      I redid the move.  The only thing that ended up different is that there are 4 chinese in yunnan instead of 5 (result of the first time I did it).  I didn’t see my bid pieces up there but I am not too concerned about it since this is more of a learning the process for me.  Don’t really care if I win.  In fact, I don’t expect too cause I think the game is too unbalanced to the Axis.  It takes good dice and some axis mistakes for the allies to be able to win.

      Yup, Russia is already in a bad spot in this game.  No sense in making it MORE impossible to survive with Russia.

      I kind of like this idea.

      A lone transport can defend on 1@1 for 1 round then retreat.  (Eliminates the 1 fighter taking out a lone transport with no risk)
      A group of transports is the same thing, 1@1 for 1 round then retreat.  The attackers can only kill as many transports as they get hits.

      Ex.  2 fighters, 2 tacs attack 5 transports.  Attackers roll 2@3 get 1 hit, roll 2@4 and get 2 hits.  The transports roll 1@1 and get 1 hit.
                  Attackers lose 1 fighter.  Defenders lose 3 transports and retreat the other 2.

      I think with this formula it makes it so they are not a powerful defensive unit.  It also makes it so there is a bit of risk to it (the dice have to get rolled).  Lastly, it makes the attacker have to maybe forfeit an attack somewhere else or have a few more weaker attacks in order to take out the transports.

      I think all the points have been really good on this thread.

      scramble orders.  Have a carrier, cruiser, 2 fighters, 1 tac, 1 strat (Taranto). Don’t know how to do this the right way.  I assume I should make all my combat moves and save, then send to you?

      Oh well, what can I do but cry and whine a little bit :-D  Done with russia’s move.  What do I do now?  Do I finish the move entirely so that it is Japan’s turn, then save and post it on here?

      Sorry man, got home late.  I have never played with a bid before so we can just go with 10.  Art in anglo egyptian sudan and 2 inf in London.  Am I supposed to see something with that test JPG besides the black box saying “testing file download”?

      Seldom agrees about defender choosing casuality.

      I just don’t see what any other options would be that didn’t provide the same type of result in a different manner.  If the person rolling the dice chooses then obviously things like infantry and subs would be the last in the battle.  So the end of the dice rolls are looking for 1’s and 2’s to try to get hits and finish off the battle instead of the 3’s and 4’s.

      Could be a whole different thread, but I don’t see any way that it would make the game better to change who picks casualties.

      What a GREAT thread!!!

      I agree with both sides to a certain extent.

      I personally have never liked that transports don’t defend.  Maybe cause at least once per game I leave some unescorted transports and fail to see the ONE unit that can get there to wipe them all out with no consequence.

      I also think that if they all defended a 1, it could get a little lopsided.  That is one thing that I did not like about revised.  Like it has been mentioned many times the attacking navy had very little capital ships and a bunch of TT’s to take the hits.

      Has anyone even tried to play the game with the old transport rules?  For the most part I think it would be pretty easy to tell if it skews the game so badly that it is not fun for one side.  I bet you wouldn’t even have to finish one game in order to tell.

      I like the idea by BJCard of them being able to retreat after taking a round of fire, if they are unescorted, and taking one round of fire after all other warships/airforce have been eliminated.  That would effectively take away the one bomber that could get to 5 TT’s and wiping them out without taking any fire.  You could only lose 1 at the most with that attack.

      My reason of disagreement: the risk of unbalancing the game in favor of Allies.

      I think it is pretty clear with all the bids going on for the allies that it already favors the axis.  Lots of people have talked about trying to keep it as historical as possible.  If thats the case, wouldn’t you want the Allies to be favored since we won the war?

      When the axis are able to even out the economic battle then it is impossible for the allies.

      EX.  US inf and art to attack in Europe.  7 ipcs, TT to get them there 7 ipcs.  However many ships to protect the transport, lets just say 1 DD for the sake of argument, 8 ipcs.  22ipcs total and 2 turns.

      Germany to defend that attack evenly.  2 inf.  6 ipcs.  1 turn.

      Might make it so that people actually want to be the allies instead of taking a bid in order to HAVE to play the allies.

      I agree.  I actually try to use as much Italy forces as possible to shore up France and/or W Germany.  After Rome is covered of course.

      Kind of off the subject of transports but but in the spirit of unit selection in battle.  My buddy and I were talking about and addition that could be cool.  When it comes to air force, have there be a way that they could choose the ships they want to attack in a navy or units in a land battle at the cost of a round of firing.  Turn 1 they fire at all tanks or a carrier/battleship or destroyers (to save some subs).  Turn 2 of attack they sit out.  Didn’t think too much on it.  There would be obvious ways that rule could get abused though.  Still thought it seemed kind of cool.

      Is that dumb? Any ideas on how to make it work fairly.  Got to balance it where it benefits and hurts the air force to be able to be selective in a battle.
