You are able to pay for repairs before you decide to buy as far as I know.

RE: Air can't attack subs rule?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I think if the subs decide they want to sink the CC they stay and fight and then the aircraft can hit them because they decided to stay. The destroyer takes away their ability to sneak away so they must stay and fight and are vulnerable to aircraft……I think.

My review 1941posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Map
Borders in do not stand out enough, especially in Europe. Could I go over the borders with a fine white marker to make them jump out to me more?
Territories in Europe need to be 50% bigger. Northwest Europe is a disgrace. You can only fit 2 types of units there. I think they went overboard by a couple territories. This would have left just a bit more room for each remaining territory
Overall the map does look fantastic though
gamelength and NOs
Game seemed to get 50% longer for me and my father-in-law. I think Nos were the reason. ALOT more money circulating(Paulson would be proud) out there now than before. We weren’t aggresively persuing NOs. We just were like glad we got one or 2. We also weren’t purposely trying to do things to deny each other the NOs. We were just playing. Once we get the hang of the NO strategies maybe it will speed up???
Gameplay
Japan is GODZILLA!!! My father-in-law is not very good at this game but yet he really kicked the crap out of me using Japan. I put every dollar in the Pacific with America but I felt lucky to just keep up with the Japs. I think a India IC build is a must for UK(we did not build any in first game). They have to put the pressure on Japan or they will dominate.
Eastern European front was a complete stalemate. Germany kept buying navy so that is the most likely reason. He did some major damage to my fleets with the naval and air attacks. Note to self: 1 warship buy for every transport buy. Having 1 destroyer escort 4 transports is not a good idea. 1 fighter took them all out. We each had a couple of instances where we lost alot of transports to weak attacks like that. I got pissed and started buying a BB every round with UK and USA.
Subs are sweet. The rules(if I understand them) are the best yet. I actually bought 5 subs for USA. Hunting down a fleet with no destroyers was very cool and satisfing. I did not have to play cat and mouse I just went after them, I also did not have to bunch my subs with a fleet for safety since I could not be attacked without a destroyer present.
Game pieces
Italy brown and USSR reddish brown colors are way way way too close. I really cannot believe they went with Brown for Italy. Actually it is pretty stupid.
–-------------------------------------------------------------I know I’ll get blasted for this but I think the NOs are going to need adjustments. Possibly lowering the reward to 3 ipcs(6 ipcs for Russias 10 ipc reward). Reason being there is now too many units on the board and it’s harder to get the advantage on someone. This makes the game longer. Who knows maybe in 4 or 5 games I’ll have different view. I’ll post more if I think of anything.

RE: Anniversary Edition already Obsolete/Superceded?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I have only played appr. 25 games of AAR. With USA I never went after germany directly. I used the bomber for SBR. I would spend 10 IPC usually each round to secure Africa. The rest of my IPCs went into a Pacific war. It was a much better game that way. UK could mostly concentrate on Europe.

RE: Avoid Chinaposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Probably the rule says if China captures an enemy IC that IC is destroyed. This would make it simple. AA guns would be captured.

RE: RUS/GER border - an overview of the changes from 2ndEd, over AAR, to AA50posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I actually thought Eastern Europe was good as 8 territories. We’ll see how 12 goes.

Where to find reference charts?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Well my son has lost some of the reference charts(Russia, England). Where can I find them for download? Thanks….

RE: North-West Europeposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
As far as the Northwest Europe question…. This is bad news for Germany. Two territories to defend against D-Day with constant Russian pressure could be devestating. We will not know until a few games are played but maybe it was setup that way because 1 landing zone gave the Germans an advantage. When you factor in Italy(Germany can forget about africa and let Italy worry about it freeing up a full Russian assault)
and factoring in National objectives (may give a unfair income advantage to Germany early in the game, this extra income almost a requirement to shore up NWE and France?)
and factoring in that the Allies will surely focus on 1 territory only and that Germany will PROBABLY have a counter attack force in place in the other territory may not make it a Huge deal. All I know is that it will be interesting.
Anyone know what the playtesters thought?

RE: North-West Europeposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I still don’t see how this could be playable with Germany swapping territories constantly and USA not. Germany would be too weak to defend itself by round 3-4.

RE: China as a new sub-playerposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
IMO if the fighter is an American squadron then I have no problem using it out of Chinese territory. It is weak by itself though and best used as defending chinese territories.
Off Topic: Just for bragging rights I was a part of the Flying Tigers unit at Pope AFB. 1993-1995. I even got a 1 hour ride in a 2 seater F-16. I miss the Air Force but I don’t miss the pay.

RE: North-West Europeposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
With all the territory swapping that goes on in Europe the game would make Japan and USA VERY powerful. Japan doesn’t have quite as much territory changing hands as Germany and Russia.
Maybe you could fix that by reducing all territories by 1 ipc but increasing capital territories by 10 ipcs.

RE: Techsposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Paratroopers???!!
Give me a break. Terrible.
I’ll just think of a Heavy Tank teck and wipe Paratroopers from my board.
-
RE: Techsposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
It has been said that these 2 Techs are actually 1 tech together.
IC repair- (one IPC removes two points of IC damage)
Improved production- each IC may now produce two more units per turn
If that is so then we are missing 1 tech. What could it be?
Also it was said Radar is on the Naval/air tech card. I would think it would be better suited on the land card. The reason is that Germany would be going for a land tech because of the big land war with Russia. This would be a big help if the Allies acquire HB.

3 player game?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
In a 3 player game, which is what I will be a part of 99% of the time, what would be the optimal nation teams?
Obviously 1 player will have to take 3 nations. The 2nd player will take 2 nations.
Player 1- AXIS
Player 2 -Russia
Player 3- US and UKor
Player 1- Allies
Player 2- Japan/Italy(so Germany and Italy aren’t acting as 1 nation)
Player 3-Germanyor
Player 1-Allies
Player 2- Germany/Italy
Player 3- Japan -

I am starting to think it is the strongest position the axis has ever been. Now if we only knew all the bonuses……

RE: Pre-Orderingposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Preordered mine at CCG Armory. $69.00.
I wonder if there is a possibility of anyone releasing the game before the 23rd?

RE: Starting IPC values?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Compared to AAR China is a big help but it still weak. There seems to be more income on Asian mainland than in revised so there is more income for Japan to conquer. America HAS to fight a 2 front war now. With that info I would give USA 45 starting IPCs(+5 on USA mainland).
Don’t rip me, I understand I have to play it first to critique it. I’m just saying this as an observation. This will still be the best game Larry has put out. -
RE: National objectivesposted in House Rules
Thanks for all the info Krieghund. I believe that the only big unknowns are the National Objectives. If we knew them all it would be all we need to analyze the game. I am sure EVERYONE here will be buying the game regardless so I really don’t see a need to hold back on the rest of the info.
WOTC only seems interested in veterans of AA to buy this game since I don’t see any advertisement or anything. I could put up a cardboard sign on my street lamppost and it would be more of an effort than WOTC does. I LOVE AA games, I started playing Original AA in 1988, and I find it ridiculous that I didn’t find out Revised existed until Christmas 2006. How many more people would love these games if they knew they existed? Probably 90% of the people I asked if they have played or heard of the game had no idea.

RE: Starting IPC values?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Just looked at pics again and it looks like Phillipines is worth 2 ipcs. I wish before they took the pics they would have moved units off the ipc value of each territory.

RE: Starting IPC values?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Borneo (4), East Indies (4), New Guinea (1), Hong Kong (1), Burma (think that’s what it’s called, 2), Anglo Egypt Sudan (separate from Egypt, 1). Total = 13, 30+13=43
In '42, I believe Japan starts with all of those except AES.
OK that makes sense for playability. Obviously Japan pounces on all that pretty quickly. It just freaked me out a little bit when I saw it. Japan with starting units and potential income could be a monster. Seems like an India complex is a requirement. All Chinese territories are worth 1 ipc each, right?
