If a Muslim prayer was recited at a public (or school) speech I’m certain Christians present would have their say about it…
Deviant- Are you equally willing to protect the rights of a Muslim’s free speech?
Clearly, public schools avoid the religious issue due to the potential hailstorm of rights violations from minority faiths. Politicians won’t dare risk careers on it, either.
I’m certain in New Jersey, (growing up there myself in a strong Roman Catholic area), the scales will easily dip towards the Christian arena…

RE: What WW2 commander do you most admire, and why?posted in General Discussion
Rommel knew the war was lost after Alamein, but he hardly gave up on his troops. He did what could with what he had. Monty fought “safe” battles of attrition at Alamein, no magic there…

Rommel all the way. I have issues with German Commanders in Russia due to their dealings with SS policy. Patton next, you gotta love him! Zhukov, you have to admire a guy who launches major offenses in blizzards and sub-zero temperatures! Lastly, Auchenlick. He did alot of good in Africa, Monty stole alot of his credit…

StrongBad1988 - I’m only 3rd generation American. My great-grandparents ALL came to NY (settled in NJ) in 1912 (give or take a year) during the great Central/Eastern European immigrations to the US before WWI. Like to think I’m gypsy, but can’t prove it…

RE: Different Perspective…posted in General Discussion
Sounds like the US has been doing business pretty much the same throughout our history as a country. The locations and politics change, but the scenario is similar. Look back through time. The US military is often engaged without a war declaration. Recent events or WWII is nothing off par…

RE: Operation: Sealionposted in General Discussion
The German’s had about 3 months after the Fall of France to invade England. The British home army was no where prepared for an invasion. German feelings were that the Royal Navy and the RAF would destroy the invasion fleet before the troops hit English soil. The RAF was already destroying half of all possible barges and ships that the German’s were planning to use for an invasion. If the initial targets of the Battle for Britain (radar and lookout stations and airfields) were maintained instead of terror bombing London, the Kriegsmarine may have had the time (and air cover) to POSSIBLY arrange an attack on the UK mainland by Summer '41. It was already too late. Germany had lost the Battle for Britain in the air, Hitler had his greedy eyes on Russia, the Navy was still skeptical (and losing ships), Goering was making promises he couldn’t keep (air superiority).

I’ve found that the British South African IC steals IPC’s from the British Fleet operating around the Atlantic/Med. The British need the flexiblity to move as many troops around that London Factories can pump out, losing 6 to 10 IPC’s each turn to Africa hinders this. These African troops can get cut off from the main Allied drives in Europe and Asia as well, reducing their effectiveness…

RE: German Navyposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Allied victory depends on the survival of Russia and the existence of a UK/USA fleet. The fall of Russia is a hard hit in the Allied camp. It is the end. If the Allies chose to push on Germany just needs to eliminate The Allied fleets (with it’s back door secured). Sacking your air units will now be necessary, you can now afford to replace them. There’s really no point in continuing the game after the Allied fleet is gone…

RE: Should the Draft be extended to Women?posted in General Discussion
Agreed. Public Service would be very positive.
TG Moses - The military is this aspect is like any other job. For the Navy, all recruits take a test to see if you can make it in the Nuclear Program, then they go from there. It has the highest drop out rate in the Military. I was on a fast attack submarine (Los Angeles Class - USS Boston). Most guys in the auxiliary mechanic, electrical, and electronic divisions (non-nuclear) were nuclear trainee drop-outs (we called them Nuke-Waste!). Some of those guys hated their new rates. They get in trouble they get out, etc., etc. Beyond that, recruiters will promise you the sun and give you little for it if they can. Some people get “promised” a job code only to have the Navy change it in bootcamp (needs of the Navy). Alot of people will get kicked out over that, promised something exciting and then find themselves a cook. I would not have enlisted without a guaranteed school in writing. Beyond all this, like I said before, people just don’t want to get the positives out of a military experience which will help them in any future career. Anyway, that’s what I got out of it…

RE: Should the Draft be extended to Women?posted in General Discussion
Mandatory military service will not work in the US. Being a Veteran, I’ve seen plenty go into the military losers and come out about the same. It’s all about what you take with you and what you get out of it. If your not interested in discipline, duty, and hard work, it won’t help you at all. It be worse if US citizens were all made to serve instead of volunteer…
