@Amon-Sul its all good. the game is malfunctioning, but I think we can figure out the right outcome. I assume you just lose two destroyers and the fighter and the sub survives.

@Amon-Sul Its not so much I was surprised, but I was certainly hoping you wouldn’t. Persia was the critical one and you are right that it could go badly for you and still well enough to do what you needed it too. Sending units to Kazakhstan was, in hindsight a blunder on my part since it made that Persia attack a safer one for you. I’m not sure if the pacific victory was really possible in any case but I thought it was worth trying for. And Caroline certainly paid off for you but I thought that was the least likely since it was 50/50 and winning it wouldn’t protect Hawaii.
I’ll probably play through the next round at least, but will need a day or two to think this through. I haven’t had a chance yet to properly take a look.

@Amon-Sul if you had a combat in 99 then I think you can only load those units in Crete on a combat move which means they needed to end up in combat. If the transports remained in the zone for the combat then they are unable to load after.

I will concede here. I thought there was a slight chance that I might have a better than 0% chance of holding Hawaii for 2 more turns, and of taking India (Not with the Germans alone but with the Japanese coming down to attack after). But you’ve definitely blocked that.
Very well played @Amon-Sul. I look forward to the rematch (down the road).

RE: Farmboy (X) vs Amon Sul (A+16)posted in League
This is a belated comment but was just going to say that the win was certainly well deserved. I was over confident at first, and then was in trouble pretty early.
The challenge of Amon’s approach is that he also puts a lot of allied air in china and the mid east very early which meant that I never really had a chance to take advantage of the units he pulled away from Moscow.
I did have more options with Germany. Had I had a more single minded focus on Moscow or on getting fast movers into the middle east, maybe I would have had more success. Or alternatively, I could have put more energy into messing with the UK. I did spend a lot of German income trying to keep Italy in the game, but not enough. So I either needed to double down on that or (more likely) abandon Italy’s fleet earlier. A G2 is an option as well and I would have liked to have seen how your game played out with better dice for Amon.
But I think the real key is how one plays Japan. I waited to J4 for the DOW to give Germany/Italy more of a free hand. In hindsight, I think that was a mistake because I let him dictate the play in the pacific.
Definitely looking forward to the rematch.

@Amon-Sul yeah. I never had much of a chance to take Moscow because by the time I got close, you already had a ton of allied fighters within reach. It more than make up for the Soviet units in China.
And different choices with Germany may have improved my chances, but it was Japan’s play that let you get much of that air in range.

It was Japan play, and it was allied play. My NT dudes really helped.
Absolutely. And sorry, by referencing Japan’s mistakes, I don’t mean to minimize the cleverness of the strategy or your execution of it. Just trying to think through how I would have to play against it differently. I think I had effectively lost the game by round 4 or 5 unless there was a major dicing or error. And short of dicings or sloppiness, I’m not usually in such bad shape as axis, or in such good shape as allies that early, so I have to think through what I could do differently in response. And I want to play against it again to see if different choices can shift the outcome. Of course, I realize that different choices on my part will lead to different counters on your part. So it might just mean I lose in a different way. But figuring these things out is part of the fun. -
RE: League General Discussion Threadposted in League
I think a playoff tourneys for each version is a good idea and it also makes sense to keep track of games played in the different versions (at least if that is easy for the moderator).
I do think one ranking (regardless of games played) is better for the reasons Oysteillo and Ksmkay have suggested.
I’d also prefer it if one can only enter only one of the tourneys at the end of the year. I think that would encourage more participation and also encourage players to play more PTV and especially OOB as those become other routes to the end of year playoffs.

OK, great! Great discussion, I mean.
Not a bad idea to have separate playoff brackets for separate versions - not a bad idea at all - but I think I have a better one!
It’s no trouble for me to maintain 3 different standings sheets for 2021. Therefore, I’m confident the majority will agree that for 2021 we will still have 1 league together (shared results thread, shared discussion thread, shared everything) but with a separate standings and PPG calculation by version, which is actually what I was saying before I read the last 2-3 hours worth of posts. There will be a league champion playoff for each of the 3 different versions.
Again, this is a proposal and you all can shoot it down (with radar enabled AA guns), but surely this will be the most popular idea, no?? :)

RE: League General Discussion Threadposted in League
@simon33 I guess my assumption here is that the skills from one game are pretty transferable so that a high ranking in one version will transfer to others. And we have already been doing that with BM and OOB although I appreciate that PTV is a more substantially different game. But what qualifies someone to be league champion is that they win the tournament. And I would expect players who can play in the tournaments are going to self select for the tournaments they have the best chance in, so they won’t use their BM wins to sneak past better PTV players into the PTV tournament.
And my concern here is that we are going to end up siloing the league such that a lot of players just stick to one version or the other. I play for fun, but the competition and the goal of ending up in the playoffs is a big motivator and part of the fun. So my choices around the games I play is always partially influenced by how it will effect my rankings. I will end up playing other versions less than I might otherwise if the games don’t effect my chances in the playoffs. Obviously other people play for different reasons, so maybe this will just be my problem.
@trulpen Definitely its good to play newcomers as it also helps maintain this as a community and bring new players in. I did the same earlier last year. I played a game of OOB with a new player and a couple of games of BM with someone who had recently joined the league. I won those games, but if I had simply not played them, I would have ended up in 7th in the league ,rather than 11th. I don’t mean to whine about that (I’m quite fine with where I ended up. Apart from the top 4-5, there are about 20 players that have a reasonable chance of making the final 8. This just wasn’t my turn) but I think it speaks to how this can be a disincentive.
Again, I’ll be happy with whatever the changes are and adjust accordingly. Just thought this was worth flagging the concern.

I saw the dice you had on Yunnan and FIC. I was ridiculously lucky there.

@farmboy sigh. I also forgot about the UK units in the US. I was going to move an inf onto a US transport and an inf and tank down to mexico. These are more likely to impact Italy so let me know if that is alright.

@simon33 realized I forgot to move the UK BB with the US fleet in the pacific. Will edit it in now with anzac if that is alright.

@farmboy That was quite mean of you to kill those defenseless Japanese transports. They shall be avenged!!! ;-)
:) It was a hard choice given I’m trading a carrier and a fig, but thought/hope the board position will make it worth it

@farmboy also, I was unable to unload the AA off of the US transport in Marshall islands. I had thought that a combat move unload of a unit did not prevent you from unloading another unit during an ncm that had been loaded in a previous turn ncm.
This is moot if you don’t attack and I’m likely using anzac units to discourage you from sending a sub. But if I’m right about that rule and the transport is destroyed, I’d have wanted to move it to the islands.
The transport cannot unload in both the combat and non-combat phase. If I understand the situation, I believe Triple A got it right. We can discuss further, if I am misunderstanding.
I just checked the rules and you are right. And yeah the China moves had no impact, but I thought I should check to be sure. I’m pretty relaxed about those type of edits, but not everyone is.

@captainnapalm this may have been premature on my part and I was reconsidering it a bit on the UK turn, but I did too much too set up the US and SOviet turns for this. So I’m going for it.
