The rulebook states at page 35:
“There are two exceptions to this regional division. West India, on the Europe map, is part of the Pacific economy, and North American territorries on the Pacific map are part of the Europe economy.”

RE: Anti-Sub Tech Delayed (YG's 8d - G40)posted in House Rules
@Young:
Anti-Submarine Technology Delayed What I would like to suggest when using the 8 sided dice system, is a house rule that would delay the submarine ability cancelation powers of all destroyers until the beginning of the third game round.
I like the idea and will suggest it to our game round (eventhough we are using D6)!

RE: AAA & amphib assault (Global 1940)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Please correct me (and I am sure you will :wink:) if I am wrong, but the following sample is legal:
USx - transports are moved in a SZ next to London and offloads units
UKx - NCM a AAA on US transport
USy - amphibius assaults Norway with 1 inf from London
UKy - NCM move AAA to Norway -

RE: [Global 1940] Capital City Captureposted in House Rules
Actually we are using this house rule.
If a capital is captured the conquerer receives the cash. Thereafter the nation receives normal money by the end of its turn an can buy units again (if they have an IC) and can place new ICs or bases. e.g.: France loses its capital by G1, on F1 they get 9-12 IPC. If the axis do not capture Normandy by turn 2 or UK liberates it on UK2, France would be able to place some units in F2.
Normally this does not hppen and France collects a bunch of money by the time the allies do a landing, but we found it not such a major impact.
The impact is bigger if London falls and UK Europe is thereafter still able to spend 16-20 IPC in Africa and Middle East. -
RE: G40.2 1942.2 Formula to balance cost and combat points for customized unitsposted in House Rules
Hello Baron, now with your formula I see, why you suggested 15IPC instead of 14IPC for our cruiser A3 D3 2 hits.
It brings it closer to the rate of destroyers. (15IPC = 1,26)8-)

RE: Can you save the Bismarckposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Would you scramble 4 planes to defend a damaged BB and a destroyer vs 2 subs 3 fights 3 tacticals and 2 strat bombers?
This presupposes that Germany won those coin-flip-battles on SZ106 and SZ91.
But my answer is: “No I would not!” Because I would build 10 units on London and get Sealion of the board. -
RE: Young Grasshopper's G40 House Rulesposted in House Rules
That would give Japan a guaranteed point if they chose to take it, Fiera. When you consider the amount of ships in the opening setup for the 2 nations, Japan could wipe out every US ship in the Pacific by the second turn no problem.
No offense GHG, but how long does it take UK to get the Africa token if they use the Indian fleet on Ethiopia and go Torento?
You could either go early for the Armada token or forget about it.@Young:
As a foot note… this token was meant to be difficult for the Axis.
We compared it with the Liberation token, and thougt a liberation of Sydney to be easier, espacially as Japan also has to defend Caroline Islands (and if those lost Philippines & Shanghai) and of course Tokio.

RE: Can you save the Bismarckposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
e.g. could it be moved to SZ109, paired with other surviving ships of the atlantic. It is not save there, that is for sure, but definately it is not an autokill for German Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe. And if you are planing on Operation Seelion, you also need your planes for Adlertag…

RE: Combined arms suggestionposted in House Rules
@Baron:
That way, it will not affect the G40 or 1942.2 opening round set-up balance.
Fair point!

RE: Young Grasshopper's G40 House Rulesposted in House Rules
@Young:
Armada
-There are no American Capital ships on the board
(R&D) *JapanThe question came up, if it wouldn´t be better to say “no American Capital ships on the Pacific board”?
That way US would have to keep at least one in the Pacific if they would go for KGF.
Also Japan can only achieve 3 objectives on their own as they are dependent on what Germany does in the Atlantic (Armada) and on the main land (Economy).
To put it all in a nutshell:
Axis, 4 objectives on Europe, 3 on Pacific and 2 globaly.
Allies, 4 objectives on Europe, 4 on Pacific and 1 either Europe or Pacific (Liberation of London/Sydney). -
RE: G1 attack into SZ 109..what do you do with out come of this dice roll?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I think, that I would have scrambled with 3 fighters to SZ110 because of the lack of sub fodder and 1 fighter to SZ109.
In my turn I would have attacked the remaining sub(s) in SZ109 with SZ106 destroyer and air to prevent convoying. -
RE: Can you save the Bismarckposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
In my humble opinion the only way to save the Bismarck is by attacking SZ111 and retreat to SZ112 leaving behind a damaged UK battleship.
On the other hand if this gives the UK player the posibility to save his Prince of Wales, nothing is won.Personally I would never give it away for free.
In one game I played UK and my oponent whiped out my SZ111 fleet by the aid of the Bismarck, but I also rolled some hits. Instead of taking a sub he took both hits on the battleship with the words, “it is lost anyway”. -
RE: VANN FORMULAS TESTINGposted in Software
What he doesn’t want to share with you is that you can do all of this for a fraction of the cost of buying Europe 40 and Pacific 40. Here is the ultimate recipe;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDaHAFm_KusGood idea, I do have this one also in my playroom.
But without the deep knowledge of the VANN FORMULA, we can not be sure if a cavalry unit is really worth 5 infantrie or if it is a obsolete unit! :-o -
RE: Combined arms suggestionposted in House Rules
@Baron:
As far as a comparison between a regular BB or a kind of heavy BB against DDs, both remains weak and maybe 2% better odds of survival at most for heavy bomber kind of roll.
I tried a battle of 2 (heavy) cruiser and 2 (heavy) battleships against 8 destroyers (both worth 64 IPC) and it turns out to be either 1 destroyer left (AACalc) or 1 damaged battleship (Excel).
@Baron:
In fact, you get a strength increase around 22.2% (2/6*4/6 = 2/9) for a @4 roll (66.7%), this 89% is higher than rising BB to @5 (83.3%)
And for Cruiser basic 50% you get 25% (3/6*3/6 = 1/4), rising to 75% rate of success, also higher than @4 66.7%.
So, instead of two rolls your rule maybe simpler by just adding +1 attack or defense when Cruiser or Battleship are fighting air and naval units.
How about the idea to get the increase (which ever) only if you have a combined fleet of cruisers and battleships, but not for single ships?

RE: Combined arms suggestionposted in House Rules
@Baron:
Effectively, 12 IPCs Cruiser was too cheap.
At 14 IPCs, it will be optimized compared to 20 IPCs BB with 3 hits.
Cruiser will be slightly weaker than BB but better than cheap DDs.Did you see some issues about a 3 hits BB?
A core fleet with 3 BBs give 6 hits to spare before loosing fodders.
Seems the way to go building fleet around BB core.Regarding 12 IPC; this was our impression, too.
Therefore we would try and playtest the 14 IPC version, 15 IPC seams a little too high to me, but we will see.We were not facing big issues with 3 hits BBs. BTW @SS, we do not reduce the A D values.
Normally USA is the only nation purchasing more than one battleship. That way we regularly have the hugh fleets of US battleships, carriers and cruisers vs. the Japanese fleet which also gets some cruisers and one or two battleships.
For sure, you also see US battleships in the Atlantic, but those are normally ignored or countered with Axis cruiser purchases.The positive effect of 2 hit cruisers is for UK, but also for smaller nations like Italy and ANZAC.
On the one hand it is not so easy to sink UK Navy in the North Sea, but on the other hand it makes Toranto more difficult.
For ANZAC it is great, because they can build up a small task force of a cruiser, destroyer and transport, that does not have to be affraid of two Japanese subs.Actually the subs are seldomly bought and the destroyers only if the oponent has subs.
Lets see how the purchases are if the cruiser is at 14 IPC. -

RE: Young Grasshopper's G40 House Rulesposted in House Rules
In our gaming round we used the Victory Objectives & Victory Tokens for the first time and the New Developments & Modified Breakthrough Charts
It worked really good and in the end we had a 2:0 Allied victory.
This was really nice, because we came to a point at which all started becoming tired and the board was far away of beeing clear who would actually win.
Allies were 1 token ahead with Africa which gave UK a Heavy Artillery.So we decided to play two more rounds and then we would quit. Thereafter Axis did risk much more and it was really a funny game with a lot of dice rolling and epic battles. In our last round USA managed to conquer back the Philippines and the game was over.
In the past we had more than once the situation that the most tired player gave up or after long discussion we were finally shaking hands in a draw.
This always annoyed me and therefore I introduced this house rule to our round, with success! -
RE: Combined arms suggestionposted in House Rules
We made the cruiser to become a true capital ship!
In our house rule we just increased the hit points of the cruiser to 2 and of the battleship to 3.
Thereafter we had a lot of cruiser buys and only USA did actually purchase battleships.
Now we realized the cruiser became better then the battleship. Therefore we are thinking to increase the costs for cruisers to 14 IPC, which should minimize the gap again.
