargantua.

I think that grumpy is a good default mode to be in.

Absolutely, taking advantage of opponent mistakes is a key part of the game, and you set yourself up well with a powerful invasion of Norway. You gave me too much to think about! Well played and good luck in the next round.

      @Amon-Sul
I’ve used 2.6 a little and I like the warning it gives why making combat moves into a territory that the enemy could scramble to. Also, when you hover over a territory it shows the units in the status bar (which is a quick way to see what is in crowded territories).

Other nice things from the change log that look good:

      • Can scroll map when prompts are visible
      • Units with less movement are killed first
      • Remaining movement of air untis displayed when picking casualties
      • No retreat symbol when picking casualties

When setting up a game, I’d suggest checking with the opponent what major version of TripleA is to be used. I’m not sure about the backward / forward compatibilty of 2.6 with 2.5, but you can have both installed on the same machine, just have to make sure to load the right one.

Any one using the Post to Forum function in 2.6? Is it working well?

Thanks, but I have no idea how that happened.
I suppose - with enough help from MARTI - every dog can have his day!

I believe that the extra scramble options in PtV from both carriers and airbases - including the possibility to defend you blockers - adds a lot of nice possibilities to an already great game.

Yeah. The carrier scamble gives a nice alternative to the usual OOB/BM fleet positioning, with the possibility of multple smaller fleets supporting each other and providing air cover for blockers. Makes a nice change to those mid/late game doom stacks.

Also, the Pacific sea zones are very different, with key islands often be sited on the boundary of sea zones rather than within one, which does affect how these key points are contested.

    • RE: 👋 Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Current)

A big hello from here in England to everybody.

Used to play a lot of Risk with my friends when we were younger, one of whom would try to talk us into playing a game called Axis and Allies but we always just stuck to Risk. Can’t remember why, but about 10 years ago I downloaded TripleA and played 2 or 3 games over email at TripleA War Club (which seems to have gone now). Enjoyed it, but for whatever reason left it at that.

It popped back into my head again recently and I thought it might fit in well amongst family commitments and flexible working (I’ve always been a sucker for a good strategy game). Got TripleA again, found this site, and I’m now playing a few games (mostly Global 40 2nd Ed) on these forums and thoroughly enjoying it. A lot to learn, but I’ve found this community to be very helpful and these forums easy to use and a great resource.

As an inexperienced player, it’s been really interesting tracking this debate and hearing about different players’ thoughts on what to do with the UK and Italy in the Med. Whilst there are bigger battles going on in other theatres, control of this theatre does feel like it is critical to how the mid/late game goes on the Europe board.

    • RE: [Global 1940] Proposed House Rule: Restricted Builds

@nishav Sounds good to me, especially if it makes the game played more in the way everyone wants. There is this rule in the Path to Victory ruleset:
Capital Ships: Battleships and carriers may only be built from territories that have both factories and harbours.
So would seem like a lot of players agree it’s a good idea.

In TripleA, it is the map called World War II Global 1940 Balance Mod3
