    • RE: Canadian Parties

All the parties in Canada are right? YOu are kidding me. Canada is more left than the U.S. (National healthcare system) right?

Yes, i think canada is a little more “left-wing”, but i think we could only say they are less right-wing… Quebec is also more from left than the rest of the Canada… French heritage :)

    • RE: Seperation of Church and State

Yanny and Ghoul, I don’t think it will be going any where soon. As I understand it, the President, the House, and with narrow margins the Supreme Court and the Senate support the pledge.

The USA is certaily the christian “protector” of the modern era, not only because of the strong christian faith but also because of the strong judeo-christian sense of moral (good, evil…). I really don’t think the jugement will stay… If it does i would be very surprised…

    • RE: In our game Germany ALWAYS wins- help us

Every time I’ve played this, with the standard rules, Germany wins. All other forums with good players agree, even Avalon Hill agrees that the game favors Germany.

hmmm… strange. I don’t think the game favors germany. In 60% of the game i saw with standard rules the Allies win… only by removing Allies starting 12 IPC or by inversing it (Allies put the IPC first, Germany second) it is well balanced.

      Just look Here

      The ultimate Green Peace alien!!!
Just because we deface the planet by building unnatural structures and tear down natural beauty?
      We pollute heavily?
      We waste natural resources?

They might be doing the earth a favor!

      Agreed…
But we are still alive… At the expense of earth’s fauna.

Hopefully they’ll have some wishy-washy science rules about not interfering with the local animals…

That would be logic, if one day we are able to observe the evolution of another civilization i wish we will not interact with them (if they have a lower technological level).

Still… if we cannot exeed the speed of light it will be quite hard. But history taught us (well some of us) that the word “impossible” is use far more often.

      It is “impossible” to flight
      “Impossible” to quit earth’s attraction

    • RE: What the hell is wrong with you amaricans!

“That is the typical american reasonning, the fact is it is mostly Luck.”

You base that off no one you know. My father, my landlord, my father’s students…all made money because of hard work. Don’t tell me it is luck, it takes intelligence as well.

And ? We will reward people because they are intelligent ? You just think they were “hard worker” because of their succes… i knew a lot of people who work hard for nothing. That is more a myth than a reality

So a dumb ass who sucks working and contributes nothing deserves to make more? You deserve to be rewarded for hard work.

rewarded for hard work… Why ? There is ethic in that ? How can you say we are all equal in liberty if one can choose what car he will drive tomorrow while the other is trying to work for anyone just to have to money to survive ?

And stop denouncing being rewarded from hard work as “American.”

That is just typical… i did’nt say that as an insult.

The problems and corruptness of capitalism would not be eliminated by communism.

Right… and corruption can destroy communism even more than capitalism

    • RE: Canadian Parties

Interesting. I use nearly the precise terminology descibing separatists (even terrorists if you consider the FLQ) that you use in describing Christianity and you consider that close minded, extremist, insulting and intolerant.

First i don’t use these words now
Second you are insulting a people, not an ideology. Quebecers are not an obstacle to science or to anything, they just want a country, to be proud of their governement like you are proud of canada.

How dare you?!?! You have no clue what a referendum does to our country.

And how dare you to say that ? Maybe i have more clue than you think, i have family (in-law) in Québec.

As i said before - most of us believe we live in the greatest country in the world. I am no different

Then “you” all have a short visision. Before being german, before being european, i am human. I have esteem for english for X, french for Y, japanese for …, there’s no such thing as a “greatest country”.

And then i see people with a political agenda founded on ignorance trying to tear it apart. How is the weather up on your lofty European pedestal?

They are just trying to get a country. No need to insult european.

No wonder people in these forums get pi**ed off with “European arrogance”. And i am not being insulting in my post.

About european arrogance you will note i never said “europe is the best”.

      Jacques Parizeau is a lunatic.

That is why the “greastest country in the world” take him as economic counselor even if he was separatist ? Parizeau was brilliant, he make a lot of good thing for Québec.

He and Hitler would have got along well

You seem to be quite hysteric.

    • RE: Canadian Parties

I’m with FinsterniS on this one too. I think that Quebec needs to be divided into regions that are pro-federalism vs. the non-fed regions. Those cancerous anti-Canada regions need to be severed from the rest of the country like a tumor. I’m tired of tax money being poured into those areas just to appease people who thumb their noses at the rest of us - especially when that money could go to people who actually NEED it. Then my mutual funds start to crash when one of those lunatics tries to force another referendum with ambiguous wording . . . i wish they would just go already. Unfortunately the BQ is losing popularity fast and Quebeccers are tired of politicians telling them that being a part of Canada stifles their destiny. Ahhh well. One day. (mind you, i hope that Montreal would stay - i like that city).

That is not very moderate nor very open-minded. You don’t want to understand, just to insult. Even if my vision is maybe limited i have seen much more intolerence coming from the english side, while i do not blame them from being proud of canada, i’m blaming them from being so insulting when it is not time of referendum…

I could even quote you several english, yelling about Quebec, while Quebecers, often called racist, are not so insulting.

    • RE: What is liberty?

In our society freedom is essentially money.

The more money you have, the more possibilities you have.
The less money you have, the less possibilities you have.

It is not that simple… but i think it is a good generalization of freedom. But freedom can take various form.

stop dissing those who have worked hard and knew a good idea when they saw it.

That is the typical american reasonning, the fact is it is mostly Luck. Even if they had “good ideas”, that’s not a reason to make them more rich, more free. Capitalism is pure injustice…

For a true communist society to exist, individuality must be destroyed, and we must move “from the I to the We.”

False. The individual must understand his place on the society.

Individuals are nothing without the society
      Society is nothing without individuals

People are too ignorant, have a vision too short to understand that; so communism is for now an utopia. But this short term vision is costing us a LOTS now, we are destroying ourself. Those who were call “pessimist” now seem to be the realist, our planet is in serious danger… We cannot afford to live for ourself.

people belive in God because they were brought up to

Sound like Richard Dawkins analogy (religion is a virus)

so is patriotism, beliefs about education, economies, just about anything. Also many people disbelieve in God as another tool to rebel against their parents. Too simplistic.

… i did’nt say otherwise, i just said it was looking like the analogy made by Richard Dawkins…

About a tool against parent, it can go on the other side

      • People believe because they are too conformist
      • & People don’t believe because they are too non-conformist (in the sence they reject everything without any logical reason).

Still… religion is very present in more conformist society.

    • RE: What the hell is wrong with you amaricans!

greed is never needed, its wanted, and no economic system will rid its inhabinants of desire. people will try to make themselves better of than others, regardless of the common good.

Remember that even if it is true the society is nothing without the individual, the individual is nothing without the society.

And people are egoistic because of the common… We are working like our ancestor, fighting individually for survival, even when oppressing the others. Even if at first it was natural it became a deviance. We are simply in a stage of evolution where we most understand our ancient instinct are not working anymore. The “upper classe” is not anymore the more strong of the race, simply they are those you have exploited the system. Also we are not hunting animals in the forest, those with physical problem are not anymore a problem, they can be integrate in our society and be very good citizen for the evolution. The argumentum ad naturum you are using is very common for right-wing who want to caution their belief by using nature. Even if i think we do are animal, we are in a different strage, we will not survive while acting like we are now, pollution is largely due to the individualistic nature of the human.

BTW, if a machine can be emotional, would you feel right enslaving it?

Interesting question… ethic for machine… Anyway, even if Penrose has concluded that it is impossible to build an intelligent computer, i am always sceptical… we use far too often the work “impossible”.

(plus: you are country founded by religious weirdos (in european terms), otherwise not so much would have emigrated: a point that comes out clearly in other threads)

Pretty strong religious belief… President bush often finish with “god bless america” :)

"No, I don’t know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God.”

George H.W. Bush, as Presidential Nominee for the Republican party; 1987-AUG-27:

“…once a person admits to not believing in God, this raises the question of whether or not that person believes in America…”

Chief spokesman for National office of the Boy Scouts

“The Boy Scouts of America maintain that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing his obligation to God.”
