RE: Chinese Speed Bumps (G40)
Chinese inf should be 0 in attack, forcing the Allies to bring in heavy units to make China a viable threat to Japan. The Japanese army could take anywhere in China it wanted, but most areas were not worth the cost of occupation.
However only a small fraction of the aid sent to China got used for the war effort due to the corruption and incompetence of the Chinese regime. American food aid was often sold to the Japanese.
Then, as now, the American government tended to overestimate the usefulness of local allies.
From 1942 the two Chinese factions just held what they had and prepared for the civil war they knew would come when America had defeated Japan.

Infantry differencials
Considering different values for infantry depending on power:
Germany 2-2
Russia 2-1, cost 2 (1914 1-1)
Italy 1-1 (1914 1-2)
Japan 1-2
Austria (1914 1-1)
France 1-1 (1914 1-2)
Britain 1-1 (1914 2-1)
USA 2-1
China 0-1 -
RE: [Anniversary] 1941 China revisions
Chinese infantry should be worth 0 in attack.
Consider all non-coastal Chinese areas highlands and nerf units attacking them.

RE: MOVIES 2018
Hostiles with Christian Bale looks cool. Though I am a sucker for Christian Bale movies.
I just hope it sticks to the winning formula of depicting all white folks as innocent victims and native Americans as bloodthirsty savages. Because we all know that’s what it was really like.

RE: Wait a second… can't we just replace the multicolored stackables with pieces?
Its called progress.
I like my minis as much as anyone; I’ll never buy a game with meeples or wooden cubes for units.
But I found playing 1914 with the provided minis practically impossible due to contested tts having way too many stacks. I therefore defaulted to using colour-coded chips for units, all but the required infantry to top each nation’s stack.
Original A&A with only a few unit types and only one side in a tt worked, the more unit types you add the less practical the minis become.
The only other alternative is army cards to hold the units, but I prefer to see what units there are on the map itself; stacking types by colour is the only practical solution.

Vikings 878
Anyone played this?

I’m considering a purchase, but its expensive and the expansion isn’t available over here.

RE: NFL is FAKE: PROOF
They need to ban the players from throwing the ball forwards. Then, at least, you’d have a kind of 3rd rate Rugby.

That “helped” in no way whatsoever
I suggest you try a combination of Lemon, Melon and Pomegranate juice.

RE: Greatest Star Wars Movie
Dr Who has gone a stage further by casting a female in a role played as a man-child by 14 male actors for over 50 years, under the justification that there’s “no such thing as gender”.

RE: Ikusa - Shogun
Just in reference to the rules posted by IL above:
A married lady must be placed in the home castle of her husband.
An opponent may use the Ninja to kidnap a female character instead of assassination. She may be held for ransom.
An army using roads can move through (but not end in) a region controlled by another player (with that player’s permission) without provoking combat.
A further import from the Dynastic rules is succession: when a Diamo is killed the owning player must make a succession roll to determine the loyalty of the heir to that clan. In most cases the new Lord will be loyal to the original faction; he simply takes over the army (and castle) commanded by his father, though he starts at the lowest level as commander. But the risk is that in a minority of cases the clan will pass to an indirect heir who will switch loyalty to another faction.

RE: Ikusa - Shogun
I actually started work on a spreadsheet to add new robin RD and resources to the base game. I also purchased some wooden barrels in micro size from Hobby Lobby, bought extra Airfix and Zvezda samurai, and an old copy of Shogun for the pieces.
Some great alternative rules sets are out there.
Hit me up in PM is you want to collaborate.
Airfix Samurai?
Simple version of marriage rules (adapted from my Conquest of the Empire Dynastic rules):
Game is divided into a number of “eras”. In COTE these are delineated by the inflation events, in Shogun players must agree a number of turns constituting an Era. Each player has a female noble piece in their own colour; think of her as a daughter or sister of your leading noble. At the beginning of each era there is a diplomatic phase in which players can negotiate a marriage contract between their female character and a Diamo (nominally the leader) of another player.
Players whose characters are married to each other have a binding alliance and cannot attack each other. The alliance lasts as long as the marriage OR till the end of the current era (after which it is considered that power has passed to the next generation.)
The only exception is that allies are free to use the ninja to attempt assassinations against their ally’s Diamo. This is a swift way to terminate an alliance that has fulfilled its purpose.
The rules can go deeper, for example birth rolls for female characters in which they may give birth to new Diamo for the succeeding era, or die in childbirth ending their marriage and thus the constituent alliance.
In the medieval version, female characters also inherit lands on the extinction of male family members, but as I understand it this is not really applicable to Japan as multiple wives meant no clans were ever without male heirs.
Note that only a player’s nominated leading Diamo can be married; hence a player can have only two active allies at a time.
Since marriage in Japan was rather different than Roman or Medieval Europe its possible to consider alternative rules such as a Diamo having several wives, or your leading Diamo (and hence active alliance) being determined by rank and hence liable to change mid-era.
Note: The Caesar (not Airfix!) set has an appropriate female figure.

Harder to decide the worst between I and II.
Have to go for I as I have at least completely forgotten II.

RE: Plans for preemtive attack on Germany 1941…
I don’t think FDR would ever have “helped” Hitler.
An interesting question is what would he have done if the UK/France had been at war with Germany AND USSR, as very nearly happened.
Before the cold war America had a blind spot where the Soviet dictatorship was concerned; “let the Russians choose their own form of government”; but had nothing good to say about fascism. Because of anti-Semitism? (Not that Stalin wasn’t anti-Semitic…)
-
RE: Plans for preemtive attack on Germany 1941…
Actually these are the plans for a pre-emptive pre-emptive attack, drawn up when Stalin learned that Hitler had found out about the original one and ordered a pre-emptive German attack, hence the need for a pre-pre-emptive invasion to forestall the German pre-emptive move.

Both arms and yes the withered one too. Do they have pictures of his arm cut off?
What, he had three arms? All that inbreeding amongst European i.e. German royalty!

RE: How japan could win WW2
Organize and finance a beatnik movement in the USA. This would portray the Allied war effort as imperialist, racist and militaristic. Release film footage of Americans committing atrocities on Okinawa, and suggest the internment of Japanese-Americans borders on genocide. Invite Jane Fonda to Tokyo to pose with Japanese anti-aircraft gunners. Sponsor Bill Clinton and his buddies to dodge the draft.
