    • RE: Where WOTC got the idea for this game…

Surely Axis and Allies and Aliens would have been more interesting, with the humans gradually adapting alien tech and reluctantly co-operating against them but with a view to ultimate victory.

And I’ve got zombies already; I want little green aliens with ray guns.

I also want Axis and Allies and Apes:

But I like the infantry only production in China and India. Always advocated this, but should be Australia as well.

    • RE: Bobby Fischer

This all seems to assume that the western Allies leave Russia to it’s fate. But assuming they control the seas the Allies can send troops to wherever the CPs are attacking.

Russian forces concentrated early in Belarus can crush any invading army and then reinforce the survivors more easily than the CPs can send fresh invaders. If Russia is in trouble the UK can send forces up through the Caucasus or by sea via Karelia.

The plan is based on the program of Crush Russia then switch forces west, but if the Allies are awake the CPs simply don’t have time to do this before American troops reinforce France/Italy.

I still feel the best rework of this game is the CPs given set victory targets at the end of specific turns; essentially they must “beat the clock” before victory becomes impossible.

    • RE: Opening Moves

      I don’t think it matters a damn.

The whole problem with this game is that the Allies are so much more mobile (they can virtually teleport by sea, and can feed units into the East via India) that whatever the CPs do the Allies can immediately and effectively counter-move.

Only by allowing the CPs unlimited land movement by rail do they stand a chance of winning.

    • RE: Monopoly

Get rid of the hotels, they ruin the game.

The original aim of the game was to “monopolise” the ownership of houses. Adding hotels kills this.

    • Bonus Infantry Goals

Suggested as one-time unit bonuses for obtaining specific territorial targets. To represent “liberated” peoples turning on their former occupiers. Tracked by tokens removed when the bonus is claimed.

      Japan:

India - 10 infantry. Had Japan conquered India it would have found no shortage of natives willing to help stop the British getting back in.
Western USA: 3 infantry (liberated internees)

      Germany:

Each USSR tt outside Russia proper - 4 infantry. (Local nationalists e.g. Ukraine, Baltic states)
Each USSR tt inside Russia - 2 infantry. (anti-Communists)
Eastern USA: 3 infantry. (DAB volunteers)

      USSR:

Each non-USSR tt liberated from Germany/Italy - 2 infantry (e.g. Finland, Romania, Yugoslavia, Poland anti-Germans)
Each Chinese tt liberated from Japan - 2 infantry (Communist infiltration)

      USA:

France: 4 infantry, 1 tank, 1 fighter. (French patriots armed with American equipment. This is more authentic than a restored France being able to “build” new units) [in my rules captured factories are removed and cannot be rebuilt] Applies even if France is physically liberated by the UK.
(Chinese units) 2 infantry for each Chinese tt liberated from Japan, that is Chinese tts starting under Japanese occupation.

      ITALY:

      Egypt: 3 infantry (Arab nationalists)

    • RE: Vikings 878

I was thinking of designing a three team version: Anglo-Saxons vs Vikings vs Celts. That is with Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Cornwall added and with their own armies and cards. Third parties can join in battles in adjacent tts between the other two sides.

    • Axis and Allies and Aspergers

Anyone else here have Aspergers?  Just have a hunch that A&A players might have a high proportion of Aspers. Of course it can be seen as a mental illness or the next stage of evolution.

Hastings’ Nemesis for the end of the Pacific War; particularly interesting for the complex double-dealing in China, for example a huge percentage of American supplies sent to China were sold directly to the Japanese army.

    • RE: Remake

Replace all land units bar infantry with chips. OR make the board ten times bigger.

Aircraft improve combat ability with each turn.

Morale collapse based on number of casualties and defeats, home tt bombed by the enemy.

Bombers are the only new unit needed.

Give Germany a factory in Munich.

Allow new infantry to be placed in any free home tt.

USA does not have a turn until at war.

      Limit UK placements in India.

      Albania starts true neutral.

    • RE: Irish Republican Army (IRA) rules and musings about Russia

The extent of Irish hostility to Britain is generally exaggerated. The vast majority of Irish people regarded the Easter rebels as traitors when so many Irishmen were fighting (voluntarily) in the trenches, as indeed they did in WWII after Irish independence.
Far more people were killed in the Irish civil war that followed independence than died in wars against the British.
As for Ireland being under “British rule” it should be remembered that Ireland was a member of the UK with its own members of parliament and indeed like Scotland was vastly over-represented in the British government and military.

    • RE: Needs a Strategic reorg phase in game

This is essential for balance; it hardly effects the Allies but enables the CPs to counter Allied sea transport.

If a turn is a year that Berlin-Munich service needs a rocket up the boiler. More than anything, this issue demonstrates the lack of play testing for this game.

    • RE: Needs a Strategic reorg phase in game

Considering each round represents several months it should be allowable for units to rail anywhere through friendly tt in non-combat.

The only restriction should be that they cannot rail into contested tt if there was a battle there this turn.
