@Most:
Bad news. Even though I booked the weekend off 2 months in advance there was someone that booked it off 4 months in advance. Pretty sure I won’t be able to make it this year.
WHAT!?!?!! If MOST HOLY can’t make it: we might as well just shut’er down!

RE: The FIELD MARSHAL is in FRANCE

Difficult to see, but I was doing the Churchill “V” for Victory.

RE: Why no flanking amphibious invasion in WWI?
@Imperious:
For a few days, then we clobbered them. Italy not so much.
The terrain of ITALY is very difficult do not forget… AND the forces deployed there were serverly short of supplies and new troops due to the build up for OverLord.

@suprise:
Lets all rally around this event!!!
The clock is ticking closer and closer….I cant wait!
Send out P.M.'s to every one that attended last year
S.A.Once again there will be real TANKS at this event. Not gate guards but actual moving vehicles to keep it interesting. In addition I have been informed by the 420 Wing that there will be a Battle of Britain ceremony on site for Sunday with Band and March Past.
All very cool…
Play War games while you enjoy the History alive around you!

RE: Why no flanking amphibious invasion in WWI?
@Imperious:
Proportionally
On D-Day, the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy. The American forces landed numbered 73,000: 23,250 on Utah Beach, 34,250 on Omaha Beach, and 15,500 airborne troops. In the British and Canadian sector, 83,115 troops were landed (61,715 of them British): 24,970 on Gold Beach, 21,400 on Juno Beach, 28,845 on Sword Beach, and 7900 airborne troops.
That’s what I was saying, less than half. Just look at the final position of field armies in Europe and it will be clear that the American made a lot more than half of West Allies forces at the end. I think politics played a role and the US needed to make room for the glory day, basically.

Lets not forget ITALY. Many of the Commonwealth and Allied forces were engaged in the Italian Campaign. The US pulled forces from this theater to launch the Normandy invasion.

@Imperious:
Dieppe was to see how Canadians fight. Obviously, they used less of them for the real thing.
There is NEW EVIDANCE from recently declasified documents that the Dieppe raid was actualy a diversion for a very important Intelligance operation. Anyone else hear about this?
Interesting stuff….

RE: The FIELD MARSHAL is in FRANCE
The FIELD MARSHAL is back and ready for action. Thank you for your patience while I was gone. Had an amazing Holiday

RE: Medal of Honor Films
Will we see any epic Iron Cross recipients/re-enactments?
;)
They gave out Iron Cross like Candy in WWII…. :-P What would really be interesting is the stories of VC winners. There are VERY few compared to any other National military award in History.
If you look at the numbers, the VC is the most difficult military award.

RE: Why no flanking amphibious invasion in WWI?
Logistics. The entire Great War can be summed up by that word. First off all you have to scrape together half a million men. Then you have to find some ground held by the Germans that could be landed on (there wasn’t) with enough costal infrastructure to supply the men you land (which there wasn’t). You also had to hope the Kriegsmarine was sleeping (they weren’t) and then somehow move your landing force fast enough (which never happens) to positions unoccupied by the enemy (spoiler: they’re always occupied).
In the end it’s impractical and there would likely be little real success as the Germans would simply be able to pull their Belgian front back, thus shorting the line they had to hold, giving them better interior lines and freeing up more men, and likely result in the same type of casualties figures we saw on regular land attacks if not worse. And rule #1 of war: If Churchill thinks it’s going to work splendidly, it’s all going to go terribly wrong.
Great Post and so very true!
If they did attempt they would have found themselves in an “Anzio” situation anyway. It would have tied up more Allied troops and logisitcs than the Germans would need to contain them with their interior lines of communication and supply.

RE: Odd WW2 factoids.
There were more British and Commonwealth forces facing the Enemy (on the ground) than American forces in all theaters of the war until D-Day. June 6th 1944, the D-Day landings tipped the balance and from that point on there were more US forces facing Axis forces than Commonweatlh for the remainder of the war.
Interesting fact. This sometimes plays out on the Game board also…. :wink:

RE: German\Italian Invasion of Egypt 1940
What if you committed serious Luftwaffe elements?
This would have helped. But both Malta and Crete were needed for the Axis to have complete air and naval domination of the region. Think of all the supplies lost to Rommel because of Malta! If serious attention was paid to Malta and a German assisted invasion was planned… the African campaign would have turned out different. IMHO

RE: FMGC 2013 - Gaming Convention - GTA CANADA
Well in lieu of the financial predicament I am working through ($10,000 from start to finish) I am not yet sure if FMG will be viable for me this year or not.
http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=31271.0
However, as I have received overwhelming support from this community… if coming out there is possible, I will.
We would 1000% understand. However your presence on the Battlefield will be missed.

RE: Field Marshal Games - Notice to our Friends and Customers
So, any chance for an update on the state of FMG? I’m sure the task of reestablishing a strong foundation underneath your feet is difficult in the business world, but I’m really pulling for you guys.
Thanks for checking in on us!
We have made more PERSONAL investments to get COMBAT DICE back in stock. This has been a solid product for us so it will be well worth it. Sales of COMBAT DICE will allow us to move forward with other projects and get back in the black.
We are looking at options with private investors and possibly even Kickstarter to excellerate this recovery. Getting the GERMANY units completed will be our first product launch after recovery.
Things are SLOW, but we are still here licking our wounds….
Jeremy
do you have combat dice in stock?
Samples from our new factory are due next week, then production will be about 30 days.
back up and running soon!

@Craig:
@Craig:
We’re hoping to snag a ‘celebrity’ guest attendee or two…
Wait a second?!?!?!?! :-o :-o :-o
I don’t rate as at least a “B”-lister in the A&A community? :cry:
You are an “A” in my books…. the biggest AAA “celebrity” that I have ever defeated in Battle 8-)
Jeremy
You beat whom??? I don’t remember any such thing!!!
Actually, all I really remember about that game of AA50 was the young guy who was playing Italy kept leaving and coming back. I remember more about the multiple Acquire games and the Agricola game that we played. Also, I think we played Cosmic Encounter.
Must have been the Sleeman’s!!!
:-D Very historical game… The Germans always complaining about the Italians…
