      Brad Meltzer’s show Decoded on the History Channel had an episode devoted to this topic. Its a good episode, if any of you get a chance watch it.

      @bennyboyg:

      I was also at Gencon, and literally just got back home. The new game is fantastic, I was able to play both Global and Europe versions. I’m not sure if I saw you there, but I was the one playing as the Soviets during the liberation of Scotland.

      You were there on Saturday, right in front of the HQ table?  Larry and I watched that game for a while, off and on.  It was interesting.

      I played Global on Thursday morning around 10, and that was when it happened. I asked Larry if he had ever seen that before, and he said he hadn’t, so I was pretty proud of myself haha. I also awkwardly asked if I could take a picture with him too, which I was super pumped about.

      Bennyborg,
      Where where you placing the transports that you used to liberate Scotland?  Up north in sz 127?

      Krieghund,
      Sounds like Larry was into some game play.  Did you get “dirty” too?

      Yeah, it was out of range of the German air units and it let me reach Scotland in one turn with the naval base and all.

      Your reading to far into it. Just US,BRITIAN,and Russia against a well fortified GERMANY.Bridges must be taken to speed advance before Germany can blow them. Allies must hold supply lines,Germany can sabatoge and counter attack. Simple and fun.

      My suggestion to the downtime while another player is doing their turn is beer.  In the group I play with, the players who are not involved chill out with a couple of brewskies and some light-hearted conversation.  Just don’t let the alcohol sway your tactical decisions too much.

      and Anzac has some fighters right? If so, you will need fighters to defend the bomber

      yah, and it would be easy enough to bring in some infantry and perhaps an AA gun as well.

      @Emperor_Taiki:

      I know what you saying about ports and the overpowerness of air vs naval, but in AAP40 their are a lot of  places for the navies to hide from aircraft, it accauly feals kinda like the real war.

      Most of those hiding places include an island AB. There will be islands in the Med, and you have Iceland but Larry already said no Azores. So unless there is an island in the Baltic or a special rule for scrambling near straights hiding places will be limited. Maybe there will be a rule that you can scramble from a capital in the global game.

      @Brain:

      @questioneer:

      No, Larry confirmed it will come with the Europe game- NOs Tech and all in June 2010.

      Where can we get that confirmation.

      I think that Questioneer is referring to comments made by Larry on his site.

      I will confirm it as being the plan last I talked with him.  Now that doesn’t mean that WotC won’t screw it up by doing something else, but even that doesn’t seem likely. :roll:

      I beginnig to believe they can screw anything up.

      Will the UK have enuff forces to reinforce France on the 1st turn if Germany attacks the SU first?

      LH
      When you look at the English Channel and contemplate an attack on this island nation, you will see exactly what the Germans saw… a totally depleted British land force. The only thing that stands between you and capturing London is the RAF

      I agree I don’t like retreating either. In the subs case it should only be allowed to submerge when its defending. The attacker has the retreat option only, so that is what it should be for all pieces. That way you are only moving on your turn.
      Your are correct about the mechanized infantry being a tech advance. I have played too many versions and sometimes get confused on which rule goes with which version.

      yah, so planes should be able to target other planes, tanks and artillery becasue thats what they were devistating against.

      If i was defending against only infantry I would rather have the machineguns and autocannons of the aircraft given to my infantry rather than have them used on the planes. Why would u not do this?

      and if aa42 were aa50-where japan does often get pretty large, then that might not be such a big issue…but '42 is supposedly to be more like AAR, where japan wasn’t exactly godzilla running amuck…

      Answers.

      One they are very different games. They are both smaller scale battles but for the most part all the tank units and infantry and artillery work the same in Memoir while you can have six different units and no two would have the same ability in minis. Any similarities is strictly on the surface.

      Memoir '44 is better as you get everything you need to play a lot of scenarios just buying the main game. You need a lot more units to get the same variety from minis as from Memoir and it WILL cost more you don’t have to chase rares and the guy who spent the most doesn’t have an advantage over the cash strapped. They have never ‘rewritten’ the rulebook or made earlier sets obsolete as they add expansions and you don’t need several pages of FAQ sheets to keep track of unit interactions.

      Minis is better as you can have much more detailed battles and more mix of units and not just recreate battles but very small parts of battles and some of the pieces are pretty decent models and those Memoir pieces are pretty generic. The variety of units touches on a lot more aspects of combat.

      Each has their advantages and disadvantages.  :-)

      Oh and one last thing – Go Buckeyes.
