    • RE: What's the worst luck you've had in trying to take a territory?

      @befbert:

      50 bombers, 40 BB bombardments, 1 infantry vs 1 Bomber.

      I lost.

      After that in the same AA50 game I had 4 fighters vs 1 unescorted transport and lost.

      That’s such awful luck its not even possible according to the rulebook!

      According to the rulebook its really not possible :
      1. more than one BB bombardment with only one inf
      2. lose against one unescorted transport

      Psssst, your sarcasm detector is broken.  Note, in the second quote it even mentions that it is not possible.

    • RE: Philadelphia, PA

      I am right around Allentown PA and wouldn’t mind a once in a while drive to Philly to play.

      Thanks for the timely bump.  This is exactly what I was looking for in my thread.

    • RE: What is in your "comfort zone" when it comes to odds?

      Typically it comes down to payout if I can pull it off.  If I see a roughly 33% or better odds at getting a capital and losing it does not completely nerf me (somewhat of an expendable force), I will try for it.  Nothing is better then watching those bombers taken off as early casualties when the battle is still in doubt!

      Anything around 60% I feel comfortable with.  Mutual annihilation is good enough for me most times…

      Through the course of 3 separate engagements, I lost the entire Japanese fleet to the British off India (he did have a carrier and 2 planes though).  The mighty Italians finally took it out for me.

    • Bigger map options?

      I love this game and play it weekly, but would love to see a larger scaled version of this map so pieces actually fit on it comfortably (ideally large enough to have A&A minis used… especially the War at Sea minis).  What options are out there?  Is there a high resolution downloadable map of this that I can take to a printer and have it made?  Is there an aftermarket map already on sale out there?  Does anyone have the ability to do this for me and I need to contact them outside of this forum for copyright reasons?

      The only option I really have is to take digital pictures of the map and have the images printed and a collage done to make it bigger.  Alternately I guess I could take the pictures and digitally join them and then take them to a printer to have the larger map printed.

    • RE: After Action Reports

      @TG:

      Congratulations, Emr.  Even with your post you’ve made it on the Axis leaderboard.  Many people, including myself, haven’t cracked that one yet.

      A single question:

      How did you make it to Caucuses in three turns?  Even at it’s short, through Burma-India-Persia, you had to at least blitz through two territories in one turn.  That’s quite an incredible drive.

      I don’t think this is the right thread to get into it, but:
      UK Built a complex in India on turn 1.  I took that round 2 (did I mention UK had ultra cold dice?).  Italy!? took Trans Jordan 1st round, UK failed to retake it (how he cursed his dice!) and Italy opened the hole in Persia round 2 for Japan to blitz through into the Caucuses in round 3.

      (My first post here)

      Title:  It’s still just a dice game, 1941
      Date:  10/10/08
      Special Rules:  Allowed Tech development
      Victor:  Axis…Allies?  Depends! (game called due to time)
      Game Length:  4 rounds
      Bias:  Axis had the higher skill
      Description:  Japan (played by me) rushed to 34 IPCs by end of round 2, end of round 3 it held the Caucuses at 44 IPC.  America began to threaten Japan at the end of Round 2 with a Pacific navy.  Germany, played by a complete novice was a non entity.  Italy was the swing state needed to hold Axis in Europe.  UK was completely out of the war with ultra cold dice… until the end.  Russia did what Russia does.
      Observations/Recommendations:  As my title suggests, this game to the core is too reliant on dice for me.  The game was called an Axis victory and we allowed the Allies to do Hail Marys one last time.  Japan fell due to a complete whiff of my main fleet in the home waters and the subsequent landing of 3 infantry and a tank took on my 3 infantry and tank (granted I could have had more in Japan but my fleet really should have never gone down to the American).  I was just the first, Russia fell to Germany in Round 4, but then Germany fell to the UK in an even more disproportionate battle.  My recommendation is an old one from me, I wish there was an official variant that relied less on dice.
