In 50 years we will have no history. Everything that isn’t PC will be expunged from the record, street names and statues will be erased and replaced, perhaps even the remains of the dead will be exhumed and incinerated if they don’t pass the test. The future is inverted fascism, just as Orwell predicted.

RE: 1914 Rules Rework
In addition to correcting the Poland/Prussia border note that the Greece/Bulgaria border should be different with Bulgaria having an Aegean coastline.
Divide “Karelia” tt with a new “St Petersburg” tt in the South with only a Baltic coastline. Karelia retains the Arctic port.
Switzerland worth 3 and a bigger army.
I give every power a starting fighter in the capital with G & F having an extra fighter in Munich and Lorraine respectively. In addition, fighters built on subsequent turns increase hit roll +1. Starting fighters have no combat value, those built on round one fight at “1” and so forth up to max 4. Just mark each fighter’s strength on the wings. Maximum 2 rounds for air combat, still the higher number of surviving aircraft that decides air superiority. Only the excess may strafe.
SZ 18 enlarged to encompass whole Albanian coast.
Belgian Congo loses coastline and become a “jungle” tt; units attacking it have -1 modifier and cannot apply artillery bonus.
To give CPs more of a chance:
1. Lorraine extended south to border Marseilles; Paris moved to where “Burgundy” is now.
2. Rome extended to have a SZ 18 coastline.
3. Maximum 4 units built in India per turn.
Would anyone ever build units in Canada?
I’m not convinced about UK starting neutral. France only mobilised under the certainty that Britain would join it; Belgium was merely a pretext for Britain to go to war.
Finally, to make the game playable, replace the combat units with colour coded chips, all but the “topping” infantry piece.

RE: Top 10 World War II action films of all time
War and Remembrance got such poor ratings they had to pay compensation to the advertisers. It lost about $40 million.
Won a lot of awards, mind.
I found it thoroughly boring.

RE: People Named After WWI Battles
Ah, yes, the famous battle of “Flashman Ridge” in July 1917.
There’s Brusilov Offensive Stevens down the pub, Tenth Battle of the Isonzo Carruthers at our Bridlington branch, and I know a pair of cats named Hindenburg and Ludendorf.

RE: MOVIES 2017
Haven’t seen it yet, but do they make the point that Hitler effectively allowed the army to escape because he though it would help to end the war? He never really wanted war with Britain and this was a gesture that he didn’t want the British army destroying.
They could have added some comic relief by having King Arthur leading the men towards the beach shouting “Run away! Run away!”.
The performance of the British army in 1940 was as poor as that of the French, but because they were allowed to run away to fight again while the French had to surrender to stop the fighting they don’t have the same lousy reputation as the French.

RE: A Question Of Balance
If playing OOB allow Germany to place new units in Munich.

RE: Hypothetical A&A Situation
The real life Robinson Crusoe snipped the ears of goats he found “the most enjoyable” so he didn’t kill and eat them.

RE: Attila the Hun board game: Yeah or Na?
It really just needs a new version of Conquest of the Empire with barbarians added. The “inflation” mechanic can be used to change the balance between Rome and the barbarians, e.g. it becomes more and more expensive for the Romans to recruit new armies, so the barbars become vis a vis progressively stronger.

RE: Hot or Not?
@Cmdr:
Dang IL, might be a bit salty there about the rat thing that is often mistaken for a dog. :P
CWO - neat comic, like Dilbert. He’s my patron saint of technology I think.
As for “hot or not” probably. P-40s are seksi in their way, I mean they’re not P-51s so they’ll never be really seksi, but they’re seksi.
Thanks for clarifying everything.

RE: Nintendo SNES Classic Confirmed
I still have my old SNES in a box somewhere.
What’s the advantage of buying this over exhuming the original?

@wittmann:
How did you mod Kingmaker, Flashman?
Oh boy, that’s a book in itself.
All extant nobles, correct arms, correct estates, inheritance rules for dead nobles; I’ve a ton of stuff if you’re interested in details.

RE: Albania as Strict Neutral
Yes, always said this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_protectorate_over_Albania
The Italians occupied Vlore in December 1914, in effect a major neutral invading a minor neutral.

RE: Hot or Not?
Fact 1:
99% of people who own dogs are the exact kind of folks who should never be allowed to own dogs.
Fact 2:
In the movie “Gorillas in the Mist” the gorillas were actually played by chimpanzees in gorilla costumes.

RE: Hot or Not?
These days I prefer WWII aircraft with hot women painted on the sides.

RE: The Great War 1914-1918: Clash of Empires
Hold out for another decade and they’ll fit you with a plastic heart. You can pretty much live forever then. Which you’re gonna need to do if you want to ever play this game.
