    • RE: PRO ITALIAN STRATEGY

Sadly this is true. Italy needs a better plan and a more long term strategy. Germany can at least let Italy take some pro-axis lands. I like to invade syria on trun one with italy and take in turn two iraq.

    • RE: Need a short introduction for a new player

Now we have our game running. This is what I did:

I mailed him the first turn and explained how to start the game. He then made his turn and started to play a solo game. I will also send him turn two and three and hope that will show him how the game works. Afterall he still has to move the units and conduct combat. Until now it works quite well.

I find it quite difficult to keep China from being killed. How would you suggest doing it?

    • RE: Worst Country to play

Well in the long run (when only considering the major powers) is Russia pretty depressing to play, because your options are quite limited.

If considering all powers or only turn 1 then I would say that China is pretty boring (beside France).

Yeah the history is known, but the highlighting is also new to me. It seems like a good feature.

      @Marshmallow:

You may be misinterpreting what I suggested. While what you have listed are all correct points in the right circumstances, they are by no means always correct. Even air superiority for the Axis is not a guarantee if the Axis is weak on the ground.

      Marsh

That is true. Some points are not alway good or valid, but I have never really considered them so I added them to my lessons learned, because the right situations might occur in a future game.

    • RE: Help needed against Japan

Yeah. It happened to me that I didn’t saw a single enemy transport sneaking across the ocean and invade the US or africa. It also happens often that I don’t move all units.

    • RE: Need a short introduction for a new player

Well that might be a possibility, but a complicate. I will just send him the rule book and let him play against the computer to get a feeling for the game. I think that should be sufficient. All other questions can be answered directly.

    • RE: Help needed against Japan

Update: US make his turn and Italy as well. Washington is now protected, but Italy conquered Turkey and now Iraq is in reach of 5 tanks and 6 aircraft units. I only have 6 tanks and 1 inf.

We will play a bit and I will inform you how the game ended.

      Lessons learned until now:

      • UK Subs in the Med

      • More US subs in the pacific

      • Using UK aircraft to protect Moscow or Russian aircraft to protect Calcutta proved to be very effective

      • Inf + aircraft is very good for defending Moscow and keeping the lands around Moscow a death zone, but 4 aircraft is not enough

      • The air superiority of the Axis powers make the really dangerous and flexible.

    • RE: Help needed against Japan

Oh well sz101 is unprotected and Washington has only two fighters. So I hope Germany doesn’t notice this. That is a capital fault on our side that I didn’t saw.

It is easy to overlook something in triplea.

    • RE: Help needed against Japan

The us fleet had to move into the Pacific, because Japan had Hawaii and was close capture Sydney. Now the Japanese player retreated his fleet to Tokyo to protect it.

    • RE: Help needed against Japan

Thank you for that great reply. I am pretty new at axis and allies and have problems with late game strategies. Germany is with its fleet at Gibraltar and has three transports with it. So I guess they want to support Italy and attack Egypt. They also have 6 planes and tanks in the Ukraine and a transporter and aircraft carrier in the black sea.

Subs in the med is a great idea.

Is there still hope to win? We have now round 8 and I am not sure if there is anything we allies can do? See screenshot.

      I play UK and Russia….

Sadly the player moved away a few countries and a few thousand kilometers, so there s no chance to meet him IRL.

    • RE: Need a short introduction for a new player

Well the problem is the async communication. We can only play by mail, so if I write the rules down for him, then I could also give him a PDF document containing most of the basic rules. And by basic rules I mean only the rules that are really required to play the game. If you start with a nation with nearly no sea units (basically only Russia and China…maybe UK), then you don’t need most rules and can simply start playing. At least that is m hope.

Yes 1942 is a better variant to play, because you have more options without the added complexity of 1940.

    • RE: How to handle G1 DOW against Russia?

Well, I have to see how Russia moves. if Russia retreats to Moscow then I will take the surrounding Territories otherwise I will march directly to Moscow.

I will inform you how it went.
