    • RE: Transport question

      1. in the game, movement is considered as movement from one zone to another, not movement within a zone.

      2. since combat moves are considered simultanious, i believe you could send the infantry to different zones if the zones are adjacent to the same sea zone.

well, if your going to include pot as a drug you dont want want to be legal, you better include booze in your list of drugs you want illegal. lets face it, lots more problems with drinking than smoking pot. hehe, like americans are gonna give up their beer……

the medicinal purposes of pot arent just pain relief. in the case of my friends father, it reduced his nasea, and of course the well known side affect of “the munchies” was very, very beneficial in this case. tylenol and most other pain relievers just upset his stomach even more than it was already.

    • Looking for turn based computer games

i dont have alot of experience with computer games. ive played the Masters of Orion series, a little warlords 3 (bleah), and space empires 4 (pretty good game).

im interested in other turn based games. i like empire building alot, and i like being able to build custom units when possible. i really like fantasy settings, but sci-fi is good too. long games dont bother me any, ive been known to put 40+ hours into taking over the galaxy in space empires. i would prefer games that i can get cheep or free, and that i can play alone, as i dont get much chance to play human opponents.

any ideas? thanks in advance for input :)

im pro legalizing pot for medicinal purposes, possibley even for normal recreation. but the hard drugs should stay illegal.
having used pot for recreational purposes, i think its not to bad, and not nearly as destructive as alcahol. i dont do either one right now, as i have internet for escapism and whatnot. just tax it as you would tabacco and use the money for drug education and treatment.

pot has definate medicinal purposes for certain types of ailments. i watched my best friends dad dying of colon cancer, a horrible way to go. he was basically starving to death, because he was so nausious he couldnt eat. doctors figured he had at most 3 months to live, as he was basically starving, on top of the cancer. he was also considering suicide, as his life was so unbearable. once he was convinced by his family to start smoking pot, he GAINED weight, and lived another 18 months, and lived halfway decently too. smoking pot made his last 18 months tolerable, and sometimes even enjoyable. without pot, my best friend would have had to watch his dad die horribly, and much sooner. with the pot, my best friend was able to enjoy the last year with his dad, and when his dad died, he had a smile, and was not in agony.

i also firmly believe that if we spent half as much money on drug education and treatment as we do on the "war"on drugs, we would have alot less problems than we do now. education is the key to a working, happy, peaceful society. as a testament to education, the reason i dont smoke is that when i was very young, our school did some tabacco education, and after finding out what it could do to me, i chose not to smoke, even with the intense peer presure for me to smoke.

heck, legalizing pot and taxing the crap out of it would probably pay for a large portion of the rest of the war on drugs…

    • RE: German strategy

heh, my friend, john, was never the type to play any game by normal rules, thats for sure. was really funny watching our opponents faces when they lost on G1. never seen anything like it since, in any game. that was a bad tournament for the other team, as their next game they got trounced by a couple of newbies. they ended up second to last for the tournament, even tho in my book they were at least 3rd place material. these guys were known for serious trash talk, and general nastiness, was good to see em go down hard :)
that same group i took down in a battletech tournament. taught em that 3 light mobile units are much better than 1 really heavy slow unit!

    • RE: German strategy

i believe the actually chance to win a G1 attack on britain works out to ~10%. ive seen it done in a tournament, when i was japan! my team mate was this wierd (but fun) guy, who had played all of 3 games, and hated our opponents. my team mate didnt want to spend any time around these guys, so he bet the whole game on that one move, and had the second hottest dice ive ever seen (first hottest was watching russian aa cut down 6 outa 6 shooting down the german airforce, thats right, 6 1’s!!!). after handily defeating the british navy (who completely missed), our hero hit 100% on his first roll as attacker. was the most amazing G1 ive ever seen. the opponents gave us the win, as they didnt want to waist the time to probably lose anyway. almost felt bad for our opponents, but they were usually jerks anyway.

ansbach, i do the teaching thing too, telling em how im gonna smack em long before i do it. sometimes i even let em backtrack once they see how they messed up. oh, i love japan best overall, but america and britain are great fun too. but really, any country is fun. even russia is a blast if your playing against newbies :)

    • RE: STRATEGY QUESTION

as far as the bombers go, it is very risky, but i have used them to good effect strategic bombing quite often. this only works if youve managed to keep germany rich and england poor. very dificult to do with a good england player, but possible. and i usually play germany agressive, because if both sides are equal players, axis only has ~25% chance to win anyway (or less), so may as well take risks, and have some fun. i must admit, im a weak germany anyway. i am pretty good with japan tho.

    • RE: Barring favorable rolls how can the axis win?

if im playing japan, i often force the americans to come play with me. i take any non-essential forces (usually have some troops and transports to play with by j5 or 6) and go play in alaska or hawaii. ive even gone over and taken brazil (that was a wierd game, had a jap IC in brazil). your goal is not to actually keep anything, just threaten america. anything america sends at japan is stuff not being sent at the germans. and like mentioned earlier, have the J help G in africa. G takes something, J reinforces it.
alot of folks dont have the axis powers helping eachother out much, each keeping to its own areas, but i think thats kinda weak. when playing the axis by myself, or with a certain good friend of mine, we usually wind up both powers in africa, and both in asia. this allows having reactive forces available, especially when it comes to pounding the poor brits.

    • RE: STRATEGY QUESTION

hehe, double team germany and ignore japan, i LOVE it when they do that :) you can chew up russia really quickly when your ignored.

seriously, as germany, try real hard to take as much land from russia and england without losing your offensive peices. in the early game ive had alot of luck with buying mostly infantry, with some fighter purchases here and there. lets face it, germany nearly always winds up defensive, and you need troops and fighters for that. i try to maintain at least one fighter per european country that i have, and one bomber for every 3 european country i have. works well, cause you can attack with a stack of troops and horde of aircraft, take a country, and still land your fighters in strategic locations. tanks come later in the game for me usually. but then, i usually rely on japan to do the real dirty work in taking out russia, and alot of the uk.
a friend of mine swears by german bombers. he buys all troops first turn, and 1 bomber, the rest troops for most turns after that, and strategic bombs russia. bombers are also nice to take out the occasional stray allied transport.
