      @Krieghund:

      @Fishmoto37:

      After a truck stops in an enemy ZOC, how and when can it be released for further movement?

      If the enemy units are pushed back or eliminated so that the Truck is no longer in the ZoC, the Truck can move.  Also, the Truck can move one hex out of the ZoC in the Movement part of the Movement & Reinforcement phase, then move off the board in the next turn, assuming it is still out of the ZoC at that time.

      @Fishmoto37:

      When combat units are retreated can they be moved back one hex to attack if they pay one supply token to move and one more to attack? Or is this only an option for tanks? (Assuming these units have not attacked previously?)

      Units, including Tanks, may only move in the Movement & Reinforcement phase (other than retreating, of course), so if a unit is retreated it may not attack in the same turn.

      Thanks so much Krieg. Those were the only two issues I had with this game other than I would like to see a larger map. Thanks again.

      Well said. This has become a very enjoyable game in my house. It’s fun to trade off sides every other game since the strategies employed by both sides are so different.

      Brad Stephens at Butler looks like a class act. Hope they can keep him for a while. By the way, Butler has most of their team back next year.

      @cressman8064:

      @Fishmoto37:

      Here is an easy fix for the problem of not being able to land planes on carriers after one hit. Carrier takes one hit and combat lasts one round then it cannot land planes as per the rule book. If combat lasts two rounds then carrier can land planes because damage control parties have had time to make temporary repairs. If carrier takes the hit in the second round then it must survive a third round of combat in order to land planes and so on. The damaged carrier must still make its way back to a friendly naval base to be repaired. To be fair and balanced this rule must be the same for each nation even though the U.S. had the best damage control.

      So according to this house rule if your attacked by an enemy fleet who scores 1 hit and you apply it to your carrier, then on defense you roll all 3 hits and wipe out the attackers you would loose your planes, where as if missed and the attacker continues for another round your planes can safely land if you eventually succeed?

      You are correct. If you are involved in a small naval battle like this and the the battle is NOT in a sea zone that contains a friendly island or a sea zone next to any friendly land territory then you obviously need to put some serious thought into taking that hit on your carrier. This is all covered in the rule book for the first round of combat. This house rule does not even come into play unless the combat goes into the second round. It would make no sense to take a hit on your carrier if you thought there was any chance of combat not going into the second round and you might LOSE your planes. If you were attacked by a force that only took three hits to destroy, then I would take my first hit on my escorting vessel or vessels. I would never have an unescorted carrier anywhere near the enemy at any time.

      This poll did not generate the interest that I assumed it would. I have locked the voting as it is time to move on to another subject. There were many different types of aircraft involved in this battle but I will confine my thoughts to the torpedo planes as that is what I voted for. The first single engine torpedo planes to attack the Japanese were six of the new TBFs from Midway. No hits were registered. One made it back to Midway. The first of the carrier torpedo planes to attack were Sixteen TBD Devastators from USS Hornet. (VT8) Because of confusion and inexperience they attacked without fighter cover. One man survived. Again no hits. The next group to attack were fourteen TBDs from USS Enterprise. (VT-6) Again no hits and eleven were lost. The last torpedo attack was made by thirteen TBDs from USS Yorktown. (VT-3) Once again no hits were scored and twelve planes were lost. But by this time ALL of the Japanese fighter cap was down to the deck to stop all of these torpedo planes. By chance this is when the dive bombers made their attack which lasted only about three minutes and left three Japanese carriers burning. Of course there were many others who gave their lives on Midway, on Enterprise and on the destoyer USS Hammann who never even got to see the enemy fleet. But those young men in the torpedo bombers gave their lives without even knowing the outcome of the battle. Can we even begin to imagine what their last thoughts were? They all contributed all that they could for this country. It is a shame that so many young people today have no clue what those men did for all of us.

      @Hellmutt:

      Where in Central Florida??  I live in Tampa and, being retired, might be willing to travel once a month if the distance wasn’t too far.  I play AA50, AA42, AAP40, AAE40, and AAG40 (Delta +1).  I currently play once a month with a group in the Sarasota/Bradenton area.  Three years experience.

      Mount Dora. I have an air-conditioned game room in my shop. I am retired as well. I have all of those games and more. We just finished play testing the Okinawa game for Tigerman & Coachofmany today. Just started to research ILs Korean game tonight. We may try it in our next session. I will PM you.
