    • RE: J2 DOW - What to build?

      An air base in Kwangsi would also have been useful in retrospective. Then my aircraft stationed there would have been able to attack any fleet around SZ6 and land in Japan. With an Naval Base in Hainan any fleet that would be stationed in the Philippines or SZ36 would be in range of SZ6.

      Something to consider for the next game. My original plan was to attack India in J3 or J4, but that was hindered by UKP moving the troops from Malaya to Shan State and from India to Burma. This really puts a lot of pressure on Japan, because you have to fear counter attacks on your few land units without having the protection of your aircraft.

      But they could make a combat move. Why would they make a non-combat move? Are you assuming that the way is blocked by a DD that they kill during the combat-move?

      I decided to buy of minor Ic, one harbor and 5 inf. I placed the Ic in Kiangsu, the harbor in Hainan and the 5 inf in Japan to defend it against an invasion.

      A single DD and three fighters for scramble won’t help if the entire US feel decides that it is a good idea to convoy Japan and kill the new ships.

    • J2 DOW - What to build?

      Hi,

      I am making a J2 DOW with attacks on the Philippines, Malaya, Yuanna, Hong Kong and so other smaller battles. In J1 I build 3 transporters that now move my troops to my battles.

      The Us fleet sits at Hawaii and waits.

      So what shall I build in J2? I don’t have good spaces on the mainland to build a factory. I plan to build one in FIC, Malaya and Hong Kong. Transporters will probably get killed by the US fleet.

      Are subs the way to go? There is always the risk that the US fleet will attack my newly build stack. Or shall I save my IPC to build 3 minor IPC on J3 and on J4 12 units?

    • RE: The Japan Playbook

      Taking the money islands as soon as possible is a good option. UK has moved nearly all troops to Burma (8 inf). So I will attack Malaysia and FIC J2 and take two money islands. This allows me to decide on J3 if I want to take India without Shan State and thus only six fighters or take the remaining islands and attack Yuannan with all forces and kill the UK and Chinese ground forces. It all depends on the enemy move in UK2.

      The good thing with Japan is that you can be really flexible and fast, if you take care where you place your units, but at the same time it is possible to make deadly errors in the early turns. Chinese+UK can overrun you if have spread your forces. Japan does have only few ground forces and so many fronts. You should be prepared to leave one front undefended to handle one front/problem per time. If the US fleet convoys Japan then you have to spent at least one turn to handle the problem and /or build minor IC on the main land.

      You have to spread you fleet to protect your transports from US/Anzac planes and naval attacks and this can prove to be really difficult.

    • RE: Sea lion

      Well you stop UK from building more units and force the US to try to rescue London. Especially if UK did not expected a Sealion and build nothing to prevent it. Many people think that Sealion will not happen and thus only build minimal defenses against it. If Japan does a J1 or J2 DOW at the same time and pushes string against India than US also has to decide what to do. Help to free London as fast as possible and risk a Axis win in the Pacific or split forces.

    • RE: The Japan Playbook

      In out current game I plan to take India on turn 3.

      J1: Build transports and troops. Get FIC
      J2: Build Airbase in FIC and also build a port in SZ36. Move planes to FIC, Move 12 troop adjacent to sz36
      J3: Attack India
      J4: Get money islands

      Is this a good plan? Germany (played by another player) will try a Sealion on G3. Has anyone tried to do this before? How would you handle China since a lot ground troops are moved to India and probably lost.

    • RE: Global game should be 25 turns long

      Well out games never last longer than 12 turns. By turn 12 it is normally defined who will win. If the axis did not win until turn 12, then the axis will win in the long run.

      So I would say that the Axis need to win in 12 turns or they loose. The win options for the allies are difficult to achieve in short time and drag the game until it is finally decided. Especially Japan can build infantry turn by turn and if they land all aircraft on their island then it is difficult to conquer it. And it is also no fun.

      But what about unloading into a friendly land during non-combat. Can the sub there also be just ignored? I think the OP question is concerned about this and not amphibious assault.

    • RE: POLL - G40 Your favorite turn for Japan to declare war and attack

      Simply because I want to use my units and don’t want them to wait. In my currentl game I tried J2, but that went fairly bad, because I had some bad luck and now China is in a good position.

    • RE: PRO ITALIAN STRATEGY

      Might it be a good strategy to move with the Italian troops from Tobruk west instead to Alexandria and Egypt (of course assuming that UK1 attack on Tobruk did not happen? Normally when the troops are moved to Alexandria, then they are killed fairly certain if they are not supported by the German airforce and often just stay there useless.

      In my current game it happend that Germany lost to many aircraft during the G1 attack and thus was not able to protect my. My force got killed.

    • RE: Axis and Allies for iOS?

      I wonder how difficult it would be to convert TripleA into a HTML5 format or for GameMaker Studio. From there is should be fairly easy to generate an async. multiplayer game that is scalable and convertable to different devices. People could also host it on there personal website.

      I wish the game would allow games with more than two players online and G40 would also be cool. Sadly the developer does not reply to email and seems not to work anymore on the game.

    • RE: The Bright Skies

      @Afrikakorps:

      I agree, with a strong buildup of German forces for four turns while they do not do Sea Lion or anything useful, the plan needs to be adapted (will think about this situation later). My experience however is that Germany invades Russia in its first or second turn to prevent it building too much troops. Time is on the side of the Allies, so I can only welcome a slow Axis advance.

      It depends on the opponent. My opponents wait in order to weaken US and move all pieces in position, especially if Japan also waits. It is risky to delay the war, but it allowed Japan to move strong into China and Russia without much risk.

    • RE: The Bright Skies

      @Afrikakorps:

      Middle East and Italian Africa
      The tank, mech. infantry from Stalingrad and two infantry from the Caucasus are send towards Iraq. They should take Persia in the second turn and conquer Irak in the third turn. In turn 5 and 6 the remaining tank is able to capture Ethiopia and Italian Somaliland for a total extra income of 14 IPC.

      It sounds quite interesting, but I think this is not possible, as long as russia is a neutral country. In our games Russia is attacked normally on G4. Also invading Scandinavia is not possible as long as you are not at war and if Germany moves some planes to Finland and some more troops with its “fake Operation Sea Lion” transports, it is impossible.

      Also having Scandinavia severely weakens your ability to defend Moscow, because the German tanks are just fast and reach Moscow within four turns after DOW.

    • RE: PRO ITALIAN STRATEGY

      @taamvan:

      With 1 transport, Italy can eventually take Iraq, but a strong UK player will have a fleet left over there, and the situation is to the Allies advantage unless the Axis have kept or committed more resources than in a typical game to this region through some other channel.

      Plus, its pretty slow moving;  Syria I1, Iraq I2, Place Mic (with what Italian $$?) I3, Place first units I4 (again, with what $$? you’ve got jack)…

      By I4, a strong UK player will have plenty of threat on the oil zone and your position is insecure, esp. when he already has 1-2 factories right next to you.

      If on the other hand, the UK has virtually nothing left in that region (this is why I don’t counsel doing the T+T Tobruk+Taranto move, you lose all your Allied assets UK1), and the Italians somehow have more than anticipated on the water (2TT+), then by all means, kick open the Syrian door (this terr. is key because its placed such that you can shuck-shuck men there from Italy, land planes there, and can screen out egpyt, and can kill the UK NO by taking crete) and head for the oil, a few german planes can divert there for cover without requiring Germany to commit to a full afrika korps aid package.

      Yes you are right. It is quite slow and UK can put up a lot of thread. But if Tobruk survived, then UK can not afford to send units from Egypt to attack Iraq and even if they move to Iraq and move a lot of troops from south Africa, it distracts them and binds resources, which could be very helpful for the German conquest.

      But like most plans it depends on the opponent, the current game and some luck.

      Has anyone tried to build an IC in Iraq? Italy can get Iraq turn 2 and hold it. I would like to try it in our current game, but I am not sure if that is a good plan.

    • RE: PRO ITALIAN STRATEGY

      @Private:

      Italy can generally most effectively contribute to the axis cause by sending units to the Russian front in support of Germany. Italian can openers can be crucial. Italian income can be bolstered with eastern front captures against the eventual convoy disruptions in the Med, but judiciously so given the corresponding reduction in German income.

      Sometimes a lesser role a little later retaking European territories from allied landings so as to minimise any distractions for Germany.

      Can opening and slowing the Allies is quite important. How would your strategy for the middle east or Africa look like? Should Germany concentrate on taking Egypt after defeating Moscow?
