Played our first Global game Saturday. Allied win, despite Britain falling round 3 to Sea Lion (liberated by U.S. rd 5). It hurt the Luftwaffe badly enough they were vulnerable against Russia, and the Japanese were ineffective in the Pacific. Didn’t get the DEI, failed to elimiate China, Russians took Manchuria and Korea briefly, etc. Italians did well in the Med., due to U.K. passing up Taranto first round. Eventually bought a Minor IC in Iraq, which the Brits promptly snagged. Axis conceded around round nine–had pretty much ran out of momentum.

I have not played a full game yet, but on G1 there is no way I would attack Russia.
Yeah, I can’t really see trying that either. There’s a good chance to kill a lot of Russian offensive weapons, but it’s a long damn way to Moscow, and I’d rather not have the Russkies breathing down my neck while I’m still trying to secure around the homeland.

Not familiar with Taranto. If I remember right, the egypt fighter went against the eastern Italian boats, and they sent one fighter down from UK to hit the western ones with the tac/dd/cv.

Ah, I see. 50% isn’t too bad, if it pulls the ftr off of Italy. 9% is pretty crappy, but again, might (big might) be worth it to get the tac/carrier out of the Med. I guess I could go cruiser/3 subs…would help against the air force, but might convince the Brits to bring in their remaining BB/Dest.

I lost a plane in the first assault to keep the BB undamaged, for precisely that reason. Would that influence the decision to attack?
Also, why “defending at 2”? Damaged BB still have full att/def values, don’t they?

Yeah, that’s why I didn’t do it. It would take killer luck to actually make any progress.
What do you think about a 5 sub buy? Like I said, only ran about two rounds, so I didn’t get a good handle on how bad it would hurt me on the ground, but it kept the German BB alive through UK1, with a sub or three left to finish the Brit navy (well, what wasn’t in the Med.) G2. -

Ran through the first few rounds of a game last night. Took 2 INF 1 ART to Normandy, other starting ground troops to France, 2 subs to kill canadian dest/trans, 2 subs 1 tac against BB/Cruiser, BB/cruiser/ftr/tac v Cruisers, 1 sub 1 ftr vs Dd/TRN off Britain. Killed everything I went after with the exception of canadian transport. Lost a plane to keep the German BB/Cruiser together outside the Danish Straits. I’m thinking a 5 sub buy for Germany first round might not be bad, especially if you’re looking to put off Barbarossa. With the Brits down to 2 destroyers, one of which is off Gibraltar, I’m thinking the subs would help keep the German navy alive cheap, while being hard to kill and offering tons of convoy-disruption opportunity. What say ye?
Also, what do you guys think about throwing at the British CV first round? It looked like a losing gamble to me, but leaving it alone puts the Italians in a world of hurt.

I think this, combined with moving one Brit transport, could possibly work to balance Pacific, without having to resort to all the other proposed changes. Could be wrong, though–I’ve only played eight games or so.

Midnight doesn’t have any copies of Pac40 in stock, but they said they were expecting to have a few Eu40s for release. Asgard Games on Kirby is the same story. If he’s on the other side of town, you might try Skirmish Games. I didn’t have any luck finding Pac40 from a brick-and-mortar anywhere, though–Nan’s didn’t have it either, I don’t think.

It is an issue on the Europe side, where one sub can affect the income of two separate powers boardering the same sea zone.
You can actually do that in Pac, I think. Canadia is Brit money, no?

Yeah, it seems like anything done to balance Pac without Russia will necessarily become unbalanced with the addition of 18 infantry. I dunno, though.

I haven’t stayed right on top of all the setup-change discussion, but has anybody suggested putting one or two infantry in each of the Dutch territories? It seems like this would maybe make the Japs work a little harder for the DEI, possibly enough to weaken the India Crush a little.

However, a chess board where squares connected to squares they weren’t supposed to? And only comes with thirteen pawns? That’s kinda crappy.
