      @Imperious:

      lets hope. Its time for a change. Too many WW2 games

      I strongly disagree with that statement. Never enough WWII games. We just need more detailed games with different types of units. Light, medium, and heavy tanks, long range artilllary, long range fighters and bombers (for U.S.A.), pocket battleships, Escort carriers and so on. The list is almost endless. Now we all know that IL has tinkered with lots of these types of units but most of us have not. And what about AA hex based eastern front and N. Africa games. Looks like a possibility for these type AA games. When I say hex games I mean with a large enough map to allow for possible flanking moves and a large Mediterranean that cannot be bridged in one move. Sorry I was starting to rant.  @special:

      @nowanda76:

      My first blog - first hello at all…

      yeah sniper unit great idea but than you need all bazooka unit, Firegaz unit (i don’t know how is calling in english firegaz unit? in Germany it’s calling Flammenwerfer Einheit)

      so KR  :|

      i think you mean a flame-thrower unit.

      that would be impressive!  :-D

      We do not need a flame thrower unit. That would be more of a mess than spilling a drink on the board. Sorry again, I could not resist.

      Hey Brain, I can purchase four Spring 1942 games for $80.00. I have two of them just for pieces. The FMG Italian pieces look great. But $10.00 per nation seems reasonable to me. I might go $20.00 to get a particular set but we must keep this within reason.

      @dinosaur:

      If the price is $10 per nation, I should be able to buy them all, or a set if several nations are involved.  At $15 per nation, I may just have to skip one or two.  At $20 per nation, I would probably only buy three to five nations, and I would be very disappointed I would have to pass on the rest.  After $20, I just couldn’t do it at all.

      I agree. After $20, that is just past my budget.

      ok, well i still think the rules are porly writen in this area.  it would be eazyer for me if it said you were attacking the space. it realy makes no sence the way it is writen.  but thanks for clarifing.  also i was confused on how was attacking but figured that you cant attack on someone elses turn.  that sentence in the rules would be purfect if it didn’t have the word “defending” in it.

      This coming from a guy who can’t even spell correctly. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black….

      Amen to that. Krieg must have the patience of Job. Some of these posts are so poorly written that I just give up trying to understand them. I do not know how Krieg has the patience to attempt to answer them.

    • RE: Questions about truck and retreated units movement.

      @Krieghund:

      @Fishmoto37:

      After a truck stops in an enemy ZOC, how and when can it be released for further movement?

      If the enemy units are pushed back or eliminated so that the Truck is no longer in the ZoC, the Truck can move.  Also, the Truck can move one hex out of the ZoC in the Movement part of the Movement & Reinforcement phase, then move off the board in the next turn, assuming it is still out of the ZoC at that time.

      @Fishmoto37:

      When combat units are retreated can they be moved back one hex to attack if they pay one supply token to move and one more to attack? Or is this only an option for tanks? (Assuming these units have not attacked previously?)

      Units, including Tanks, may only move in the Movement & Reinforcement phase (other than retreating, of course), so if a unit is retreated it may not attack in the same turn.

      Thanks so much Krieg. Those were the only two issues I had with this game other than I would like to see a larger map. Thanks again.

    • RE: Most over-rated WWII Leader

      @KurtGodel7:

      I’m surprised to see General Patton’s name pop up in this discussion. The Germans considered him (correctly) to be the most capable, aggressive, and outside-the-box general the Anglo-American force had. It was precisely that belief which led the Germans to conclude Patton would be in charge of the D-Day invasion.

      Patton was clearly superior to the slow, plodding Montgomery, or even to any of his American contemporaries (including Eisenhower). Many are aware that Patton’s performance in the Battle of the Bulge was brilliant. What is somewhat less well-known is that his performance in France as a whole was first-rate. Joseph Stalin said that the Red Army could neither have planned nor executed Patton’s advance across France. (And that was after many years of the Red Army fighting and gaining experience.)

      Of all the generals the British or Americans had, Patton was the closest to a Guderian, a Rommel, or a von Manstein. Those four generals are characterized by a flexibility of thought, an understanding of the value of combined arms and of mobile warfare, and a skilled aggressiveness which made each of them highly formidable adversaries.

      Yes, Patton was as good as we had in Europe and the Germans feared him.

      As far as overrated generals go I vote for MacArthur. What did he do besides loose the Philippine’s (when he had a 3:2 advantage over the Japanese) and loose the Korean war (ending with him being relieved of command).

      Still he is looked at as one of the best generals of all time?

      He did not LOSE the Philippines! His lines of supply were cut off buy the Japanese navy and air force. Most of his land forces were Philippine army. The U.S. air forces that were lost on the ground would only have prolonged the fight a little longer. He had no hope of resupply or reinforcement. He did not LOSE the Korean conflict. The North Koreans were soundly defeated. Then the Chinese started a totally new war. Truman was worried that MacArthur would escalate the war (which the Chinese had already done) so he relieved the general and settled for a stalemate.

      Poor MacArthur had his work cut out for him for sure. Can you name anything that he was in charge of that he actually won?

      He was in command of the entire southwest pacific area. Seems like I heard that he did ok there even with the limited navy that he had.

    • RE: Question about A&A Production

      @Brain:

      Actually the quality of the games is going downhill, what with the cardboard pieces and the exclusion of IPC’s and all the typos.

      Hey Brain I think the games are MUCH better than the original. I do agree with your thoughts about the cardboard pieces. But I think that the AAG1940 will be my last purchase UNLESS WOTC comes out with an eastern front or N. Africa hex based game like Battle of the Bulge. I will eventually make improvements myself to AAG1940 instead of buying new editions because I will have that nice big global map to work with. (and FMG units) By the way, what is the deal with the swastika flag?

    • My first Battle of the Bulge game

      Played my first game today. WOW. So much difference between this game and the AA global games. It looks like it is going to be a very interesting game when I get to the point of not commiting so many rules violations. I learned so much today. I played as the allies and managed to hold the Germans at the bridge east of Clervaux for four complete turns. The German player learned the hard way to NOT stack six tanks alone in the Dasburg hex. I won the initiative to start the third round and killed four of those tanks and forced two to retreat. He was starting to flank me in the fourth round and the only place I had to retreat to was straight west which was blocked because of being a ZOC hex so I lost many units that could not retreat. I brought in my air force in round five but it was not very effective. I had lost so many units by this time that I could see that there was little hope of stopping the Bosch sunami. I need to change my allied tactics and fall back trading hexes for time to let more of my reinforcments get on the board. We have another session lined up for next monday. I think that we can eliminate most of our rule errors next time. Now if I can eliminate strategy errors maybe it will be a better game.
