Except the change to Albania…

RE: Ikusa - Shogun
I would remove the travel lines across seas and add sea zones, ports, ships and naval combat. Cavalry wouldn’t harm, either.
Hopefully a new version will add these, and fix the horrible piece colours from the Ikusa version.
And my marriage/alliance rules, of course.

Hasn’t corrected the Polish coastline problem or the Bulgarian border mistake.
Give a crap: read a map.

RE: Concept of movement from contested territories
This suggests surrender rules as an alternative:
If, at the end of combat, one side’s forces outnumber the enemy say 4:1 or greater they are considered to have taken control of the region and the surviving enemy units are taken prisoner.
When a nation is eliminated/collapsed it must release all POWs held which are sent to the original owner as per purchased units, assuming that nation is still active.
Should probably include land units only.
Yes, it eliminates the idea of a single courageous unit digging in to hold on against overwhelming odds, but this was a war of numbers and greater numbers eventually told even against entrenched positions. Is it realistic for a single Italian unit to hold up the entire Austro-Hungarian army in Venice? This is how Hitler and Stalin expected soldiers to behave in 1941-5, but is not authentic for 14-18.

Couldn’t they hire a professional to write the rules?

RE: Zeppelin Unit
The main effect of airships should be morale; they did far more psychological than physical damage. Therefore, a successful airship raid pushes the victim closer to collapse, forcing the defender to station fighters in home tt to defend against airships.
Also, using my own fighter development rules, the airships are more effective early on, but become increasingly vulnerable to fighters in air-to-air combat.

RE: WAR ROOM by Larry Harris
Concern:
USA sends units to Moscow via Trans-Siberia railway.
To counter, Japan occupies Soviet Far East, violating treaty and forfeiting 5 morale.
Thus, treaty is worthless unless US/UK units not permitted in Russian tt.

RE: Why Germany lost WWII
The problem is that in the English speaking world we tend to think of “WWII” as a single big event. That’s not how it’s seen in Russia (Great Patriotic War), Germany (The Hitler War), Japan, China or India.
It was an accumulation of regional wars that coincided; because the UK and USA were involved in most of these it is a "World " war.
As far as Germany is concerned the biggest mistake was the gross underestimation of the quality and quantity of Soviet military resources. Failing to meet the aspirations of anti-Soviet nationalities in the USSR was another crass error, largely due to Hitler’s narrow political outlook. Aligning with Japan brought no benefits but dragged Germany into a war with the USA that otherwise Roosevelt could not have sold to the American people.

RE: 1914 Rules Rework
Mmm, my intention behind splitting Karelia was to prevent re-enforcing St P. from the White Sea, so I intended Karelia (i.e. Archangel) to have the port. Forgot to change the values.
Its an idea to give every European power double capitals and production centres viz:
St Petersburg & Moscow
Berlin & Munich
Vienna & Budapest
Constantinople & Ankara
Paris & Bordeaux* (this with Paris moved to the “Burgundy” tt)
Roma & Milan
London & Ottawa?*Bordeaux was temporary French capital in the Franco-Prussian conflict and both World Wars.
I use WWII Russian infantry and control markers for “Red” communist units; they effectively become a fourth Central Powers nation but can only operate within original Russian tt.

RE: What are you reading
It was suppressed by Soviet propaganda because they didn’t want people to know they used the front line units for cannon fodder.
The Germans got a real shock when they eventually ran into the new Soviet tanks (KV1 & T34) because in the first months of the invasion they’d only encountered obsolete models they could easily destroy. Similarly the vast numbers of Soviet fighters destroyed on the ground were outdated units they could afford to lose.

RE: What are you reading
Operation Barbarossa. (B.I. Fugate)
Biggest revelation for me was that the Soviets had been removing their best units from the front line since May, placing them in rear echelons for the counter-attack. This was suppressed after the war because they didn’t want people to know that they effectively sacrificed their units left at the front leaving them with obsolete tanks and low levels of supplies.
But the Germans really didn’t comprehend the scale of what they were taking on.
