    • RE: Question about unit value

      Yes. It was a player request to have actual unit photos for easy mini identification. There are all updated and ready to play.  The dbase is also good for doing builds as you can set a nation and year restriction and view all the available units on one page. Glad you are enjoying the dbase.

      Feel free to ask questions when you have them.

      @Death:

      Anyone use the Zero’s yet?  I need to go through and read all the stat cards.  I’m afraid to use the Italian planes, they may breakup on takeoff. LOL

      The Zero’s are a bit tricky. Going second seems to help by allowing you to place them in safer positions. Don’t let two allied planes gang upon one or its history.

      Great Vid. Your daughter did a great job with the video. I bought a full set to avoid endless booster purchases……and it was Christmas in March. :-D

      @Death:

      The 110 is pretty sweet, it has a special ability because of the tail-gunner that inflicted 1 point of damage on my P-40 Warhawk.  It outlasted the 109 Ace.

      Thats interesting. I honestly haven’t had a real good look at the card for the 110. I guess I kind of considered it a scenario piece and didn’t give it a second look. More focused on Spit’s and 109’s I guess.

      @Death:

      What is your favorite plane so far?

      Anything German  :-D

      I like the 109 wingman and its abilities. plus it’s German

      I am going to try the Germans this week-end. Likely the Ace and Wingman for builds.

      I will send you a link to download the pics.

    • RE: Question about unit value

      I don’t believe that there is a convention on which way to play across the hexes. I prefer a flat hex straight ahead as it works better with Overwatch.

      I see you are getting revised and unrevised cards mixed-up. Here is a write-up I posted eleswhere that should answer a lot of your questions. Have a look and get back if you still have questions.

      Yes, This is an awesome game and if you can introduce it to someone it basicly sells itself with its smooth play. How did you discover AAM?

      Introduction
      Released in 2005, Axis and Allies Mini’s is a hex based WWII miniatures combat game. Played on hex based maps, Infantry, Artillery, Planes and vehicles battle for control of objectives and territory. The game is turn based and uses dice to decide the outcome of battles.

      Scale
      The game started out with vehicle scale is in the 10-12mm range and was changed to a more standard 15 mm scale about halfway through. Sets that contain 10-12mm vehicles are, Base Set, Set II, Contested Skies, D-Day, Reserves. Sets that contain 15mm vehicles are, 39-49, North Africa, Eastern Front, early War and Counter Offensive. Making a total of ten expansion boosters issued. Tentatively Set 11, Late War is scheduled for release in May of 2012 (now officially on hold). Note - Only the Vehicle scales were changed and all Soldier, Artillery and Planes remain unchanged for all ten sets. Both scales are legal and acceptable to be played in tournaments and matches.

      Card Revisions
      The cards that are associated with the Mini’s were also changed to reflect the expansion of the game, unbalanced stats and costs. The following sets were revised and are clickable to acquire the revised cards. I would highly recommend downloading these cards and using them as they serve to balance the game and make it more playable. There as of yet no revised cards since Eastern Front.

      North Africa - http://www.wizards.com/AvalonHill/rules … evised.zip

      Eastern Front - http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules … evised.pdf

      All cards are consolidated and available here in our card database: http://www.tintirinti.com/search_AAM.aspx
      Simply click on the searched units text to see the printable card.

      Maps
      Maps produced up until the scale change to 15mm were 2 inch hexes. After the revision and large vehicles the maps were rescaled to 3 inch hexes. Either map scale is OK to use. Larger battles play out better on the 2 inch hex maps as the smaller scale make battlefield larger. Inversely the 3 inch hex maps allow more room for mini’s and less crowding within the hexes.

      Base Starter Set - 2 inch
      DDay - 2 inch
      Expanded Rules - 3 inch
      19391945 Starter - 3 inch
      North Africa 19401943 - 3 inch
      Eastern Front Maps - 3 inch

      Stacking limits Change
      Originally the unit stacking per hex was 2 units and only one could be a vehicle. With the addition of Trucks in North Africa these limits were changed to 3 units per hex and only one may be a vehicle.

      Platoon Cards
      At a certain point WotC issued two sets of Platoon Cards. Platoon cards organized units into specialized groups for a discount in points. When the cards were finally revised the platoon cards became defunct and lost their official status. Some players still use them. Its a matter of personal choice.

      @scubadur:

      hey guys

      has yust begun  collecting, so i am a rookie. in every possible way.
      so i have som questions which i hope to get answere on :)

      1. can u use/mixing units from the various sets?
      2.why does the veteran Tiger from North africa set cost 68, when the Tiger 1 costs 56?
      attacks and defense are equal and it seems to me they have quite similare special skills
      is the difference worth 12 points for the veteran Tiger ?

      thank you in advance :)
      Scubadur (Norway)

      Yes you can mix units from different sets and different nation as long as it was historical. The veteran Tiger has a SA that the Tiger I does not (Crack shot). That is the difference and its well worth the extra points.

      Yes we did use the special abilities and difficult maneuvers and the pilot levels and found it all pretty manageable. It seemed getting a plane to where you want to was harder than we thought. You know there’s a maneuver but you have to figure it out. But thats just plain practice. The matches seem fast and not as involved as AAM in terms of terrain. Got any favorite planes yet?

      @ Dave - I have a full set of images for all 31 planes in the set in two different views if you want to post a gallery somewhere. Let me know and I can button them up and Dropbox them to you.

      Cheers

    • RE: Played Games

      We finally got some games in with A20. Let me say its fun and fast paced. We didn’t play with elevations to keep things simple. We kinda wanted to get the basic mechanics down before going into more than one dimension. We played the Japan Vs UK example scenario three times, each time letting play take us where it wanted. We are going to play again Saturday night and use elevations this time.

      On another note, I have my full set of set 1 planes here and am starting to photograph them for a A20 gallery today. Its too bad you guys couldn’t enable ![](codes and I could post them for review in a Gallery.  :wink:)

    • Benifit for PanzerPainter

      Hi,

      I’m sure most of you know PanzerPainter and his great work. Just to fill you in that PP has had some bad luck and some health issues in his family. The guys over on the Underground wanted to do something to help a friend so we organized a silent auction for his benefit. Members have donated gaming items for auction in a special section we have set-up. Dano and Locozugmeister, two outstanding members have organized this auction. I will post the link to the auction below. You do not need to join the forum to get involved, you can contact Dano directly through his email address posted in the benefit section. Anyways have a look and place a bid if there’s anything you like, it will be going on for a couple of weeks. There’s going to be tons of hand painted mini’s like the Sherman commander and Zis rocket truck that are up now. There is a 3 pce tank decal set up along with a set of baron maps also. I understand that there will be a gently used “Tides of Iron” game coming up shortly along with some 3d terrain for use on 3 inch hex maps.

      Would the bf 110 even fit into a booster. It seems like the wing span might be too wide.

      Thanks for the info. Boy these sets are sure sold on a sliding scale. It just goes to show, one should do a little research before buying. On a more depressing note the mail just came and no pre-order yet. Ugggg! Apparently I should of done some research. lol

      Last week Walmart online had North Africa AAM boosters for $7. Seven dollars can’t be much more than cost. Anyways needless to say the guys on the Underground bought the entire lot in a few hours. It included free shipping to your nearest walmart.

      I think they have rare, uncommon & common in terms of Ace, Wingman and rookie. I still haven’t received my order yet so its only hear-say. There aren’t a lot of planes in the booster but your not going be playing with 20 or 30 planes like you might with infantry like in AAM. It roughly works out to $8 per plane in the booster which isn’t too bad when you consider how many AAM and WaS rares are well over $8 in the singles market.

      Is there some more convenient vehicle we can use to share images than twitter? I hate to be a stick in the mud but I’m barely on Facebook let alone Twitter.

      By the way, how is your progress on the new forum platform? I trust we will be able to post Image codes and sigs. ETA?

      @frimmel:

      @Field:

      Sorry its likely too late but bomb or torp the BB under the waves with planes.

      Second this. Less destroyers/cruisers and more aircraft and carriers in your fleet build. I haven’t played any of the newer sets to offer specific piece recommendations though.

      Exactly. The Secondarys on your BB’s can take care of Crusiers and Destroyers. Sub swarms can also be useful. If anything if they are getting close to his capitol ships they will distract his planes from you ships for a few turns.

      What nations do you often play empireman?
