    • RE: Starting IPC values?

      @Krieghund:

      1941: Germany - 31; Italy - 10; Japan - 17; USA - 40; UK - 43; USSR - 30

      You can probably figure out roughly what the '42 numbers are from there.  :wink:

      WHAT? UK outproducing the USA? What am I missing?

      USA -4 ipc from China income(revised). Plus in AA50 the Phillipines are probably worth 3, which they lose on 1st turn. This gets them down to 37.

      The ratios seem right I suppose(for playability/balance), but I don’t understand UK so high. Again, what am I missing?

    • Starting IPC values?

      Krieghund, since you seem to be the only one with concrete answers, could you give us the values for each scenerio?
      1941 seems to be Germany 30, italy 10, Russia 30, Japan 17, but USA and UK are fuzzy.

    • RE: National objectives

      I think it’s time Krieghund gave us a few solid national objectives we don’t have. Please….

    • RE: Play balance in AA50 / Bids

      I think the national objectives will be easier for the axis to get in the first couple rounds and not so easy to get for the allies. Getting this extra income earlier than the allies will essentially be the axis bid. The game at the end of round 2 will be up for grabs.

      Even though I haven’t seen all the objectives the ones that give 10 ipc bonuses seem too much(time will tell). If there’s one area of the game that could be changed with house rules it’s the reward. We could reduce the bonuses by half so the game is not completely tilted if you get your objectives but more like a big nudge in the right direction. Or maybe they are fine as is :-D

    • RE: Unit cost and overview

      Way back in 1990 we basically used the same price system

      Transports and subs were 7
      BB were 20
      Carriers were 15 I think
      Bombers were 12 and fighters were 10

      I’m getting a lawyer.

    • RE: Techs

      CAP is way overpowered IMO. You have to come big with escorts and Bombers to do damage worthwhile. Most likely you are going to lose more ipcs than you would take away during a SBR.

      With CAP you won’t be bombing Germany if you are bringing 2 fighters and 1 bomber vs 2 fighters and AA gun, that’s suicide. CAP is worst rule out there. I consider the AA gun as AA gun + fighters on patrol. 1/6 chance to shoot down a plane is quite high already.

      Now you got Germany able to only take 20ipc of damage each turn….this lessens the affect of HB and you got your own tech that counters HB. I don’t see a problem.

    • RE: Techs

      @Romulus:

      I do not like the rando tech rule in Classic. I like more the way tech improvemente are handled in Revised: you select what are looking for. There are the problem that you may “waste” IPC if not rolling the requested value.

      I like it because during war a nation does not just research 1 special weapon at a time. There are multiple projects going on, so who is to say which one is going to hit gold first? The randomness of it is more real to life.

      If I had my way the weapons development would be built into an event card system. I believe no one should have to invest ipcs into research because I think it should be assumed that the research is always going on and your ipcs are actually the army/navy/air force budget not the research budget. The event cards would be setup “slightly” to favor Germany and USA over Japan and Russia. Something like a 1/4 chance as compared to 1/5.

    • RE: China as a new sub-player

      @Krieghund:

      Chinese and US units may not attack together, but there’s nothing preventing Allied units in China.

      This rule doesn’t make alot of sense to me. The US and China go on the same turn, why can’t they attack together? Especially sense US units can be in Chinese territories. It might make sense if no allied units were allowed in China. Can you tell us more about this?

      Can anyone confirm or deny that CAP or bomber escorts are in the game? I’d rather not see either.

      @Krieghund:

      Most bonuses apply if any member of your alliance holds the required territories.

      Did you go to Gen Con? You seem to have alot of concrete answers(the one above is good and makes sense)

    • RE: China as a new sub-player

      I can’t imagine that Allied units cannot go into China, or that the US and China can’t attack together.

      What if China liberates Hong Kong? Does that territory go back to UK and it’s income? Or does that go to China and just count as 1 more territory? It looked like all Chinese territories count as 1 ipc(7). So if they take Hong Kong (worth 2?) do they just get 1 extra infantry?

      I would kill for a copy of the rule book.

      I agree that some form of Heavy Tank Tech should be in the game. Does anyone remember that was there?

    • RE: Think K[G/J/I]F is over?

      I don’t think KIF is that great. Germany has Italys back. The USA is far away and will be exposed if it sends it’s navy into the Med. The UK also has to get into the Med to threaten Italy. Germany’s planes will be a huge deterent. Like you say Russia is the only real threat to Italy and germany is right there. I say the game should be very balanced.

      The only thing that concerns me is the fact that Germany must defend 2 coastal territories (France, Northwestern Europe) against the DDay invasion. In Revised you could stockpile enough units in WEurope to deter the DDAY invasion for at least 3-4 turns(which was perfectly historical). Now you will be dividing your units in half to deter DDay between the 2 territories. You could probably invade 1 territory with England on turn 2 if England buys correctly on Turn 1. Thoughts?

    • RE: First pics from GenCon

      I can’t see the name of the territory to the north of France. But now Germany must stockpile to defend Normandy and Belgium now. Not sure I like that. It will be very hard to defend DDay when your forces are divided on the coast like that. I would have rather seen the entire coastline of Western Europe be 1 territory then another territory between that and Germany.

    • RE: First pics from GenCon

      Looks like all the Chinese territories are worth 1 ipc apiece. This is different than AAP where there were only a couple territories worth anything. I guess this will boost the weak economy of Japan. It won’t be a complete waste of time to swat the Chinese off their back. All this income is going to the USA at the start or what?

      Another thing I noticed was that Africa didn’t change. I think i see 1 new territory in Egypt. I was hoping for a few more to simulate the vastness of the continent and make a few of them worth 0 ipcs to also simulate how undeveloped it is. Still seems a little to easy to get to S. Africa

      I said this before, alot of people look at the setup and it seems the Axis is screwed. Old germany divided in half, unable to use the full force of a 40 ipc economy that is now down to 30. But we have to remember The (smart)USA player will not be playing a KGF ever again with the new VCs in Pacific. I wish we knew exact IPC value of each country. USA and UK is unclear from what I have read.

    • RE: Unit abilities

      At BGG a guy said that he was there and Cruisers bombard during Amphibious assults. Also the rule was if you only had 1 attacking unit(tank, infantry, artillery) that you could only use 1 ship to bombard. If you used 2 units then 2 ships could bombard etc….

    • RE: Please throw us a bone!!!

      So a Pacific war will divert American money towards Japan every game. This will lead to less pressure on Germany and this is what leads to Germany having a “weak” economy(30 IPCs). This will lead to more balanced game than if you were given 40 IPCs as Germany.

      Looks as if they have gone more historical. Except for the bonus stuff.

      Is there a list of the bonus objectives? What do people know from memory.

      Is there anyother incentive for Japan not to attack Russia to make it historical? I would still think some pressure on Russia from Japan is best for Axis.

      @Imperious:

      SBR is gonna be fun and most likely they use the CAP rules from AAP and the fighter escort rules from AAE.

      Airpower is gonna be really critical.

      I really hated escorts, with that rule I just don’t see any advantage to bomb the IC. It’s like trying to have sex with a meat grinder.

      Italy really, really should have been light gray.

      Axis will be real hard to play. Can’t wait though.

      All axis and all allied turn with blockhouses to deter DDay too soon will be tried in my lab.
