That is a good point. I have made plans of a fake sea-lion, for example build the regular transports and carrier (naval what-not), than move troops into germany and towards the east. Than next turn load up your transports, and amphibious assault leningrad. Than attack the russian provinces adjacent to the german eastern front, and you have a completely surprised russian force that will be forced to spend their resources on retaking leningrad, than having to face an amassed force in central russia that is ready to thrust in and knock out moscow. Than stalin/lenin grad would be easy pickings. The only thing that italy has to do is take cairo turn 1/2 and the axis should be able to have the allies before its too late.

RE: Sealion Alpha#2 how/when and is it worth it?
If england recalls all available air craft, infantry, and warships from the african and atlantic theaters than italy will flourish and germany will focus on russia. In my opinion, a properly done sea lion will not give the axis the Victory cities they require on a good time table that has the americans in mind. That being said, if one wishes to sea-lion, they will need to be prepared for a war of attrition on the western coast of europe. And defending europe and executing a russian attack is not possible with the German economy. Thus leading to my assumption that the axis’ only plausible choice is a russian attack on turn two. Turn one consisting of destruction of the english navy, conquest of france, and movement of troops to eastern front.

RE: Sealion Alpha#2 how/when and is it worth it?
The carrier will bring air cover to the baltic fleet, sure you can fly planes over and attack but they cant really defend the baltic fleet at all (at least in the original rules). Thats the only incentive to purchase a carrier G1, to protect the german warships.

RE: Facilities
Yea, I believe in the alpha 2 rules they add a fighter air base/antiaircraft, and an infantry unit at malta which adds more strategy in the Mediterranean theatre. The rules also change the placement of english ships but not much changes in the broad terms. However in the alpha 2 rules the italian fleet gets a major bulk. i believe adding 2 destroyers, one transport and a sub as well as the air-force buff of a tac. bomber. this makes it virtually impossible for the limited english and french force to take the Mediterranean. But next time i play english in a normal rule set i think it would be worth it.

RE: OOB: German attack on Russia
You bring up a valid point, the english would definitely be able to take the Italian Battleship, cruiser, and transport. But with a cost, if they attack with a carrier, destroyer, cruiser and a tac. bomber, than these two forces would endure (most-likely) two rounds of combat, in which good rolls or bad rolls would determine the English fleet. So depending on what is left of the english, that is what i would base my attack with the remaining italian fleet. One more question. Where else would the Italian Air-Force be needed?

RE: OOB: German attack on Russia
This does sound like a good plan. I have one question though, how would the Italian fleet be taken on the first round. I would say that even if the british moved all their ships into the seazone containing the french fleet, there would still be a high probability of victory for the Italians.
Battleship, cruiser x2, destroyer, and two fighters making a 4,3,3,3,3,2.
vs.
Cruiser x3, Destroyer, Carrier, fighter, tac. Bomber. making a 4,3,3,3,3,2,2These odds are definitely against the Italians. However. The English and french can not attack the fleet and are there for useless in the Mediterranean seeing as if the english attacked the would loose a cruiser and destroyer, and the french wouldn’t even dream of attacking. So strategically, the Italians may not have the Med. sea. but if they have protected transports, and cairo the plan will work to the same effect giving an duel axis front on russia which can be potent seeing as the caucuses are almost always unprotected. This is usually just to divert much needed forces off the german front. or if neglected than a push into Stalingrad.

RE: Facilities
It usually depends on the shape of the Italian fleet, usually they will have minimal ships left seeing as the english and french combined fleets can put up a great fight (good rolls can even give them the battle which depends on what the italian air force is committed too. So usually first turn I’ll move my US ships too Gibraltar, Than next turn ill drop on Libya, or the French colonies, and move my US ships into destroy the Italian fleet with extra fighters from Gibraltar. This will enable me too take egypt three turns after US comes in because of the tanks/mech. infantry. Depending on the garrison, i may just bombard with my fleet and air support on egypt opposed to wiping out the italian fleet.

RE: Is there anyone building ICs in the game?
I recently played my first alpha 2 game, and it did at much needed balance too the game buy lessening of the American war time economy. Also with the addition of infantry and fodder to the german war machine. Anyways, in a regular A&A Europe 1940, if the axis don’t have the game won on turn six is practically impossible. This is because on turn seven, even an incompetent USA player will have enough amassed force to destroy a province and gain a foothold in europe which is the end. The only chance Germany would have is if they control russia and have all their forces in france and central europe.

RE: Facilities
Yea thats might be worth trying, only problem being when i play USA, i usually land on africa and retake cairo, which leaves the axis with only 7 plausible major cites to capture.

RE: Facilities
Yea, by this statement i mean Air/Naval bases and also minor/major industrial complexes. However there has already been a thread on factories, this mostly pertains to Air/Naval bases.

Facilities
I have just finished my fifth game of Axis and Allies 1940 Europe, (the fifth one being my first game using the alpha 2 rule set). Anyways i was wondering if any one was building facilities in Axis and Allies. Any input would be appreciated.

RE: How do you keep your pieces organized?
The only problem with ziplock bags is that they don’t look nice

RE: Mech. Infantry
I would say yes. I believe in the rule book it states that parings may occur in any stage of a turn. For example, if i have a tank and a mech. infantry blitzing into a enemy territory with a tank, that would be considered combat movement. Than in the combat stage one could pair the tank with a tactical Bomber. Both movements being legal in my opinion and experience but i would check out the pairing section of your rule book to affirm this.

RE: How do you keep your pieces organized?
Yup, its all a matter of how hard you want to look. For me i just checked out the local office supplies and hobby stores until i found a set of boxes that worked fine

RE: How do you keep your pieces organized?
i found these boxes in the back of an office max, they were perfect from the moment i saw them, they are also made in the UK. GO ENGLAND.

RE: Is there anyone building ICs in the game?
Yea, America can pretty much do anything it wants, with its 65 ipc income and all.

RE: Mech. Infantry
Thank you very much, me and my group have always played the opposite way.

RE: Ruling Gi amphib assault on Normandy
If they can load forces up and drop them off in a sea zone within their range that isnt enemy occupied than of course.

Mech. Infantry
This is just a quick question. Say you have a tank and two Mech. Infantry in a single zone, can both Mech. infantry blitz with the tank or only one? Input would be much appreciated.
