The advantage of attacking, is choosing the time and the place of the engagment.

88 Mil-the north atlantic is a secondary theater, sacrifices are fact in almost any strategy.

ah gamers bravado! Good to see, game without talk is boring and meaningless I will have to figure out the online part, never done it before. be patient and i will play you for sure. i have looked at some of the games posted and wondered……I do play all my games with seasoned A&A players.
PS Sankt Hallvard the RUS navy JOKE is the most ridiculous purchase I could think of. Don’t take it seriously.

that’s more like it Octo. I expect nothing less from you. do you commonly use “space for rent” strategy on that front?
-
RE: USSR Strategiesposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Dear Octo,
What do think of the above strategy? thoughts? experiences? alternatives? what have you tried in the past? what would you buy as RUS? how have you found ART effecting RUS strategy? do you split or concentrate? do you tit-for-tat with GER or hold and prey? do you make caucasus the focal point of your western front defense? do you screen or stack against JPN?
how do you get moscow to hold against a experienced GER player?

I hope my opponent is trying to win. I don’t play against cardboard pinups.
How would you suggest the allies counter this strat?

USSR Strategiesposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
the only hope i have seen of RUS holding out with a concentrated axis effort is:
totally screen/space for rent, fly in allied fighters. as in original A&A, stack INF. reserve ARM and ART for localised counter attack @ Moscow (better odds). use the only 2 fighters and piecemeal INF for local counter attacks.
wait for a major allied landing in europe. conquer berlin. and build a battleship in the caspian as a tribute to the struggles of socialism.
prey the that GER player does not know what they are doing.thoughts?

by R5 GER can have 25 ARM plus 6 FIG and 20 or so INF, enough to take RUS. A massive stack of tanks will win for GER. That stack of RUS INF will be cut to shreds with 25+ dice rolling at 3 or less. In the revised version it is easier to take RUS than not, the onus is on the GER player. A good stack of tankswill prevent RUS from any type of major offensive action of the eastern front. RUS only starts with 4 ARM in total, totally incapable of anything decisive. GER should not build defensive pieces like INF after R1. INF are for a player hoping for lucky rolling in a defensive death throe.

i look forward to your to post when you are not busy.
maybe russia should put three subs in the caspian sea on R1.
we shall play one day

RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
the six FIG and one BR are more than enough for GER to start with.
I would buy 13 INF on round one. This will give you 20 or so INF for the battle for RUS. Most likely RUS will be able to field 35-42 INF for the battle of Moscow on R5 or so.
R2 R3 R4 R5 TANKS! and nothing but.
I would only start buying other pieces, transports or infantry or subs, depending on how you plan on continuing the war after RUS is knocked out.

I played original for years. The europe one a few times. Revised is a much better game.

ncscswitch- I have played revised at least 20 times (with board). I will check this out.
Thanks!

RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
ncscswitch, we have never bothered with the revised tank rule. we have been playing for 15 years and found tanks defend at 3 to be unjusitified. tanks mobility exceeds any small increase in defensive odds for defense.
can u provide links for online games?

ncscswitch-thanks for the post, i will check out the online tournaments.
I have not seen any of your games.

capital ships for the UK will mean, subs. The cannon fodder/infantry of the sea.
I am aware that the revised rules say tanks defend a 3. Our group has choosen to to disregard this, who would buy infantry if armour defends at 3?
