I assumed no intercept as it wouldn’t have effected the bombing (and the odds would favour me) but if you wanted to gamble on that, we could use game dice.

One thing to note is that I had asked for my sub in 119 to be moved to 124. Of course this was after the fact so I’m fine if you wanted it to stay where it was. But since you didn’t attack it, you also got hit by the convoy damage. Just wanted to make sure that you didn’t just miss my message as you could save yourself two ipcs.

@DizzKneeLand33 thanks! It was a fun game. And your allied bomber strategy was quite an interesting and challenging one to play against. One tentative suggestion is that if you spent a bit more on US Navy in the Pacific so that they could grab islands, and on having some presence in the Atlantic, I think this might have been more dangerous.

Looking for one more game. Preference for Tier 1 or E this time and for BM. Any takers?

Long term, I hope not. Short term you might with the German air supporting. I didn’t calculate it. I had some pretty good dice in those UK combats to improve my chances

We will see. I don’t like risking the game on 85% odds, so you might have called my bluff. Will have to think about this.

you called my bluff, and now i have to regret all those lost blockers and inefficient spending

Not looking at the map right now but I won’t scramble in India. I’m assuming that is the only one.

Thanks for the game! No time right now for a rematch but will be up for one down the road.

RE: oysteilo (X) vs. farmboy (A+9) BM3posted in League
I’m not too sure as we’ve played this game over a few weeks and earlier turns get fuzzy. But 1) I think the heavy German navy build probably doesn’t work as well with a J2. Because of the J2, I knew I had more time in the pacific so could spend heavy in the early turns to match the German navy build. And once I got in the med I could largely ignore it. Had you focused on land, your edge against the Soviets would be more substantial. I would have built more efficiently and defensively as well but not sure if I could have compensated. Or had you gone J1, with that navy, I would have had a harder time setting up in the Atlantic. You might have also tried to set up in a way to get Gibraltar. This is where Marines or an extra transport can come in handy. I wasted a lot of transports just to hold Gib and it ended up being worth it. But a 2-4 more land units and I would have likely had to reconsider. I would also have to be nervous about UK had you had more land units available.
And you often kept your air on the carriers rather than the W Germany Airbase rather than the airbase. This meant it was almost always out of range from my Allied fleet in the med. This gave me more options and meant I could split the fleet or leave it with fewer air and not have to worry about you taking it out.
Again, everything is a bit fuzzy now but I recall thinking those things as we were playing.

@farmboy I concede, good game and well played! This game was PTSD inducing haha.
There were a few moments that I felt you had moves that could close out the match much sooner, but I’ve long forgotten them by now. I’m pretty sure this was my longest match ever.
I’d be up for a rematch.
Thanks for the game! I’m glad I managed to pull that off, but dice definitely made a decisive difference as well. I don’t think I’ve ever had such consistently good dice (essentially over 37 rounds!) and I certainly have never had such good dice and still not be sure of the outcome.
And so far I think I do better in this game at denying my opponent’s victory than at setting up to win. Everything is now foggy for me as well, but if you do think of things that I could have done differently, I’d be interested.
One thing I recall thinking was that for a period of the mid/late game I was playing the pacific too conservatively. I was fairly convinced I was going to win in Europe and just thought I should avoid giving you any close to 50/50 attacks on my pacific fleet. I think I had some opportunities to take and hold Java. And I could have set up at Marianas earlier which I think was helpful to me when I did it. But I was too afraid that you would be nervous about Europe and you would gamble. In hindsight, I think I should have risked it.
We’ve actually had one longer game. The playoff game last year went to around 60 rounds although the sides were reversed, and I think you had effectively won it by the early 40s.
I’ll certainly be up for a rematch down the road but it will need to wait a bit. My wife is due to give birth in about a month so I need to avoid starting new games here until things settle down. These games tend to be all consuming and I don’t think i have the discipline or time management skills to do both. I also doubt my dice luck will continue although hopefully I can avoid some of the mistakes I did make.

you cant put two marines on one transport.
I’m pretty sure you can actually. Apart from their special amphibious abilities they are equivalent to inf.

Yeah. I don’t often see the 109 attack. And you had pretty solid dice except in France where I did a little better than average.

I think it is often better than Taranto although I’m not sure if this was the right time to use it (given the German transport build and your attack on 109). The logic of Taranto is that you trade the UK threat for the Italian one, but this one allows the UK to threaten both Germany and Italy (and help defend both Egypt and London) while containing the Italians.
And yes, the UK dice were great this round. If you had scored two hits in 110, that would have caused some difficulty.

Dice worked out for me there too. Scotland was a gamble on your part, but a good AA result would have really paid off.

RE: L20 #1 Amon-Sul (X) vs farmboy (A+12) BM3posted in League
I didn’t expect you to go for that fleet given the odds, but despite that and the good dice I had, I think that move actually paid off for you. Your loss was only -6 and the German attack will potentially make that up. It may be the case that I should have committed to losing fighters instead of fleet, but I was thinking that the German follow up made that too much of a risk.
