The government will try keep quiet anything they feel is vital to national security, or makes them or the country look bad. It’s only natural. It may seem like their treating us like children and later on they’ll have some lame reason for doing it. Hey, they make mistakes, too. Every country in this world does it. At least here we can have an election every 4 years…

That would be the proper assumption. However, the military IS made up of that society. Worse yet, you have to take people from all over the country with different backgrounds and beliefs and expect them to live together sometimes under unfavorable conditions. Can you actually expect in this scenario no problems?

RE: What I Hate Most When Playing A&Aposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Agreed. I try to limit such casual games where I know 1 or 2 players will back out do to the lack of interest. You can look at it 2 ways I suppose. A challenge left to you to get the game back in your alliance’s favor or the burden to hopefully clean up the mess…

RE: Group Game or 1v1?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
It is much more challenging to play in the group scenario. With no central command like in 2 player games, the name of the game really gives it’s meaning…

Seems like the issue with friendly fire is that it has always occurred. My grandfather is a WWII veteran who fought in Iwo Jima. His Marine Corps Division was always harrassed by the Navy bombers! The air groups couldn’t believe the infantry would advance so quickly and assumed they were Japanese. His C.O. at one point had to lay a large US flag on the ground to stop his men from getting killed…

Good, use that to your advantage. Exploit it for a good victory. It will wake them up…

RE: The Death Penaltyposted in General Discussion
Not necessarily. When you’ve got an individual convicted with boat loads of proof they’re guilty who is a real threat to society (say a multiple or mass murderer), they should be put to death (my opinion). Do you really want your tax dollars to go to this predators lifelong education, health, free room and board, etc. I’ll agree our judicial system needs an overhaul real bad to avoid more wrongful convictions, but when you’ve got a real monster in prison - terminate.

I’m with the equality angle. When I was in the Navy, women could not serve on combatants, only auxiliaries and supports. Add the draft, all commands, and then you’ve got something…

Is the death penalty a reasonable determent to crime? What’s the statistics - anyone?
I’m for it when it stops a multiple predator…

The US seems to be imposing some tariffs on foreign competition at the pressure of domestic businesses. The lumber tariff with our neighbors to the north seems the most disheartening. Americans don’t care, they buy what they want no matter who manufactors the item in question. There’s been alot of “Buy American Made” over the past years but again people buy from whomever the want - hey, it’s a free society…

Your right Horten, maybe some day we can refer to our differences without insulting each other. It’s real difficult when we can’t agree on what’s “Politically Correct” to say (MAN DO I HATE THAT TERM!!!).

As for the large military presence, let’s be real. I’ll admit my country will remain arrogant. We are the only superpower left. Our government wishes to keep it that way. Our people, thinking for security and safety, quietly agree. We stick our noses in everyone’s business. All American’s don’t agree with what always goes on. I personally believe we should “but out” on various world issues. But I don’t see it happening any time soon. Does America have the right to play policeman to the world??? I, as even most Americans, would say “NO”, but it still happens…

Being a veteran, I can say recruiters target EVERYONE they can get. They have quotas to fill. As for what they can offer, all possible recruits take knowledge exams to see what military schools you can get. In the Navy, they WANT everyone in the nuclear training program due to the high drop out rate. They don’t give a Damn what you are.
Remember, the US government is one of the largest employers in the world. It suffers all the problems companies have. Whether it’s ANY discrimination or waste, it’s going to happen. They are working on it, I’ve seen alot of improvement in the past 10 years. They’ve got alot more people to answer to than the private sector.

Agreed. There will always be yahoos on both sides of the fence. Unfortunately in war, friendly troops (your own and allied) get killed by mistakes made in the field. Canada and the US are strong, long time allies. Our interests in North America are similar. I understand why some will get upset and angry. Try to keep the faith…

RE: Black versus African Americanposted in General Discussion
Maybe someday we’ll all refer to ourselves by no other word but “American”. Then, we will really have something. Being a veteran, occasionally during your time of service you do get that feeling - we’re all the same.
Question to all European members. Do you have the same problem with different ethnic groups searching for identities outside their countries’ name???
The “MAN” usually refers to authority figures. Historically, it refers to old white guys running the Western governments and industry.
